Better have Dresden expose some weaknesses

851

Technically we’re not preseason anymore, but today’s friendly away to Dynamo Dresden is an important step.  There are six weeks before the end of August, with five Champions League qualifier match days in that time.

Tuesday’s gentle introduction to competitive challenges was probably a good place to start for Celtic, this week’s run-out at Murrayfield will allow more of the squad to get some miles under their belt, but you can be sure we will meet our match at some point in the next six weeks.  It would be better for all that Dresden expose as many weaknesses as possible (at the time of writing that doesn’t look likely).

As usual, the mantra for these occasions is: no injuries.

Legia Warsaw are on league duty this evening. I hope we have someone watching.

    Bobby Murdoch at 19.58.

I ‘m sorry if I annoyed you with my earlier post about Shaun.

I wasn’t making excuses for him, I read an article last year where he said he wouldn’t play if he didn’t feel fully fit but admitted in the article, that was the wrong way to deal with it.

I apologise for not even having a link for it but I’m sure it was on the internet..

I like Shaun as a player but I feel his issues were the way he thought.

I was at a lunch at Celtic Park around September 2010, Johann Mjallby was at our table. I asked him if he expected Shaun to appear more often for us. Johann replied ‘ he was in a good place’. I may have been wrong but it appeared to me Johann was saying Shaun’s heid hadn’t been in the right place.

I’m not defending him just trying to work out why he was out so often.

Its annoying that the potential Henke & Lubo saw in Shaun was never on the pitch as often as it should have been. ,

Mmm..just reading some quotes on twitter re the hun march today.

What do you get if you cross a hyena with an Oxo cube?

  5. Checked some of my fav twitter feeds tonight and sad to see the suggestion that the sterling work of auldheid / res12 is fizzling out. The club’s apathy and stubborn silence on RFC/SFA/TRFC cartel which has corrupted the game has rocked my faith in our great club . When good men do nothing……

  6. We shouldn’t have any problems in the return game on Tuesday. However the challenges ahead will be greater. We should start to see some consistency to our play / line-up especially in the spine of the team. Obviously Efe / VVD are central, likely joined by Lustig & Izzy at full back. Midfield from Matthews, Johansen, Biton, Henderson with back up in Mulgrew, McGregor, Twardzik (Use him in his best left mid position) Up front is the big problem we need more pace / movement and an alternative plan from Commons playing the floating role, Griffiths could also do this (Wasted on the wing) – Pukki working hard, intelligent but needs a partner – Stokes doesn’t strike fear into me far less any opponent.

McGeough isn’t getting near a central role to show if he can cut it or not, Watt apparently niggling injuries – needs a run of 10-15 game. Ditto with Forrest always seems to be injured. We are good enough to get into the group stages, but way short of doing any better than the abysmal showing we watched last season.

I was and am still hoping for a renewed overall team effort, hard working, never say die spirit, high tempo pressing for 90 mins but with some real threat in the attack. A lot of work to do in 6 weeks but I expect the experiments are nearly over.

  8. Maybe we should see what Auldheid has to say before we start putting the boot into the club again .

  9. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Weefra & Bobby Murdoch, I won’t mention that player’s name again.

Kikckinthenakas, it was an enjoyable game at K Park today. No bad tackles or nastiness towards our players.

Attajic must have done something wrong as he should be with the first team. Irvine Jackson will probably be let go or sent on loan again.

Marcus Fraser will hopefully get another chance.

The younger players who came on as subs especially Joe Thompson upped our tempo when they came on. He reminded me a bit of Broonie but with more game intelligence. The EKFC trialists had tired but the run and cut back to Thompson at his goal was good to see.

McCabe in goal is some size and was very vocal with his defence. The goal and the two crosses he missed were unfortunate but hopefully he learns from them.

From the players’ shouts at our trialist at right back, his name was Hernan and is either Spanish or South American.

McMullan took his goal very well.

I’m used to my wife saying that to me about me being wrong.

My son and I were at the developement squad game today. We have some good young players but Joe Thompson, when he came on, stuck out the most. Always looking for the ball, looks a box to box player and as I posted earlier, looked like Broonie plus took his goal very well.

The announcer at the game said over the tannoy, the winning team would be presented with the John Hartson Memorial Trophy then a few minutes later corrected himself by saying it should been the foundation not memorial trophy.
