Board statement: dressing room, winning the 10, values

417

Celtic’s statement yesterday had interesting parts to it.  First was timing, it was released early evening, after a full working days’ deliberations on what to do next.  I suspect the appropriate reaction to the home draw with St Johnstone was under review for much of that time.

The second element that stuck me was the voice, this was “The Board”, not more commonly used “The Club” voice.  The Board is more personal, it was a choice to identify with the decision.

Several points stood out:

“understands the importance of winning the league championship this season..

“deliver the tenth championship in a row that is so important to us all.

“operate according to our Club’s values.

“our collective objective is best served by continuing to support Neil

“Neil has the support of the players…

“The Board recognises the range of views expressed by our supporters and the strength of those opinions.

Talk of winning the league this season and delivering the tenth championship in a row is ballsy.  I cannot say I’m optimistic.

Some have wondered if the dressing room was behind the manager.  It was not necessary to address this, but the statement confirmed it to be the case.

“The strength of those opinions” translates as “we hear you.”

“Our collective objective is best served by continuing to support Neil” alludes to the options that you and I have pondered.  Sacking the manager is the easy part, replacing him with someone who will turn things around is the greater challenge.

Operating according to the Club’s values is an opaque statement, you can interpret it as you wish.  Neil looks lost in his challenges, but I don’t like the way he has been hounded.  He has been through traumas due to his association with Celtic that no one has ever had to tolerate and achieved greatly as player and manager.  We do not owe him a living, but he deserves dignity and respect, especially when vulnerable.  That’s how I interpreted that part of the statement, anyway.

I suspect if the board were confident any alternative course of action would increase our chances of winning the league, a different statement would have been issued.  Pragmatism is greater than sentiment.  Instead, they have placed their chips on the man from Lurgan.  If he delivers, it will be one of the most remarkable titles in our history.

Celtic: Fifty Flags Plus One, an anthology of how Celtic won each of their league titles, is available now.  Starting with our first title in 1893, it details how Willie Maley brought consistent glory, then the sparse successes over four decades before Jock Stein arrived in 1965 and the more contemporary wins since.

It will rekindle memories you had forgotten and give insight into how the leagues were won.

  1. I think a placard saying “Lennon out” is not disrespectful. But NL will not walk if he’s go any sense – there’s too much money involved and of course the Board is as much or more to blame than he is. It would be better if the placards said “Sack Lennon” so Neil can get his compensation.

I won’t be surprised if we lose against Lille (perhaps it’s time to accept it and experiment with fringe players) but if NL goes with same old players and same lack of a system then I think we can conclude that he just doesn’t get it.

Can’t see us beating Hearts (they’ll be energized and Craig Gordon will muster all he’s got to twist the knife) if no major changes. And then against rangers NL has shown zero signs of learning from previous performances. What is he going to do next game? Rely on some individual brilliance? I’m not confident. Would a loss to rangers in January be the definite end of 10IAR? Probably but not certainly. NL would hopefully be sacked and the incoming manager and coaches should simply do their best without obsessing about 10IAR – maybe it’s a blessing in disguise. But if they do their best perhaps we’ll all be pleasantly surprised. The main thing is we need a big replacement, someone with real success as a player that players can look up to in coaching sessions, would feel pride in being coached by. So not GS. RK is the only name recently mentioned that might have a successful temporary gig at Celtic for the rest of the season. Pay him a lot so he will accept a temporary appointment.

Saying ”The Black guy” is now shockingly racist enough for both teams to walk off the pitch.?

So if the game had been in some African, Middle East country, and someone asked Who got the Red card” and the official pointed and said ”The white guy” would that cause the same furore.I really don’t see it happening.

I had your back today brother when vile comments were directed at you. The idea of saying “the black guy” is too deep to go into on here right now but I believe Jamesgang did a solid job of replying. We cannot swap out the white for black and expect the same response.

If you know your history……… right?

