Bigger questions loom than reconstruction

1092

We now know that Craig Whyte met Neil Doncaster and Ralph Topping, directors of the SPL, in London in October 2011 and informed them of the likelihood that Rangers would go into liquidation.  Whyte’s plan, to start a Newco and have it parachuted into top flight football was only taken seriously as a result of these three having a head start on everyone else and doing some preparatory work.

Charles Green has no such plans.  If he loses Ibrox, becomes embroiled in IPO-related troubles or fails to bridge the gap between money-in and money-out, an unplanned liquidation could follow with a potentially protracted period where physical assets are moribund and playing assets and other staff are released.

The SPL and SFL would do well to consider ‘what next?’ when they hold separate meetings next week.  The century-old ways are gone, things will never be the same again.

I’m really pleased the aforementioned Charlie issued an apology for his offending comments, even if he did so under duress from the SFA.  This kind of rhetoric has taken control within football in some European countries.  Once the door is open it is hard to close it again.

Until ibrokes is flattened our work is not

    done……they are thieve’s and crook’s

    the whole lot of them…….CORRUPT.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

That really is it, in a nutshell…….. They nearly destroyed Scottish Football with their criminal greed / cheating / bigotry / hooliganism…….and ended up destroying themselves ….. onward and upward for the honest Clubs…….

  2. Anyone remember when a journalist’s job was to get a scoop before their rivals. When it was a respected profession.

Not me, I am only 43. Now though, they prefer to say I know a secret and I am not telling you like 8 year old weans, only now eight year old weans are not that immature. How embarassing that a once proud profession is now so distinctly in the grubber and been overrun by plebs.

I agree the Act in of itself is not fascist but having a centralised Police force only appointing senior officers who will do their bidding.

Demanding that all members of the new Police Authority proclaim their allegiance to the Govt in any dispute before they got appointed by the SNP minister.

Having Frank Mulholland being the public face of defending flawed SNP policy is a scandal.

SNP ridicule any dissent on their policies and attack anyone who disagrees with them, i.e. boycott the Scotsman and SoS, Baxter’s soups and J.K Rowling as they oppose independence. They will be burning books. the SNP come from a fascist background that supported Hitler is it would get rid of the English, they are showing similar tendencies now.

  4. p.s ~ uproar about the ‘p’ word being used by green, yet Scots don’t blink at thousands singing about catholic pedos, tatta munchers and fenians, why is that?

A fantastic article thanks for the link .

I am fortunate in that I can take my son to Paradise.

However, unlike the 80s/90s where I followed the team everywhere I cannot afford to do that now, Celtic Park games and a season ticket for me and the bhoy are a stretch but I am happy to cut back on other things.

I agree totally with what the ghuy was saying , he is the heartbeat of the support and if he and his mates are disenfranchised from Celtic due to cost we may very well loose our soul.

Seriously though – am I missing something?

Even if they do get shot of Green, hasn’t a huge can of worms just been opened up by Whyte – which implies that either he might own the assets or that BDO should now seize the assets to be re-disposed to the better benefit of creditors?

I suppose someone could solve it – but an awful lot palms might need to be greased?

And even if that was possible, how do you make one or two fraudulent and criminal transactions disappear by just chucking money at it?

  8. Tim Malone

It is going to be very difficult for anyone to buy sevco as the true ownership of the company is far from certain

Also they will have major problems with licensing ….or they should have

  9. stephbhoy you’re sounding like one of those unhinged lefties who gave the speeches in Georgie Sq last Saturday.

Can you tell me, for instance, who has been punished without trial?

  10. Tim Malone Will Tell on

    PFayr

Cheers – that’s my take on it – but paranioa seems to be rife that Paul Murray is going to just reappear and simultaneously all problems will disappear.

This seems far more shambolic to me than last years debacle.

  11. ntassoolla

The supporters who have had banning orders applied before the trumped up charges reach court have been punished without trial , is that a good enough answer .

  12. Stewart Gilmour running out of friends…

    Aberdeen chief Stewart Milne has

criticised St Mirren’s decision to vote

    against league reconstruction.

Ten days after rolling out the red carpet

to Charles Green the Saints board have

decided to vote against plans to create a

single league body and a new income

distribution model through a 12-12-18 set

    up.

