Technically we’re not preseason anymore, but today’s friendly away to Dynamo Dresden is an important step. There are six weeks before the end of August, with five Champions League qualifier match days in that time.
Tuesday’s gentle introduction to competitive challenges was probably a good place to start for Celtic, this week’s run-out at Murrayfield will allow more of the squad to get some miles under their belt, but you can be sure we will meet our match at some point in the next six weeks. It would be better for all that Dresden expose as many weaknesses as possible (at the time of writing that doesn’t look likely).
As usual, the mantra for these occasions is: no injuries.
Legia Warsaw are on league duty this evening. I hope we have someone watching.

Does anyone know of the collection points for the Gaza Aid convoy from Belfast ?
Missus seen it on Facebook and now can’t find it
I don’t have Facebook
Thanks
Big Swee
Haymarket mate. Think trains will be very busy though (are Scotrail putting more on ?) especially coming home.
Think I’ll be driving through an getting the train from Ingliston park (free) and ride.
There’s a programme on Alba @ 8pm about Football. It might be about us in particular. Maybe one of our Gaelic speakers could tell us if this is so. If it’s anything like the recent tribute to Jock Stein, it will be well worth watching.
Cliftonville,
Let’s hope that any aid doesn’t end up in the hands of Hamas terrorists. May it reach those innocents who need it.

As you have said Park & Ride looks the best bet, have been told that the Stop for Murryfied is almost at the East Stand. Have you used the P&R before, seems to be located on the service road for the Airport.

I’ve watched all the friendlies except Dukla.
Right now we are OK at the back with our best 4, and have 2 good keepers. We can cover injuries on the right, Mulgrew can cover centre or LB, but more than one injury to centre or LB we don’t really have good enough cover.
Centre mid Biton and Johansen are the first picks, Kayal is a slightly poorer cover with less attacking nous or drive. Henderson looks good but needs a year more muscle and pace… if he continues to develop he could come through.
Left Boerrigter is a man down whilst Mcgregor when over there is decent but doesn’t seem to have much understanding with Izzy (yet). Again you hope that physically he can come on a bit more.
On the right McGeouch is just not doing it for me. Tidy but lacks pace and drive. Might we see Matthews out there if Lustig is RB?
Up front Pukki looks OK. Scored a few and has started to hold the ball and set others up. Griffiths has played very wide right and looked OK, maybe been a bit unlucky sometimes with his last ball. Stokes I have not seen do much. Holmbert Fridjohnsen looked poor today. And just where the hell is Tony Watt – Some say he is a player who seems better and better the less he plays but i watched highlights of all his Lierse games and he looked damn good? I hope it’s a knock rather than a temperamental issue because we aren’t so great up front we can do without.
Then there is Commons. He is vital, too vital.
Right now.. I think the back 4 and GK are CL players, Johansen is, maybe Biton, and Commons, maybe Pukki could be decent with others about him. The rest are not I don’t think. Scoring goals will be our problem if we make it to the CL.

It’s about how fitba became so popular after the war
And how Matt Busby built a great and lost them in the plane crash

Ps
I canny speak Gaelic,I just pressed the info button ;))))
Watched game on TV.
Looked like a decent workout, although I would be very surprised if we ever saw either the first or second half 11s ever play together as a starting 11 in a competitive game.
The squad looks a bit thin at the moment, and whilst I would like to see cover at CB and a top drawer striker, I am pleased that new manager is assessing his options – by now Barnes & Mowbray had blown their budgets without seeing a competitive game.
I think we are very strong at the back – our keeper plus back four could easily hold places at mid level EPL teams.
Midfield is ok, if we can get our best players on park
Attacking midfielders and forwards are our weak point
– Commons is a decent club player, who should be ok in CL qualifiers, but may struggle if we get to group stages
-Forrest is good enough to play in CL groups, but, injury has hindered progress, and it may be his best position is impact sub
– Watt has all the assets to be a top striker, and emerge as our No1 striker, but, can he hook it all up ?
– The rest, IMHO are all squad fillers, who occasionally show promise, but don’t do so consistently, and with possible exceptions of Griffiths, I would “asset manage” them
I hope and pray that my tax money does not end up in the arms of the Israeli Government via a cheap arms deal between governments
Can’t understand why we refuse to sign young Stevie May from St Johnstone. Is there history there does any one know?
KINGLuBO
Malarkey,
Your thoughts are very similar to mine.
Goals ( or lack of ) will be our challenge in trying to reach CL group.
We also look a wee bit susceptible to counter attacks
If Tony Watt is fit then I would love to see him against the Iceland pub team.
Doc/Bada
Cheers for that, Lhads!
That’s 40 minutes of my life I’ll never get back!!

No I haven’t used the tram as yet. Looking at the map though the Ingliston park and ride is just along from the Airport as you mentioned.
KingLubo,
Do you think Stevie May is any better than what we have?
I don’t think we need a striker to score 20 / 25 goals in SPFL – we already have that in Stokes or Griffiths.
What we need is a guy to score 1 or 2 in CL qualifiers, and same in group stages.
When Brian Clough bought Trevor Francis he surprised everyone by saying he only wanted 3 or 4 goals from him.
Given the price tag, a then transfer record, most folk were surprised & thought it was a Clough wind up but when he scored the winner in Euro Cup Final, the comment made sense
BeatBhoy, I blame Bada Bing, the big ghuy did it and ran away:-)
Sorry mhate, I added two and two and came up with five!

Thanks, mate. That makes up a bit for having had to listen to Paul Kane’s ‘expert’ views on buying over a football club, though, to be fair, he seems to be backing it up with his own money, unlike some people we could mention!
Liked the link made between the Zombie relegation myth and North Korea’s World Cup triumph.
BognorBhoy, thanks, the linked worked fine, better than mine anyway:-)
He really did get tore in too!

Please don’t ever address me directly again I have no desire to enter into communications with you
This is my first and only reply
Stevie May. No thanks. Mediocre.
Evening Kojo.
It would be terrific to see Beram rediscover his past abilities but I fear that we shan’t see them anymore, the irony is that his countryman may be the man to show better potential. Biton looks good.
Well said cliftonville, I share the exact same sentiments.

No problem Cliftonville. Good luck against Deprechen.
Expect some of your points to be challenged or agreed with though, that is the nature of a debating forum.
Take care.
Doc
No bother. Well-intentioned, as always.
But see when they started talking about the day Judas signed for the club who were soon to die. . . . . . Grrrrrr, as some posters often say!!
Biton has to start in central midfield before Mulgrew for me .
bognorbhoy
Thanks buddy, brilliant. :-)

what time in the link for cowan slaggin off super sally ?
BeatBhoy, now I just feel guilt making you listen to the talk about Le petite merde!
Bhoys,
Murrayfield – airport tram, park and ride
The park and ride, is on the road into Edinburgh Airport.
Come off slip road to airport, at roundabout, again head towards airport, about 75 yards down the road, a set of lights, you are turning right, and right into the large park and ride.
TBJ, seats are in East 13
