Better have Dresden expose some weaknesses

851

Technically we’re not preseason anymore, but today’s friendly away to Dynamo Dresden is an important step.  There are six weeks before the end of August, with five Champions League qualifier match days in that time.

Tuesday’s gentle introduction to competitive challenges was probably a good place to start for Celtic, this week’s run-out at Murrayfield will allow more of the squad to get some miles under their belt, but you can be sure we will meet our match at some point in the next six weeks.  It would be better for all that Dresden expose as many weaknesses as possible (at the time of writing that doesn’t look likely).

As usual, the mantra for these occasions is: no injuries.

Legia Warsaw are on league duty this evening. I hope we have someone watching.

  1. Good workout today for the players, we have some decent talent at the club and Ronny looks like just the chap to put them through their paces…

    Bring on the Icelanders…

Thank flip that is over, hope we never go back for a friendly.

That was a really good game, particularly in the first half ….and 22 players got a run out…..roll on Tuesday

  4. Nasty game, anything but a friendly. Proud our bhoys tried to play football to the end. Not really worried about analysing it. Just get the team home and I hope Kris is all right.

Fine for a workout ,good to see so many get a game.

Great pitch, stadium, pity that we couldn’t have had neutral officials, as the ones we had bordered on farce, especially failing to curb the German over the top enthusiasm. Hope Commons is fit.

There are some players that might need a move again in the summer, I’m sure Ronny will do some wheeling and dealing as the first pick eleven, is too familiar and a fresh face or two, with some outgoings is required.

Pass marks to the latest young Celts introduced.

Leigh looking rather fetching in his new sports bra :o)

  9. Wish we had won, if only because of that animal of a central defender who injured KC and kicked Liam H. when he was on the ground. The referee was almost as bad as the clown who sent off Liam in Austria.

Some good things, some bad. It’s worrying how often we give away possession. However, I would make allowances for the heat.

  10. sftb The Keepers comment made me smile, needed it as I was quite annoyed with both the Ref and their No.5 in particular.

  11. Mix and match team produce a mix and match display.

The current squad is a string vest there are so many holes in it.

Desperately need new blood or at least people playing positions they are comfortable with.

Youths need a shake up — too many fans on an ego trip.

Biggest thing about today’s match was the lack of leadership and drive.

Little thought for others in the team.

That was shocking, sack Peter Lawwell and why has there not been a multi million pound signing and why has there not been a bigger reduction in prices?

can anyone tell me why we are playing meaningless friendlies? That’s two injuries now! Surely John Collins should be doing more?

  13. Thanks for the running commentary guys, another good squad run out enabling the management team to see the attributes of each player.

I do think we need an enforcer in the middle of the park, Broonie if he gets smart.

The worst thing about him is the fact that he is a stand out when in comes to football intelligence and experience.

We seem to develop emotional midgets and mummy’s boys.

The lack of nous and guile is shocking.

We play meaningless friendlies to spot the “never wizzers” early.

The stiffs stood out today and hopefully RD. has their cards marked.

    Pleased/Relieved with draw.

Irrespective of ” Good experience, fitness levels, assessing players” etc. I am never sure of the economic benefits of playing a tie such as this approx.3 days before what amounts to a must win for entry to a Multi Million pound contest.

Dont think risk to key players worth it,considering they had several previous games.