In other news, Peter Grant? Blooming heck. I remember one day watching from the Jock Stein stand PG did some mental tackle that left a mark in the pitch for the whole season. Maybe back in the cat in the hat season?

The mitb in that game, which should never have been played due to the half frozen and half flooded pitch which both sides complained about, was r ight h un davison

  5. It would be more acceptable, probably, if fans would say “Lennon oot”…”new managers name in”…but so far that’s not been the case.

If people should be removed from the club, for being a failure, or being duplicitous, WHO, which person, if any, has the unblemished integrity to decide these things?

Who is capable of being the first person, to throw the first stone?

Imho, it most certainly CAN’T be any supporter who has KNOWN of the dubious cloud, or various dubious clouds, that have hung over the club for the past 8 years, maybe many more years than that, and THESE supporters continue to financially back the VERY people who have either, condoned, ignored, or even worse, PARTICIPATED in, the duplicity that aligns them with these dubious clouds!

Only those people who chose to SACRIFICE, their own personal Celtic indulgence, when MON presented his reasons and left the club, by walking out the FRONT door,(not Fergus’s wee sleekit side door), before that he had honestly told us the “slow lane” was now deemed to be good enough for Celtic supporters, and THIS, not long after these same Celtic supporters behaved impeccably at the 2003 Uefa cup final, and were later awarded by Uefa, for their incredible ambassadorial roles that they fulfilled, in Seville 2003. MON kindly made his farewell speech and left the club, rather than be a duplicitous Tory Celtic manager. Probably the last time we had a manager who would put his neck on the line, to inform Celtic supporters IN PUBLIC(Brendan did as weel) that those who should be running the club on YOUR behalf, were now going to subject the quality of the product on the pitch to austerity, and they were going to be duplicitous about it, telling you that they had to balance the books, but NOT mentioning that the only area of the club that WASN’T going to be subject to austerity cuts, was season ticket prices, and PLC bonuses, and that the Ibrox club would be subject to austerity at the same time, somehow the Ibrox austerity is never included in the historical, glowing references of, the WGS era. Hmmm.

MON might not be everybody’s favorite, but he tipped us off that the SHAFTING of Celtic supporters was about to begin.

I walked out the FRONT door with MON, and I also believe that Brian Quinn and co, deliberately leaked the info to the SMSM on Black Sunday, that MON would be leaving, and that WGS would be replacing him.

What a mood lifter that was!

I started this post by saying that not one supporter who has known, what every dog, on every street knew, has the clean integrity TO JUDGE whilst they’ve financially backed the PLC that have a lot of dubious clouds hanging over them, clouds that the PLC has done little to dispel any accusations of duplicity, and yet, the only people who can effect the direction of the club, continue to financially back the PLC, but 50,000+ DON’T support the team on the pitch, preferring the LAZY option of, sitting on their hands, and JUDGING the Green Brigade’s 2,500+ supporters who are many things, but one charge that can’t be levelled at them, is being LAZY.

MON tipped off supporters that they were about to be cheated by an austerity favoring PLC, who’s political mindset is in line with that of, Tweedledee, and Tweedledum, who’ve governed the 26 counties for 100+ years, a PLC who cut everything, except PLC bonuses, and season ticket prices.

I couldn’t envisage MON doing the PLC a favor in his later International manager status, by holding a SMSM conference, and virtually getting on his knees and pleading with Scotland’s football authorities, to reconstruct the leagues, just after one of the Ibrox clubs failed attempts to gain promotion to SPFL.

MON’s replacement, WGS in his role as Scotland international team manager, held a SMSM conference, virtually getting on his knees, and pleading with Scotland’s football authorities, to effectively RIG the game even more, by pleading with them to reconstruct the leagues, to get the Ibrox club promoted. And a huge amount of Celtic supporters continue to idolize, WGS who’s crimes are far widely worse than what we’ve seen so far, from Sir Rod Stewart.

