Bobby and Tommy, men with established priorities

412

You are going to read lots about Tommy Burns, who we lost 10 years ago today, and Bobby Murdoch, the first of the Lions to go, on this date in 2001, so I’ll share an observation on both.

Tommy’s coffin was carried into the church by Ally McCoist and Walter Smith.  Tommy had lots of friends, former team-mates and players, as well as a large family.  There was no shortage of candidates to carry the man’s mortal remains, but in extending the invitation to Walter Smith and Ally McCoist, he left you and me something to live up to.

There can be few more public expressions of an intimate invitation.  How well do you and I reach across the city to others?  I have considered that question, on and off, for almost 10 years.

The only time I met Bobby Murdoch he went straight to asking me what I did for a living.  Then he talked about his wife, Kathleen, and her job.  There were a dozen others in the room, nine of whom were Lisbon Lions, but that was what Bobby wanted to talk about.  His priorities were well established.

Nothing to be proud of me for, mate. That initial period was hardly by choice!

You will find it more difficult to give up,G. Mainly because you will have to give up tobacco and yer blaw. I wish you well if and when you decide to do so.

Look on the bright side-at least you’ll be able to bite your fingernails. I couldnae!!!

  2. Hit the post button too soon……

I know it’s not about the huns, but the sfa are making it about them to deflect from their complicity, the hun statement indicated that they will bring the sfa down if they are to be sanctioned, this is where we really need to hope the sfa go after them big time cos it’s the only way the sfa will be got at imo.

A wee cheer you up… myself and lynne were going to my mates Mrs 50th eigthies fancy dress on friday night.

Lynne was dressed up as Agnetha from Abba and i was Adam Ant makeup all.

We got out the taxi at stamperland bowling club, when we walked in nobody else was in fancy dress!

Thought we’d been sent up, I phoned my mate to find out it was clarkston bowling club the party was in.

Walked the mile up the road as there was no taxis, every bloody car that went by tootrd their horns. Our fools & horses moment

  4. Well done the resolution 12 bhoys ,

A big round of applause to you for all your hardwork and patience

in getting this out in the open now .

Not to sure why ftsfa are charging oldo/newco/sevco as I believe res 12 was about sfa governance .

The old/new club probably chanced their arm and the sfa passed them ok ,

surely its up to the governing body to ensure the rules are enforced (lol)

Lets hope its not a whitewash . Hopefully few senior people at sfa loose their job over

this and the footballing world can see them for what they are , cheating , corrupt and useless .

Celtic then sue them for costing them money , financial ruin and no jobs on their corrupt committees .

Karma for the 90’s has been good the last 6 yrs but especially last few weeks….hail hail

Say hi to maybe the only blonde I know who is better looking than Agnetha.

    Even this version of Agnetha.

PS-I miss THEBARCAMOLE. He died roughly a year ago,BUTSYBHOY could tell us exactly when. First time we met up,it was just the two of us. Everyone else had gone to the wrong pub.

    Aye. Sure.

We had a great time, hitting it off. Franny blamed it on the blue taxi dropping us off at the wrong pub deliberately. Smashing night, that. First time in CQN company. And some right legends.

  7. Good news on the face of it today but i am a little confused. The initial investigation was to look at ‘the decision to award RFC a licence in 2011’. The Huns Statement seems to suggest the SFA are not issuing them with a complaint in relation to that but are instead issuing them with a new complaint in relation to the monitoring period. Therefore the Huns suggesting it is the SFA’s problem.

I would think they were either awarded a licence correctly or they weren’t?

So, is the Huns statement nonsense and deflection and has done it’s job by getting me all confused? Or are the SFA saying they were correctly issued a licence but are charging them with something lesser in relation to the monitoring period?

  8. From slimshady1961

“..new Notice of Complaint neglects to properly capture the provisions of prior agreements made between the Club and the SFA.” Whatever can they mean?

Could you post Straight to Hell by my favourite band The Clash please. Listen to the opening verse. Is the prophet Joe Strummer singing about Ibrox today? Uncanny

  10. Well done to the Resolutioners. Hopefully this is only the start of it. Saw some saying UEFA cannot get involved because it was out side of the 5 years.

I thought no statute of limitations on corruption charges.

    HH and well done.

  11. From lennysbhoy.

Conspiracy theory. Sevco won’t turn the loans to equity in time so possibility of multiple year euro ban. SFA get in first giving 1 year ban as retrospective punishment and current directors seem blame free. Gives Sevco a year to sort the loans to equity.

  12. There are 2 bodies with all the paperwork potentially. The accused and the accuser. They both know exactly where this can go…. or not. I’m hoping Entitled Hubris FC kick back and fight as hard as they can. That way we will get more in the open and closer to the truth.

Reading between the lines it looks like the SFA are accepting that their March submission was in order (I think the court records show they weren’t) and focuses on the later UEFA update requirements accusing the/a club of nor fulfilling this.

If this becomes accepted/the result then ‘punishment’ may be lenient. It’s at that point I think Celtic should seriously consider suing for loss of place and income. We don;t need to push that all the way but perhaps the threat might be enough to force real change at SFA?

Btw,I saw The Clash a couple of times-but just this once at The Magnum in Irvine.

My young mate and I-eh,I was only 18 myself!-were right down the front. Aye,dangerous but heyho,it was a terrific two hours.

    Plus a forty minute encore.

So I made the executive decision that they wouldn’t come back. Jump in the motor, gtf pdq. Aye,you guessed it. Back on. Niall and I watched it from the mixing desk. Honest. Just asked. Another maybe half hour.

You know I’m not really a huge fan of live music,G. I’m a bloody huge fan of that night, for sure.

I would doubt whether “Celtic” have much appetite to sue anyone for loss of income. Celtic shareholders on the other hand might see things differently?

  21. A bad day for Sevco/Rangers about to get worse tomorrow morning, totally unrelated to today’s news. I’m unwilling to say anymore, all will be revealed in 10 hours. Hail Hail Hebcelt

  22. The SFA make these findings known today after 8 months of basically looking at old evidence….on the same day they announce another misconduct charge against NFL.

A bit like trying to mitigate bad news by chucking in some good news.

The statement from Traynor is their best yet.

A thing of perfect Pythonesque parody.
