Breakdown on taxpayers £75m hit

835

I think some people have been reading too much into mentions of Rangers owing HMRC up to £75m.  For clarity, the big tax case, with penalties and interest, could reach approximately £50m, but that is not the end of the story.

There is the wee tax case, the potential VAT liability relating to the income from Ticketus and VAT due each quarter.  Then there is Pay As You Earn (PAYE) and National Insurance (NI).  With the lack of financial information from Rangers barring this “£75m” statement, it’s possible VAT, PAYE and NI are delinquent.

Add this lot up and you can easily see why the taxpayer could be looking at a £75m hit, Rangers did not link this figure with the big tax case alone.  I’ll leave it up to Craig Whyte’s next interviewers to ask how much of this figure has been incurred under his stewardship.

And remember, we’re only talking about HMRC debt here, don’t forget about the police, Glasgow City Council, utility suppliers and a multitude of small local businesses.

We don’t need no stinkin’ Rangers.

I’m reliably informed that they’re still forking out £2,000 for floral decorations for each home game.

How much exactly is a wreath :-)

  3. I was told a story from a rgers supporting aqaintance of mine at the weekend…he was at a sportmans dinner years ago at which the infamous ref Bobby Tait was speaking.Mr Tait let it be known that he very rarely gave Celtic anything and was quite happy to tell all and sundry of his allegiances!

Hope your having a nice night Mr Tait!

I’m indifferent to the outcome of Hun HMRC negotiations

If they lose theie demise is hastened

If they win – I start negotiating my tax payments..

That’s why there will be no negotiation…

Thanks for that extract, it really lays it bare what they are and what they are all about.

It is a wonderful day to have that scum reduced to what they are today. Brilliant, lets hope that they are forced to re-enter at the bottom of Scottish football.

Celtic must do everything in their power to put them in their place at the bottom where they belong, as others have said they have to do it for those Celts who are no longer here as much as for those who are.

The other sharp suited man made a statement, which has caused some consternation, with ra peepil.

  7. Dignity support outside Ipox looks like a small ramshackle bunch, which highlights that getting them to part with any cash for a relaunch will be difficult.

The home gate on Saturday will be very telling, do they support the club or sit on their hands?

Where is the focus or groundswell to save Dignity?

Maybe, just maybe the games up for Dignity, anyone prepared to fund it will not have deep enough pockets, those with deep enough pockets will not want the baggage of the toxic brand.

Maybe , just maybe the pot chasing mentality of the support will be the seeds of their ruin, as they cannot be bothered to support a team headed for Div 3

Don’t rule it out ghuys… Vicious circle now in full cycle… Needs huge wonga to fix

Let us remember today our forefathers and sisters who stood shoulder to shoulder since 1888 in the name of our beloved Celtic around the world..

    Today is also their day..

Working in a cleanroom when Dianogah from kds popped his head in the door to pass on the stunning news….memorys are made of this !

  15. I see the sports minister has blundered in – saying she hopes the Huns will be saved and urging HMRC to talk to them.

Dangerous stuff for Wee Eck here: the man who likes to be everyone’s friend doesn’t want to have to intervene on behalf of such a divisive institution. Yet what does the Huns demise say about Scottish business?

Their death makes Scotland look like a Mickey Mouse country, just as when RBS went belly up and nearly dragged the UK Treasury down with it…

    Lovin it!

  16. Shona Robison’s comments are very interesting. Now it could simply be that she had to say something, so made some noises about hopes for an agreement.

But what could the Scottish Government actually do to help? Make representations to Westminster – that would go down well! Give the huns money – a vote loser.

No they are far more likely to do what they always do – blame a bad thing on London and assure us that it would all be so different after seperation.

I had a large smile on my face today and I thought back to your story of that day……Hell mend them….. That man has driven them into the ground as he does with everything he touches …. his ego is larger than his ability

  18. As RTC says, the work begins now to prevent any attempt to parachute newco into the spl. We do not need them, we are NOT the old firm, we are Celtic FC!!!

  19. My Grandfather will be lying easy in his grave tonight, he played only one game for the hoops against Falkirk in the league cup back in the 30’s, as reserve goalie he had no chance of breaking through with no subs, he moved to Ireland and played 2 years with Bray Wanderers making good money but got banned Sin Die by SFA for playing in Ireland, (anti irish/ anti cathoilc policy anyone?). I’m proud my grandfather played for such a great club that I support that have so much dignity and respect, unlike our friends down govan way.

  20. it would be interesting to see the choice of celebratory beverage we are all enjoying tonight i after somethought have plumbed for Guinness to celebrate my heritage. 8o)

I was toasting my beloved Grandfather earlier in the day when the news came in.

I should toast you too now, sir, on the eloquence and relevance of your post.

Their “entitlement” has created soooo many problems.

Let’s see what they’re made of when it’s a level playing field.

They will surely not like it up them so to speak.
