Bobby and Tommy, men with established priorities

412

You are going to read lots about Tommy Burns, who we lost 10 years ago today, and Bobby Murdoch, the first of the Lions to go, on this date in 2001, so I’ll share an observation on both.

Tommy’s coffin was carried into the church by Ally McCoist and Walter Smith.  Tommy had lots of friends, former team-mates and players, as well as a large family.  There was no shortage of candidates to carry the man’s mortal remains, but in extending the invitation to Walter Smith and Ally McCoist, he left you and me something to live up to.

There can be few more public expressions of an intimate invitation.  How well do you and I reach across the city to others?  I have considered that question, on and off, for almost 10 years.

The only time I met Bobby Murdoch he went straight to asking me what I did for a living.  Then he talked about his wife, Kathleen, and her job.  There were a dozen others in the room, nine of whom were Lisbon Lions, but that was what Bobby wanted to talk about.  His priorities were well established.

Time barred they are saying ,but i think Celtic put something in place before the 5 years were up ? Anyone advise…?

  3. Focus Required people:

Resolution 12 was never about Rangers, it was about SFA Governance. The SFA are attempting to throw the dead club under a bus and ‘move on’.

Ogivie, Bryson, Longmuir, Peat, Broadfoot, Smith(s) Murray et al need dragged to court for fraud.

  4. Is Police Scotland watching, I think they’d better be.

Is yer erse twitching yet Darryl?

  5. So much to admire about Brian Clough but he could be such an insensitive & crass man, devoid of introspection, sympathy & humanity.

This footage was obviously recorded in a time when the police cover up was not admitted or widely known but his arrogance and casual indifference to the enormity of the deaths never mind this crime is staggering.

That the audience think his comments about Liverpool fans being to blame are worthy of laughter beggars belief. I know that we know the truth now, but he’s looking for cheap laughs over this.

For many in England (and beyond) the manufactured image of Scousers meant that they were usually considered to be dishonest & dodgy and somehow less worthy of any humanity. This is very apparent in this clip.

I understand he may have changed his mind over some of these comments, but to sell a book on the back of such miserable cruelty to the bereaved of 96 souls who just went out to see a football match is beyond words for me.

Somehow reminds me of the poor lad Scott Hutchison who died a few days ago.

His last words were all about looking after & hugging those you love.

Which brings me back to Tommy Burns and his humanity & love of family & friends.

    Wee reminder for us all.

Looks like the SFA are distancing themselves from the scam.

They will probably not stamp Johnstone’s Fit and Proper card and slowly retire Dickson and Bryson, with a big payout for their services.

Will they tell us that ,like UEFA, that they can’t punish a deid club?

Well done Bhoys, Baws, Auldheid and the gang, You kept at it and Persistence has beaten resistance.

Well done again and lets see what happens now? Is this a jump before being pushed move? are they about to fail this year anyway and this sugar coats it to blame the sfa?

    interesting indeed,

  8. Well done to all involved in Res 12, the founders, the 100 shareholders and Auldheid and BRTH who ran with it.

I guess what happens next is even more important.

    Police Scotland you’re up.

  9. Just caught up with the news about the SFA Compliance issue.

Huge well done to those who showed what determination, resilience & yes resistance can achieve.

This is a start, and frankly Uefa may not feel that the 5 year rule allows them to take any direct action over this, but it must influence their thinking when allowing the SFA to licence the same directors on the basis of numbers that they claim are accurate.

Best indicator of current behaviour is past behaviour.

Well done to Audlheid & all those behind the scenes

  10. Doff of the ole hat to Auldheid and the others who have brought us to this day. Thank you, gentlemen.

What happens next and will deid team have to compensate the teams whom they have cheated out of European revenue???? Now wouldn’t that be good.

Why rubbish them then, thats why.

“Souptakers” etc for guys you don’t know ?

There’s real Celtic men being rightly remembered today. I can recall one of them being rubbished by some of our support as a hothead. That was ill founded guff too.

We know the SFA are not going to give us justice here, needs to go to UEFA….

  14. A huge Celtic thank you to the Res. 12 Bhoys, persistence beats resistance indeed. Your determination not to let this die has been hugely influential in what has happened today:))

And this news on the anniversaries of two of our Greatest, Tommy and Bobby, two men who exemplified what Celtic is and what it means to the support is not lost on this Tim:))

I hope this is the beginning of justice at last..

STV hardly even worth the name media company, them laying done an “it’s alright huns” fanny is as predictable as it is insulting…

  15. Great work by the Res 12 guys!

It will be interesting to see if they try to avoid sanctions as they try to blame it on the old incarnation.

Maybe the same club myth will come along to bite them on the chapter and verse!

  16. Great news!! The Res12 guys are rewarded for their sterling efforts, a milestone has been achieved, now let the game begin.

Personally,I don’t think Smith cheated. He played the best players available to him, provided by his chairman/owner.

Aye,he was-and still is-a bigot and a bully. But he didn’t cheat. Others cheated for him.

    Sad basturts,every one of them.

  19. Its five to five its………………. Statement Time

THE Rangers Football Club (“the Club”) was informed today by the Scottish FA (“SFA”) that, after an eight-and-a-half month investigation, the SFA will not be proceeding with a Notice of Complaint in respect of the submission made by the Club to the SFA at the end of March 2011 with regard to the issue of the Club’s UEFA licence for the following Season.

The Club is unsurprised that it has now finally been accepted by the SFA that the accusations made against the Club were groundless. The Club questions whether the time, cost and expense of this investigation was justified and was a good use of the SFA’s limited resources.

Disappointingly, and presumably rather than accept that the investigation was a waste of all parties’ time and resources, the Club has been served with a new revised Notice of Complaint relating to the monitoring period subsequent to the grant of the UEFA licence. This new Notice of Complaint neglects to properly capture the provisions of prior agreements made between the Club and the SFA.

The Club will fiercely resist this reconstructed Notice of Complaint. Unfortunately, monies that should be available to Scottish youth and grassroots football will be diverted into another rehearsal of seven-year-old debates on the rights and wrongs of events that the SFA should have prevented at a time when doing so would have served a useful purpose.

It seems that Scottish Football is, once again, being directed by individuals intent on harming the Scottish game, Rangers Football Club and its supporters by pursuing a course that has no sensible purpose or reasonable prospect of success.

  20. A big well done to the Resolution 12 Bhoys – the four Musketeers; Auldheid, BRTH, Canamalar and Morrissey23.

Yes it will be interesting to see if sevco run with the same club rhetoric now? Hopefully we can now push to have LNS revisited and the cheats on both sides – sevco and ftSFA brought to book. For those who said they were unaware of Resolution 12 there is no excuse now! It is out in the public domain.

    RFCIL/sevco – Cheats then

    Cheats now

    Cheats forever
