Technically we’re not preseason anymore, but today’s friendly away to Dynamo Dresden is an important step. There are six weeks before the end of August, with five Champions League qualifier match days in that time.
Tuesday’s gentle introduction to competitive challenges was probably a good place to start for Celtic, this week’s run-out at Murrayfield will allow more of the squad to get some miles under their belt, but you can be sure we will meet our match at some point in the next six weeks. It would be better for all that Dresden expose as many weaknesses as possible (at the time of writing that doesn’t look likely).
As usual, the mantra for these occasions is: no injuries.
Legia Warsaw are on league duty this evening. I hope we have someone watching.

Would you care to explain that comment? I’m sure I am not alone in not understanding it.

Life will be unbearable for me if Legia do the unthinkable. 90 percent of my workmates are Polish. The rest are from other foreign countries.
Attempts to convert them to Celtic are going well but may flounder if we fail in Europe. We should defeat Z’s mob though.

Who are you going to dinner with? :¬)
I love the smell of OTT reaction to pre-season friendlies. I was warning against the OTT praise being given to so-called “new style” Celtic and I’ll warn against OTT complaining in the same matches.
Ronny Deila will need 2 to 3 months before players become used to our new style. There is more evolution than revolution going on. Players we praised in their last outing, we are now writing off (Twardzik e.g.). They will continue to have good and bad games; supporters and posters will continue to have knee jerk reactions.
Today, we were good for 30 minutes and pretty weak for an hour thereafter. We are still unbeaten but we can learn new ways to rant

Well done, you just save my life. My anniversary is in 2 weeks (ish) and I’d forgotten about it ! Might take her to Edinburgh on Tuesday as an early surprise.

I get you point but only just.
If KC is crocked then we are in trouble.
The issue being we are now a one man team.
Long time since we had AMcG / SM / SN all pushing for that gig.
The squad needs investment.
Using last years CL money …
Madmitch,
Calm down. It is all about fitness. Who cares about friendlies?
Bada Bing, this is it.

Hmmm…and “As usual, the mantra for these occasions is: no injuries.”
A good fitness workout but if anyone was under any delusion about our left side, any attacking intent in the second half came from Emilio and Liam Henderson, the other guy was anonymous as usual and should be moved on as soon as a buyer can be found, if one can be found.

Too many on on our youth squads think they have made it when they sign at 16 and 17.
The fact that they win things locally only re-in forces this attitude.
We as a club lose something because of it.
We are not making the most of the talent available.

The curse of the Summer 2013 “6” raises it’s head again.
DB must have been a favour to an agent somewhere.
He has made a career based on the fact that he looks like CR.
Fan dancer is the best I can offer.
Doc- sorry mate ,it was from his column in The S**,a bhoy txt it to me.HH
How did we get on at East Kilbride?
Bada, I’m sitting here listening to it, waiting for Cowan to start!!!!!!!!!!:-)

Was at the game with my bhoy. We won 5-1and played well, a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon despite the rain. Atijic scored 2, should have been more, Paul McMullen played well, as did our number 4. Paul George moaned constantly at his team mates and seemed very confident on the ball, plenty subs who also looked good and trialists at full back did well.
Good to meet Jobo again and the Battered Bunnet.

Congratulations to you both, I hope you take her somewhere special this evening so that you get to actually make it to 24 wonderful years tomorrow…:)
Keep the Faith!
Hail Hail!
Good to see that RD has a three year plan.
By all accounts today’s match should help to prepare our team for the sort of challenges (thuggery & mibbery) that they are likely to face when The Rangers (2012) eventally make their first appearance in the top flight in three year’s time.
Glasgow Fair Saturday and rain are among my earliest memories. Remember walking along the front at Ardrossan from South Beach to the Central Hotel, next to the station, with the whole extended family. Someone got us off at the wrong station and we had to walk in the pouring rain. Must have been about 1954 or 5.
Doc
Thanks for trying. I, too, listened in vein to a bit of that thing! I didn`t find the article Bada mentioned but I did come across this from Tam Cowan in his final DR column:
“For my final piece in the sports pages I was going to bow out by sooking in with Rangers, blasting anyone who ever dared to criticise the Govan club and then offering my services as the new Ibrox head of media.” He then said something like. ” But it`s already been done, eh, Jim? ”
JJ
Anthony Stokes has to score a goal or two in the qualifiers. His Euro record is dire but he has the talent to produce more. A better striker will have to be brought in if we struggle upfront against Legia and the opponents thereafter.
Big Chips
Three years? I would say it is now (the oncoming season) or never.
JJ
JJ, cheers.
Very poor performance from celtic. That’s two games I have seen them. Nothing to inspire hope yet…..
What’s the best stop to get off in Edinburgh if travelling by train to the game on Tuesday. Can never recall which is closest to the stadium?
Neganon2
Thought we played alright first half.
JJ, I was writing with literary tongue in cheek. With their finances, compared to the competition, they ought to walk it in the coming season. But if they think that they’ll be challenging Celtic next season, they are completely deluded.
Football wise i am an optimist. But I have a nagging doubt about our squad. We do require a couple of players who can offer something different.
A good forward who can hold a ball up and a crafty winger or attacking midfielder to take some of commons burden from him.
On a more positive note i think we have a really strong looking back line at present, protected by good defensive midfielders and backed by
a really top keeper.
We arent far away but we dont have many options to help change a game at present.
Big swee – Haymsrket
Capt beefheart – how many chances does Buster need before people realise he can’t do it at European level?
BSR
True.
Big swee – hay market best there’s a new tram stop outside the station which will take you directly to murrayfield too ( big new pub just opened recently across from station named platform 5 -owned by Belhaven so decent range of beers and food at decent prices ) hh
Whinge Whinge Fu#$ing Whinge
I remember now why I stopped posting on here for over a year, some need to get a grip FFS!!!
HH
Squire,
I would give him a few more chances.
Robert Tressell,
A good summary in my opinion. Creativity is needed as well as more power up front. Money is there and players still want to join Celtic so no excuses from Pl please.
I wonder what sort of allocation would Legia give Celtic were they to defeat the Irish side.
Read Cowan’s rant against McCoist. Wonder what the manager of his team thought of it….
