Bigger questions loom than reconstruction

1092

We now know that Craig Whyte met Neil Doncaster and Ralph Topping, directors of the SPL, in London in October 2011 and informed them of the likelihood that Rangers would go into liquidation.  Whyte’s plan, to start a Newco and have it parachuted into top flight football was only taken seriously as a result of these three having a head start on everyone else and doing some preparatory work.

Charles Green has no such plans.  If he loses Ibrox, becomes embroiled in IPO-related troubles or fails to bridge the gap between money-in and money-out, an unplanned liquidation could follow with a potentially protracted period where physical assets are moribund and playing assets and other staff are released.

The SPL and SFL would do well to consider ‘what next?’ when they hold separate meetings next week.  The century-old ways are gone, things will never be the same again.

I’m really pleased the aforementioned Charlie issued an apology for his offending comments, even if he did so under duress from the SFA.  This kind of rhetoric has taken control within football in some European countries.  Once the door is open it is hard to close it again.

  1. Sorry St.John.Doyle but you are living in a political and social past. Scotland is no longer the place it used to be. You seem to be using Celtic supporter difficulties with the police as an excuse to salute the Labour party while attacking the SNP. Your party did very little to combat bigotry when it was most prevalent. What did Labour say or do during those long years of bigotry?

    This ‘Klan’ talk is daft.

Correct but we know its a daft idea however the end product will be it will put “them” again into the bottom tier and hurry their end :)

Why did labour not do something about the OO marches when they were in power in Westminister as well as Glasgow?

Will they do something about them IF they win the next election?

The rally on Saturday was a positive message to the Police and Government, will it make a difference, perhaps, but it is better to make our feelings known than not.

What would you do to change the minds of a government?

The speeches were what was needed, emotive, but not rabble rousing.

The most significant was from the MSP, just for the fact that he is an MSP.

I don’t think the SNP will repeal this law, but a Labour Gvnt may.

  7. Moonbeams I used to come across far more enthusiasm for the Euro from people in the UK and Sweden who have never been in it than I ever did from people who are in it.

The landlord of my local pub, an Irishman, was besides himself with worry the other night about where he could safely deposit his money without the Germans snaffling it or the British taxing it.

I told him an independent Scotland would fit the bill. He simply shook his head and walked off.

Baroso the president of Europe and many EU lawyers have stated that an independent Scotland would have to apply for Europe.

The 2 major clearing banks in Scotland went tits up if it was not for the big bad UK stepping in we would have been in a worse state than Cyprus it was Scottish institutions that wreaked the UK economy the SNP govt run with no reserves how would they have dealt with Scottish banks going under with all our money we would be in a line of creditors longer than Ibrox that would stretch to Dover

Salmond is desperate for criminal Law not to be subjected to outside scrutiny. He has support in Edinburgh for that one. Scottish criminal lawyers are a fairly parochial lot and it’s time they were brought up to date.

  13. Sipsini, the chap you refer to was LionRoars. Had a few beers with him now and again, great company.

Hopefully the next time we meet up we can have a beer and a blether.

Had a beer with TBJ last Friday in Bannockburn, good wee night with Moonbeams and Cowiebhoy too.

  16. prestonpans bhoys –

    Thanks for the confirmation.

To some extent given that it’s surely certain that we’re always going to be in the top 8 then the proposal will hardly have any effect on Celtic. But the thought of then playing 11 teams home and away and then playing the top 7 all home and away again is one of the main positives. Whether the plan is accepted or whether the status quo remains it should be August 2015 at the earliest before “The Rangers” reach the league that we are in. With emphasis on ‘at the earliest’.

I was over in Belfast on the Wee Oscar bike ride and one of the conversations I had in The Crown Pub led me to believe that Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland very seldom meet.As well as having their own schools, they also have their own living areas, taxis, pubs, shops and anything else you care to mention. I can only assume that the Sheriff in question somehow feels that a similar apartheid exists in Scotland.Hence his statement on denominational schools.

Hamiltontim @20:15 I read the speeches given by McCann and Findlay. They’re laughable.

They don’t represent anyone but themselves.

I decided to investigate further and read one of Findlay’s economic research works. Like her speech it was like something out of a Soviet five year plan. also like her speech it quoted herself unabashedly.

    ———

They took the trouble to turn up and speak. Purely by these actions they’re more representative of the support than you, who by your own admission only know of the content of the speeches reading them.

You seem to be allowing the political allegiances of the speakers to be clouding your views.

What is the difference between the KKK and the orange klan both believe in discrimination and division many Scottish OOs are affiliated to branches of the KKK.

The OO already have a Scottish Loyalist Party and are looking for a broader base of support hence the connection with SDL/BNP I can assure you they are planning for an independent Scotland they will push the same policies as the BNP got elected on in England in councils and the Euro parliament that is not living in the past. This will happen and we are sleepwalking into fascist parties being elected in Scotland.

  22. Jungle Jim

What! Do you really believe that.If you think that any opinion giving in The Crown Bar,Belfast is worth listening too,you are deluded.

  23. Before the SNP took power The Lord Advocate was a QC who would do the job with prospect of becoming a high judge

Now we have career prosecutors who are beholden to their pay masters …an unhappy development

  24. Saying ‘yes’ in the referendum in no way suggests that you support the SNP. There are many socialists in the yes camp who want Scotland to be unattached from the even more right wing politics of our southern neighbours. The first step after independence will be to get a government that supports the aspirations of a fairer society. There are a surprising number of British nationalists (small ‘n’) on this site who seem to think there is something inherently better about being part of Britain.

  25. St John I think you worry too much. Scotland is no longer dominated by previous historical divisions. It seems that only Labour dinosaurs(I am not referring to you) wish to perpetuate the old ways. The electorate are more sophisticated nowadays. Thankfully the days of a corrupt Labour party ruling forever are in the past.
