Breakdown on taxpayers £75m hit

835

I think some people have been reading too much into mentions of Rangers owing HMRC up to £75m.  For clarity, the big tax case, with penalties and interest, could reach approximately £50m, but that is not the end of the story.

There is the wee tax case, the potential VAT liability relating to the income from Ticketus and VAT due each quarter.  Then there is Pay As You Earn (PAYE) and National Insurance (NI).  With the lack of financial information from Rangers barring this “£75m” statement, it’s possible VAT, PAYE and NI are delinquent.

Add this lot up and you can easily see why the taxpayer could be looking at a £75m hit, Rangers did not link this figure with the big tax case alone.  I’ll leave it up to Craig Whyte’s next interviewers to ask how much of this figure has been incurred under his stewardship.

And remember, we’re only talking about HMRC debt here, don’t forget about the police, Glasgow City Council, utility suppliers and a multitude of small local businesses.

We don’t need no stinkin’ Rangers.

This will be an absolutely cracking match, 2 best teams in Scotland by a distance, hopefully will be a sellout.

  5. Ooh, listen to the hun journalists “I saw this coming” rubbish.

You did not see it coming boys, and even if you did, you somehow failed to mention it. Time to readjust your radar.

Let us enjoy the impotent rage.

And now, the huns are calling for unity.

United in what, exactly? Hate? An unquestioned sense of superiority? Naw.

Not much hope for the supremecist when he discovers that his supremacy was an illusion.

I hope our Neil is enjoying his breakfast.

  9. Amadeaus – I was looking through some mainstream newspapers on line to see what they are saying. Absolutely nothing that we haven’t known for two or three years and absolutely no shock that Whyte has done this. The press peddled the lies to paint their beloved club in a good light, or perhaps they even believed it all because they wanted it to be true. Well, whatever the reason they stopped a rangers supporters group emerging to save the day – and we should thank them for that.

That said looking at the tiny crowd that turned out last night to protest it is apparent that rangers supporters have become so reliant on others doing things for them that they can’t even be bothered to turn up to get angry about the death of their club.

I also think the tax bill would have stopped any realistic Fergus McCann style take over being a success any way. It may have worked over time but I’m talking a decade. Their problems compared to ours in 1994 are beyond comparison.

    To hell with them anyway.

They are going on about lack of dignity from Peter Lawwell. What did Murray say when we were going under? I’m sure it was similar but can’t find anything. Anyone got a link? They are more delusional than ever but also short with their memories.

If anyone can provide a link I will be grateful.

  16. Bless me father for i have sinned and bought every newspaper in the shop today !

Our leadership needs to stand up and clearly define our position on any future without rangers. They also need to align every other club too with the realisation that the dynamic was healthier in 80-85 with a rotten rangers than in the ensuing 25 year of corrupt living beyond their means…..

  17. Silver City Neil Lennon on

When you consider the £45m debt shunted to MIH; the £30m tax dodged and whatever they still owe to their creditors, you have to wonder how diabolically bad must their set up have been to have us win as many Leagues as we did in the last 15 years?

  18. Just looking at my own blog stats for yesterday. WordPress helpfully tells you what folk have searched for in Google, etc., to find it.

The most common search terms yesterday? Combinations of Rangers, HMRC and bust!

  19. Anyone see the sublime piece of skill displayed the young Dundee Utd player on the Beeb highlights (it happened just after they showed the Saints goal)?

If you haven’t watched it, please take the time to check it out by clicking here and jumping to 2:50 on the vid. Watch it a couple of times to see exactly what it s that he does – amazing!!

Why? Why should you watch that clip?

Imagine a Scottish Premier League where young players can flourish because the scandalous ongoing doping has suddenly halted. Picture it if you will: no more cheap-ass short term options, no more big-money impact players receiving an overly exaggerated slice of jealously guarded income streams, just a downsizing that requires steady investment in youth players, investment in the kind of precocious talent in the clip above.

Now tell me: why do we, Scottish football, need the biggest cheats ever to grace our game in order to flourish?

  20. An administrator has a legal responsibility not to make the position of creditors worse. They are not allowed to incur costs if they do not feel those costs can be repaid.

It will be very interesting to see the view an administrator may take in whether or not they can legally hold a game at Ibrox on Saturday considering the costs involved in doing so, particularly if there is zero cash in the bank account.
