Bitton deal, here’s an idea, just repay Mikes’ loan

475

Very pleased to hear Nir Bitton has signed a contract until 2020. Five years is an astonishing extension for a player who is clearly heading in the right direction. It gives Celtic assurance that they don’t need to worry about a key player’s contract running down for the foreseeable future.

Nir was the first manifestation of Ronny Deila’s player-improvement work. At the start of last year he was little more than a squad addition, a bit like Leigh Griffiths, but he’s since excelled in domestic and European football, as well as for Israel in the Euro qualifiers.

Let’s see if he can continue to improve.

I note the media going ‘a bit Tonto’ over Sports Direct’s insistence that the Rangers Former Players Benevolent Fund stop using trademarks they own. I know this will make many people swallow hard, but’s be clear, if the Celtic Former Players Association were selling merchandise bearing the Celtic crest the club would be saying “Cease and Desist that right now, Joe”. Same is true if you are a fan selling T-shirts or street vendor selling scarves.

Without making moral judgements, football clubs earn money from licensing their logos, you want to use it, you pay. You don’t pay, the club cannot discriminate between who they pursue and who they don’t, as such discriminatory behaviour would be a legitimate defence in law by a transgressor.

Sports Direct own thousands of logos and brands. They will have a department sweeping for infringements and they don’t strike me as the kind of company who let any slip through without action. I’d be amazed if Mike Ashley, or any senior SD staff, were even aware of the action.  Cease instructions will come out from the legal team without a second thought.

What remains galling to some is the fact that Newco have to take instructions from Sports Direct on use of logos and other IP. This, on top of the whole Fifa 2016 indignity, could be ended by repaying the Sports Direct £5m loan.

Why wouldn’t they stop the embarrassment and just pay Mike his money? He’s not going to cut a new deal, no positive accommodation is ever going to happen, all that lies ahead is more embarrassment, and the risk of Ashley taking genuinely draconic action to recover his loan.  I’m sure they money’s there to repay, right?

  1. What did I say earlier about predictive text . Wee daddy league should of course read Big daddy league.

    Or something like that.

  2. In case you were wondering how to storm the Ashley ramparts, that intrepid SMSM sports ‘journalist’ exposingtherhats, has penned a little guide.

‘For the first time in several years we aren’t leading a hand to mouth existence, plans are in place for 2 players to come in at Christmas and another 4 or 5 in the summer. Being a Rangers fan is finally fun again.

There is one rather rotund dark cloud on the horizon in the form of Mike Ashley’s Sports Direct…he is currently having a childish huff which happens to be backed by a very expensive legal team.

Many are asking what can we do to help, here are a few simple steps below:

    (I have summarised)

    1. Don’t buy from Sports Direct.

    2. Write to your MP.

    3. Come up with your own ideas to create negative PR, financial loss or shareholder unrest at Sports Direct.

    4. Buy some blue shirts from Chris Graham.

    5. Er, that’s it

    Two points;

You mean the Norwegian Champions? – who’ve turned the group upside down, and drawn with Ajax beaten Fenerbache and Celtic.

That the Celtic who can only beat SPL ‘fodder’? ( tut – tut )

This is where we’re at, and the ‘plenty of regular internet trumpets’ disappear as soon as Celtic win, from this Blog.

Because they have their own agaendas, and winning doesn’t suit, so they’ll wait for the next catastrophe, which might be a poorish EL result or campaign.

    Secondly,

With regard to the football I think Celtic were naïve in Molde, and just like the others in the group underestimated Molde, who are a clone of Malmo who are a clone of yada yada, no stars, not much soccer, just a technical team plan, over two games, – hey presto.

Our young successful manager(s) will have learned from a very disappointing performance. I maintain Celtic man for man, pass for pass, kick by kick are a much better side than Molde.

That doesn’t guarantee we’ll do well in the EL, and I’ve already posted RD’s method isn’t suited to negotiating our way through the group stages.

    Exposing the rhats is hilarious.

He’ll come up with an accusation, pretend it’s been verified, and state it as fact. Any ‘verification’ of course comes from himself or a rabid sevco site.

He thinks that by naming ‘the plan of attack’ ie DCK is skint, this somehow negates the truth of the matter.

Keep up the good work sonny, we like our huns deluded.

