Breakdown on taxpayers £75m hit

835

I think some people have been reading too much into mentions of Rangers owing HMRC up to £75m.  For clarity, the big tax case, with penalties and interest, could reach approximately £50m, but that is not the end of the story.

There is the wee tax case, the potential VAT liability relating to the income from Ticketus and VAT due each quarter.  Then there is Pay As You Earn (PAYE) and National Insurance (NI).  With the lack of financial information from Rangers barring this “£75m” statement, it’s possible VAT, PAYE and NI are delinquent.

Add this lot up and you can easily see why the taxpayer could be looking at a £75m hit, Rangers did not link this figure with the big tax case alone.  I’ll leave it up to Craig Whyte’s next interviewers to ask how much of this figure has been incurred under his stewardship.

And remember, we’re only talking about HMRC debt here, don’t forget about the police, Glasgow City Council, utility suppliers and a multitude of small local businesses.

We don’t need no stinkin’ Rangers.

I can quite understand the gloating, it is football after all. But the hate factor is hard to take, especially for the reasonable fan on both sides of the divide.

The knock on effects for Scottish Football will be severe, and it will reach Parkhead.

Hearts will get a pittance now in settlement for Wallace, they could go on Thursday. Dundee Utd , another club, with severe problems will not get their cup money. The SPL is a house of cards ready to collapse.

Football needs rivalry and competition, you will tire of jelly and ice cream quickly.

And yet people still expect these clubs to just vote them back into the SPL.

  7. I can see FPLG now, sitting on the floor behind a catering stall. Pies all around him up to the waist. A mixture of tears and mutton grease running down his chins asking

“Why is this happening? If only I was allowed to sign wee Nacho”

  8. Kill them off and let a newco start again in division three.

They’ll be back in the SPL in four years.

The time will pass soon enough and in will be a suitable interregnum to destroy any notion the huns have that nothing has changed, that their club never died.

  9. Best comedy programme on TV at the moment is Sky Sports News. Craig Whyte now looking a very worried man perhaps he has bitten off more than he can chew and underestimated the bears’ reaction. BFDJ on SSN actually admitting huns getting what they deserve. Let’s hope this is a long, slow, painful death, should keep us entertained for a few weeks. Reality TV at it’s best!!

Has it not occurred to them that, like us, the CFC board have been anticipating yesterday for nearly ten years. We’ve been living as if that day was just round the corner for the whole time. We are totally prepared to see what life without them could be like.

It would do far more for Scottish Football than allowing them straight back into the SPL would. Imagine what a couple of thousand travelling fans would do for the finances of those wee club.

  22. Funny how in the eyes of the orcs, enjoying jelly and ice cream seems to make you bitter and hate filled.

Thanks to Rangers, who were clearly unconcerned with ‘the good of Scottish football’.

And don’t forget your club is going to cheat the tax authorities out of £75m – does that make you proud?

I’d like to try and block them getting into Division 3 if possible as well so they just die totally. We should support another team that wants the vacant slot as well and mibbie give them a few quid for their campaign.

  26. Anyone know impact,if any, on joint shirt sponsorship deal? How long did we commit to and is this the opportunity to get rid?

Not a quote —— it paraphrases the opinions of an ordinary guy who happened to be a Rangers supporter who thought that Murray stunk to high heaven and would do enormous damage to Rangers.