The SPL require the backing of 11 clubs to

give the proposals their backing with St

Mirren hoping that one other club will also

vote down the plan killing off the need for

    a vote among SFL clubs.

Referring to the St Mirren decision Milne

said: “It’s very disappointing on two

counts. First of all, that they’ve changed

their minds after us going public on all

twelve clubs being in agreement and

secondly, the manner in which they’ve

    done it.

“If they were having second thoughts,

these should have been voiced at next

week’s meeting rather than through the

    media.”

Most critics of the reconstruction plan

want to see a larger top division but Milne

    explained why that’s not practical.

He added: “To introduce something like a

16 or 18 team top league at this point in

time would finish many clubs due to a

huge reduction in broadcast revenues and

erosion of sponsorship income, while the

most concerning aspect is the number of

meaningless games that would have to be

    played.”

“We’ll be creating a situation whereby the

first 22 games will be absolutely crucial

to attempt to stay in the top eight, and

post split everyone has something to play

    for.

“The top eight will be playing for the title

or three or four places in Europe, the

middle eight will be playing primarily to

be one of the four clubs to get into the

following season’s top flight, as well as

battling against going into the play-offs

and the threat of relegation. Every game

    will mean something.”

Should the new plan not go through Milne

    anticipates a bleak future adding:

“Operating a football club right now

involves massive challenges. The game is

virtually on its knees and we’ve all got

massive financial challenges as it is.

Those challenges are only going to get

greater if the vote does not get through.

“If we fail to deliver, there’s going to be a

lot of clubs across the whole of Scottish

football where the financial pressure is

just going to continue to build and build.”

  13. St.John.Doyle @20:10 Frank Mulholland was appointed because, like his predecessor, he is a pushover.

Their reward is elevation to QC, without the years of effort and hard work. They then command a QC’s rate on the various committees and enquiries over which they preside.

Mulholland knew before he took the job what it would entail and he gladly accepted.

The only person to have been brought up on a charge and not banned from Celtic Park recently is Lenny

  15. Stephbhoy – the uproar is almost entirely in the press. You’d think they were trying to deflect people’s attention or something.

  16. If u where to be arrestrd as a result of this law then acquitted at trial I am sure I would be punished at work by lack of promotion etc.

    Its all wrong

  17. Steinreignedsupreme on

Derek Johnstone – living proof that even being in a coma for 30 years should not hold you back.

  18. Ernie Lynch is right about the use of language.

There is so much hyperbole in relation to Celtic supporters’ position within Scotland. Much of it veers towards a type of victimhood – although some of the Police actions are wrong,

Scotland is a decent enough place despite what some people say here. It is mostly political dinosaurs who perpetuate the idea that our community is under the threat of ‘fascism’ from the SNP. Some of the laws are flawed. Celtic disagee with the laws. Fascist? Most of us cannot comprehend living in a fascist state. Using such language will only see us being laughed at for making such preposterous claims. Such nonsensical use of words does not challenge the poor laws properly.

Congratulations to the Celts in Moscow!

I fully agree Frank Mulholland new what he was doing but similar appointments are being made by the SNP all over Govt. and Quangos where you have to be a true believer to get up the greasy pole

  21. ntassoolla

Many of those charged are given football banning orders as part of bail conditions, to date none have been found guilty, under this new law.

I would count the banning order as a punishment before proof was established.

  22. The “temporary” banning orders meted out to supporters prior to any trial is punishment, being visited at your workplace is punishment, being stopped at airports and ferry terminals is punishment, if police Scotland were so bloody careful when dealing with drug dealers and sex offenders the country would be a safer place to live, then again its all about priorities isn’t it?

  23. FouGreenFileds the police have to lay evidence before a Sheriff and follow a set of defined procedures for a Summary order.

There is a right of appeal.

This is turned into a game of Russian roulette by the threat of cost should you lose. However, the case of McVicar v Christie suggests that such an imposition of costs is illegal under the Human Rights Act, which supersedes the football banning orders legislation.

Destroying data on Catholic hate crimes, attacking any organisation that disagrees with it, passing unjust laws against certain minority communities, having a Police force at your disposal. Does that remind you of how it started in parts of Europe

My view is the SNP are taking us down a path similar to forms of fascism they might not be there yet give them independence and who would stop them, as Paulo will tell you fascist states take many forms.
