Best of luck Brendan and thanks for the trebles

914

If I’m being magnanimous, Brendan made no secret of the fact that he wanted to return to the English Premier League.  When he was here, he won everything available to him domestically and proved that you can please all of the people all of the time.  We want managers to be ambitious, honest and successful and that’s what we got.

It rankles that his timing was so poor, a day before we visit Tynecastle on league duty and five days before we visit Easter Road in the Cup.  Brendan saw little compensation in Moussa Dembele’s success here, or ambition, when he engineered his exit at a bad time for the manager, the same is true now.  Celtic knew nothing of this before yesterday and have a major job on their hands to ensure the quest for the treble treble remains on course.

Neil Lennon is likely to be announced as interim manager.  We are fortunate to have as an experienced hand available.  If anyone knows how to take a Celtic team to Edinburgh, it’s Neil.  Plans for next season will continue in the background, but Neil will be asked to deliver the treble and nothing will be allowed to distract him or the players from that objective.

I have heard from a few CQN’ers who are surprised today, but we should know better.  This is football, managers and players are highly paid professionals, all the badge thumping in the world does not change that.  Exceptions are rare.

Best of luck to you, Brendan, and thanks for the trebles.  You could have held out for better than Leicester, but there’s every chance you’ll keep them in the division for many years.

I am pretty sure Lennon left after 4 years at the end of a season so I dont know how you get the comparisson.

  2. It’s like me giving up half way through a tour and disappointing people.

    Rod Stewart.

    I think he get’s it!!

  3. Sad BR is going/gone. I loved him as our manager. Poor timing to say the least. 8 in a row is in serious jeopardy. The team is very much in BR’s image and likeness. I would be surprised if the discipline in play will be adhered to without him. That will cost us a number of points and the players will not feel the responsibility.

I lost some confidence in him just prior to Aek at at CP. His comments were much too self indulgent at a crucial moment, before our biggest game of the season, again taking responsibility away from players to deliver.

I’ll be amazed if we get someone as good and as loved.

  4. Lenny will Galvanise the team and lead us to 8IAR

Thanks Brendan for the trophys but don’t let the door hit yer arse Oan the way oot.

A terrible way for an employee to act. Shows you more about the charcter of the person.

    Sorry but thats horse shit.

  6. Didn’t NFL allegedly quit Celtic after telling PL or DD “You sell all my best players and replace them with crap” or something along those lines!

  7. Disgusted at the timing of Brendan leaving, shows a real lack of integrity.I don’t claim to have any knowledge of what went on behind the scenes but I would say some of the recent signings were made on the premise he was off at the end of the season or he could have vetoed them.He gave us one of the worst results in our history(Lincoln Red Imps) yet won 7 out of 7 trophies. His first season was exhilarating but last season some of the football was dire, yet he had plenty of credit left in the bank and it looked as if we are now beginning to play like we did in that first season. He couldn’t make Celtic Park intimidating for top European teams to visit and I could never understand what we were supposed to learn from being stuffed 7-0,7-1and 5-0,he never learned playing the same style of football so what were the players supposed to learn.Lennon would not be my choice but under the cicumstances understandable.Time to put down a marker and what better place to do it than Tynecastle

Wonder if he’ll swoop for Hooper in the summer

    Rationally,

BR has cost Celtic zero over his tenure, in fact £6M makes the club a profit and pays for a similar class of manager if the Plc want to replace like for like.

Meanwhile the Plc are creaming themselves and pissing themselves laughing at stupid supporter who blurt shite about not being supporters of the board but can’t see them in any way responsible for BR walking away from a Plc who reneged on every promise of support that lured him here.

    RockTree….,

True, took bombs and bullets but still managed to see out his contract.

    =================================================================

Spot on,nor did he get half the sympathy that Steve Clarke got.

  12. LazyDynamite – Red Rose Speedway – a Paul McC fan? Yeah now that guy has real talent – a songwriting genius.

  13. ‘Maybe’just maybe in time I will look back on Brendan’s reign with happyness.

However when you get betrayed like this it is very hard to dwell on the good times.

A bit like in my own personal situation [horrible divorce-ending to marraige 4 years ago after many happy years]….I only recall the bitterness and betrayal at the end NEVER the good years.