When we beat a team we all seen what went right with our own eyes. When we lose to a team there are many different opinions of what went wrong and some are wildly different. That’s why the blog is busier after a defeat,,because there are soo many opinions as to why we lost. Nought to do with happyclappers/mineshafters. I dare say the majority of footie blogs are the same. All in my humble opinion of course. Hail Hail

  6. Your CommentTBJ- Would be funny to hear big Claude from The Apprentice,on all things Sevco..:)

  7. If somebody owed you money and told you you weren’t getting it back then asked for the same again..what would you do? Mike is doing the corporate version of that.

i cant understand any objections to Celtic shareholders being active.especially with our clubs history.

Celtic fans only want the betterment of Celtic

you dont have to look far to see how a minority shareholder can cause a bit o trouble lol:-)

  9. My friends in Celtic,

We should be encouraging people to post on the site. All views and opinions must surely be welcomed providing they are within acceptable parameters of the blog.

I remember Winning Captains stated that at times there was traffic of about 20,000 on the site. I wonder if more of them would post if they weren’t labeled with an unnecessary tag.

    Hail, Hail.

  10. Mr GASL King is purposely backing Sevco into a corner – he will eventually throw the towel in and opt for administration – his story to the Gulls, will be that he has done all he could, but the clumping needs to go back, to go forward.

Funily enough, a win over Hibs at the weekend, might have expedited the process, as with a bigger points lead they would be confident of a play-off place at least.

Oh what a mess!!!! However there are those among us who are jealous of the Govan aggro, and would really like some of it at Celtic – the Celtic Truss (sic) being a prime example.

    A WEE TEST.

Find the bit in the article which says Nir `thought about leaving`. The first sentence below was actually the headline.

“Nir Bitton, who has just signed a new five-year contract with Celtic, admits he thought about leaving the club

    last season.

The Israel international, 24, revealed pep talks with manager Ronny Deila helped convince him to persevere.

A lack of first-team opportunities last year had left him frustrated but he is now a regular in Deila’s team.

“Sometimes in your career you go through tough moments, but I’m happy that I went through it,” said Bitton.

“I’m happy that I stayed, happy I signed a new contract. I’m the happiest man in the UK now.”

Bitton started his career with FC Ashdod in his homeland and joined Celtic in 2013.

However, he was in and out of the team and often left on the bench before becoming more established in the starting line-up in the second half of last season.

So far this term, the midfielder has made 22 appearances, scoring five goals.”

  12. AN TEARMANN

let’s just say they’r not my cuppa tea, I wish them no harm, and nor do I wish to join them, but I deserve the right to criticise them on the way they go at the club, same as they have on me backing the club, let’s just say we dance to a different tune, and leave it at that.

You have cherry picked the sentence and only quoted with inverted commas part of the message, omitting the crucial part :- within acceptable parameters of the blog.

The part of your post which I wanted to respond to was the part about ` all views and opinions`. The part you feel is crucial `within acceptable parameters of the blog.` was irrelevant to my point. There was no ` cherry picking ` involved. I disagree that we should encourage `all views and opinions` and tried to show why I disagree.

eila has been named Scottish Premiership manager of the month after a fine October domestically for Celtic.

He received his Scottish Professional Football League award after the reigning champions returned to the top of the top flight ahead of Aberdeen.

Celtic had four straight league victories during October, concluding with a 3-1 win over the Dons to stretch their lead to six points.

Deila’s side also defeated Hearts in the Scottish League Cup.

However, in the Europa League, Celtic were held to a 2-2 at home by Fenerbahce and lost 3-1 to Molde in Norway.

“Every game is important, but beating Aberdeen at home was even more so as it gives us an advantage in the league,” Deila told league sponsor Ladbrokes.

“Nobody can take these points away from us now.

“We want to keep winning and keep developing, but it makes it even better if we can develop while already winning games and with a gap at the top of the table.”

Deila singled out in-form striker Griffiths for praise.

“Leigh has developed a lot over the last 18 months,” he said. “In the beginning, he wasn’t playing regularly, but he has worked hard and is better now on and off the pitch.

“He was important at the end of last season, but he is even more so now and that’s a credit to him.

“To have a player that scores in almost every game is what every team wants and he will be a big player for us this season and hopefully for many years to come.”
