Boot on the other foot for a change

601

For years we worried of the consequences an away trip in Europe would do to our weekend performance.  The boot is on the other foot now.  Hearts head to Celtic Park on Sunday after returning from Switzerland in the early hours of this morning.

Their result against Zurich was perfect: a narrow defeat keeps the tie alive; manager Robbie Neilson will be alert to the possibility of delivering Europa League football with a sold home win on Thursday.  Do not underestimate the emotional and physical strain put on the Hearts players as a result of last night’s game.  I am feeling unusually confident about Sunday.

There is a similar story at play with another Glasgow-Edinburgh fixture this weekend.  Hibs host Newco, who are between European qualifiers.  Hibs, like Celtic, don’t need to bother about these games.

Newco’s next six league games include visits to Hibs, Celtic, Aberdeen and Hearts.  This run will expose whatever weaknesses exist in their squad.  Celtic have their own business to take care of, and we will be in the middle of Champions League group stage exertions during this period, but, the opportunity is there to build a clear lead in the title race.

I haven’t been to a Celtic game since Brendan Rodgers was appointed .

For me , it was the final straw , a sop to the fans on the back of years of prevarication and obfuscation by the board (regarding resolution 12) . Their treatment of Auldheid still rankles .

However , I learned something about myself when I was in my sixties that I wish I had learned when I was in my twenties .

I won’t get into details now but a Myers-Briggs personality test categorised me as an advocate .

Apparently one strength is being principled (fine so far) but a major weakness is fixating on imperfections (not good) .

Digressing slightly , I was one of the lucky ones to attend the CQN banquet in Lisbon in 2017 and was fortunate enough to be seated beside the true gentleman that is Scaniel and his daughter .

It was a wonderful evening and I realise now that I have been foolish in missing out on similar opportunities to associate with good Celtic men and women.

So , I have taken the decision to attend today with one of my sons and will present myself at CQN corner .

Hopefully I will be received like the “prodigal son” and not banished to the wilderness again LOL

I’ll let you how I get on .

    Fred Colon,

I can’t imagine not going to see Celtic if it was possible to do so. I’m in Canada and haven’t been to Paradise in 3 years. That said, we have a wonderful wee CSC here in Ottawa, so I support the Club that way.

All of which to say…Welcome Back.

  10. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

The champions of Scotland kick off in just over an hour…

both teams can go top if result goes their way

There is no mention of it yet on BBC Football main page.

Perhaps those whose job it is to prepare the pre-match report and recommend it’s promotion to the UK wide football page are still upset after yesterday?