Brendan Rodgers has just completely f****d his legacy at Celtic no matter how this season ends up.

I don’t really care about the circumstances at the moment. No matter how badly he may or may not have been treated by the board and PL…His actions today will define him.

I hope he rots in premier league mediocrisy before ending up a manager at a shitty shower like ‘Millwall’in 2-3 seasons time

  14. Still in shock. I dismissed the whole Leicester thing as complete tosh, given they are a fkn diddy team and we are on the verge of a treble treble with a few quid in the bank for the summer. I never in a million years thought this random Tuesday was going to turnout so painful for me. I’m actually at a loss as to who we should bring in, ok Lenny till the season’s end sounds ok. But long term he has been here before and imho has had his turn. Why is it always such hard work being a Celtic fan? Even during the good times there always seems to be a fly in the ointment. Still baffled as to why he would leave Celtic for such mediocrity not a top club.

Canamalar- I look forward to hearing Brendan’s reasons for leaving…..oops he will have signed a confidentiality clause for his 30 pieces of silver..

Or will he break trend and not sign a clause and let us all know what has changed his mind in a dramatic fashion, and for him not to fulfil his contractural obligations.

    D. :)

  16. What about young Bayo? Recommended by Kolo, convinced to join the club by Kolo only for Kolo to feck off a couple of weeks later. So we are now left with a project that no one will know hee haw about. Summer loan deal beckons me thinks. Can’t see Leicester wanting him :-)

    Aye football is indeed cruel

  17. CANAMALAR

Your logic works if BR had walked in the summer or at Christmas. If he had i’d have understood/supported him. Leaving now is all about limelight (for him) and money. The way he left undermined any argument that might reasonably portray BR as decent.

  18. Why didn’t he go the same thing to Liverpool after he’d had all those signings forced on him by the infamous transfer committee?

  19. onenightinlisbon on

Read back through the previous pages on here and have to commend you all for taking this so well. I cannot for the life of me get to grips with him leaving to go to Leicester despite them being the 8 richest team in England or whatever they are. They have achieved their dream in winning the Premiership and the best he can hope for is mid table mediocrity with a group of players who would sell their granny to get on. In the words of Sir David we have been “duped”. Brandan spoke of the best job in the world but in his head he was playing us like a fiddle and we lapped it up. We deserve to know the truth but I’m sure never will. I hope the good supporters of Leicester are better treated than those of Mr Rodgers “favourite team”….

There’s always two sides to every divorce (with, perhaps the exception of lazydynamite :))) but I think there’s a lot of us out there who’ll take a bit of persuading that he’s not bullish!tting us again

  21. CELTIC40ME

    Peter Lawwell’s fault mate.

Said he was going to Leicester, so he told him to give the most massive GIRFUY to the stupid Celtic Support that adulated him, and chanted his name every single week since day one in 2016.

  22. Brendan Rodgers was my no1 choice after Ronny (Steve Clarke 2nd choice) nearly 3 years ago and I considered myself to be his no1 fan.

Even though our CEO is the main contributor to this omnishambles im disappointed in Brendans timing and choice of club.

He will no longer mean nothing to me and couldn’t care how he does.

Neil Lennon will be as good a short term replacement their is, id be fully behind that appointment, but now, no John Kennedy for 2 games nonsense.

Lenny won 3 titles as Celtic manager but in my mind it was 4.

Under Strachan, Lenny was brought in and we won our last 7 or 8 games to win the title.

I asked a player at the time the significance of the appointment and in his opinion their was no way we would have won that title, his passion and will to win galvanized the place, he CAN do it again.

As for Steve Clark looks like a non runner , even in the summer as he would be appointed now if that was happening.

  23. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Lazy Dynamite

He took over from Mowbery March 09/10 season and was kept on until 13/14 on a rolling contract basis, the contract did not expire as he did not have a fixed term contract. He resigned going into season 14/15, his Barca beating team in 12/13 were carpetbagged after making the club a turnover of over £90M. He was not impressed that the Plc did not support his vision for the team and reneged on promises to back his judgement on team building, instead continuing to sell his best players without consulting him.

  24. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Why only £6m compensation?

To buy yourself out of a £300k pcm contract with 28 months to run would cost £8.4m, no?

    Hail hail