So again, it’ll be difficult to find a Celtic supporter, who has the integrity, to judge…

What the structure of the club should look like?

Should there be a PLC, with all that that entails?

    Should there be a board?

    Should there be a CEO?

    Who would the manager be?

How do we stop the drain on resources from dressing room wages?

Should there be more standing room?

Was the Hillsborough all seating outcome, a Thatcherite overreaction, designed to remove, working class, socialist, gathering areas on football terraces, ie: The Jungle, The Kop, The Stretford end, etc, etc, and to evolve supporters into becoming, customers, a neoliberal power grab, sort of?

And should we forge alliances with other supporter groups of other clubs, to push for a removal of the majority of seats from stadiums, Liverpooll fans want this, Man Utd, and Wolves are installing rail seats at present, and hopefully that will grow, all done with paramount safety in mind, at all times.

Should we change our strip as often as we do?

Should we try to create a managerial boot room like the great Liverpool teams had?

Should we allow our manager, Neil, or whoever, to wait till we’re on the up again, and the trophy haul is still decent, and spring a trap on the SMSM, whilst during a live broadcast, out of nowhere, our manager ‘deliberately’ gets involved in a heated exchange with a journalist, and our manager says to said journalist…

“You know your a fake. The company that sent you here distribute nothing but, fake news!”

“The journo sitting next to you, is a Celtic FC, hating, fake!”

“And he won’t be out of place, sitting among you, all of you.”

“To save a lot of my precious time, this’ll be all of your last day’s in here, we’ll both be glad of that, ME, to remove all of your knives from my back, and my front, and for YOU ALL you won’t have to fake your appreciation of being in this, hallowed, glorious, miraculous, beautiful, BEAUTIFUL, place, anymore.”

All of you, you, you, you, and oh yes, especially you, I’ll be kind to you, I’ll allow you to leave of your own accord, so pick up your, fake news equipment, your anti-Celtic hate materials, and get out, right now, and from this point on, Scottish football’s greatest ever team, founded by, the hated, beautiful, Irish immigrant souls, who came here to escape the, English, and Scottish, imperial, potato genocidal murder squads, and they came here, HERE, to this forsaken, land, a land populated by witches, and horrible, anti-Irish, evil bigots, and this, the most beautiful creation that this, horrible, putred, little land has EVER seen, the beautiful, Celtic Football Club, and it’s stadium, the greatest, biggest, and most beautiful stadium, filled with, beautiful, faithful supporters, who’s beautiful hearts, and souls, will tower like the highest beacons, above the rest of this, prehistoric country, governed by prehistoric peepul, and this amazingly supported, Celtic FC, was created by the innocent, and beautiful soul, of Brother Walfrid, he WAS, IS, and FOREVER, shall be the greatest human being, EVER, to set foot on this, THIS, backward, basket case of a midden. So go and tell your fake lie’s, not news, LIE’S, then I dare you to run this speech in full, but you won’t, because your FAKES! Now goodbye, and GOOD riddance!” “Oh, and I’ve changed my mind on this beautiful day, every day is a beautiful day, when you’ve been blessed by the love of this beautifully, TRIUMPHANT club, so yeah, a slight change in plan, Finbar will see you out. Goodbyeeeez!” 💪 🍀

He does have TWO Horses in One Race however ( which is not unusual for him), so that can make it even tougher to pick winners, but the Stable No1 Jockey is NICO DE BONVILLE and he is on one of them which will be the likely favourite…who knows ?

I will NOT be Posting horses every day, that would be wrong of me, especially IF its costing you Bhoys money, with some horses running like a COO ?

In my defence, I only REALLY Fancied One of them ( Hendersons horse ), because he has always been my favourite trainer, but because of the Names of the Two horses, I couldnt resist betting them BOTH…as both Names were VERY Topical in relation to the crap thats going on at Celtic Park, so it was a bit of fun that paid off handsomely !
