Brendan Rodgers appointed Celtic manager

1136

Brendan Rodgers today became the 18th manager in Celtic’s history. Rodgers, 43, managed Liverpool for three years until October, after guiding Swansea to the English (and Welsh) Premier League in 2011. He previously managed Reading and Watford.

His appointment is unquestionably the most popular since the arrival of fellow Irishman, Martin O’Neill, 16 years ago. Known for his belief in playing attacking, possession-based football, he will bring a force of personality to the club and to Scottish football.

Rodgers occupied the top position on Celtic’s wanted list at the start of the month, but the desire to sign him up was tempered by the belief that attracting a manager of such a profile to Scotland would be difficult. My understanding is that as soon as talks got underway in earnest, it was clear neither party would let the opportunity slip away.

I’m delighted at the appointment. The club already feels reinvigorated.

Welcome to Celtic, Brendan. Let’s get on with the job.

Congratulations friends on what seems to be popular news around here. Hope he does well for you.

Main reason for this post though; could someone post a link to how to contribute to Kitalba’s Baku orphanage appeal please?

    Cheers in advance….

Well done Celts, showing a bit of ambition again! Some intent!

    Heading back where we belong!

I do not know one Celtic fan who is not overjoyed about this appointment, Sky’s poll is about as accurate as its reporting…….all my family and friends hav been phoning (actually talking) and texting and not one dissenting Tim, as a big Ronny Delia supporter (who realised his time was up) Brendan is a massive step forward, it’s never bad being a Tim, but in Tim(es) like tonight it’s pretty damned amazing……..maybe the great Desmondo has played his triumph card at the right time and wants to hammer whatever swarm of flies we face in the future

    Overjoyed

the Res12 bhoys have led the way and hopefully this is a wee statement of intent from the board

  4. Sky sports highlighting the 1 year rolling contract. They are pig sick as evidenced by their hilarious “poll”.

This is catastrophically bad news for their support of the re-emerging Sevco agenda. Huns and soup takers – hell mend them all.

Think it’s time for ya to renew. Picture it:

May 2018. CL semi final. Hoops v Barca with hoops leading 2-1 from first leg. Season tickets only. MWD nae ticket!

On a serious note D, this is clearly a turning point . Much maligned Dermot has come good. Time to repay his actions by backing him?

    I believe so

  6. I’m still reading back!

Can’t remember the last time I read EVERY post!

Some old friends posting again too.

    Keep it up ghuys!

    Dear Joseph

I am honoured today to be named the new Manager of Celtic Football Club. This is a huge privilege for me and it is a role which I will give everything to.

As someone who has supported the Club all my life, I know exactly what Celtic means to so many people. Celtic is one of the most famous football clubs in the world, one which enjoys the fantastic support of so many people, such as yourself.

I will give everything to my new role to bring further success to our club. I can’t wait to get started next season and I hope to carry on Celtic’s wonderful winning tradition and bring you exciting and entertaining football as well.

Your support has always been a great strength of this club, and I’m sure that will continue to be the case. Together we can continue our position as the best club in Scotland, and make inroads once again in Europe.

I can’t wait to see you all in Paradise.

    Best wishes,

    Brendan Rodgers.

    ———

I didn’t renew last season due to Sunday working, could only make four home games last season, that has gone now that the work prefares to subcontract at exorbitant prices to break a workforce, que Sara Sara.

Looks like I’ll need to get one to get a seat now :)))

  10. Welcome to Glasgow Celtic Brendan .

Brilliant bit of business by the Celtic board to get a

top quality manager in . Well done to them .

Hopefully a result for resolution 12 next .

    Hail Hail………………..

  11. Twisty

It’s a great appointment and finally a big well done to Celtic on the appointment.

I’m hopeful Peter the bonus collectors role and the the previous srategy has been curtailed somewhat. I’d still be happier seeing Peter leave and someone else brought in to freshen up the strategy completely. I will never forgive him for his treatment of Celtic supporters over the last few years. Especially the clandestine efforts.

All that said, I will renew when I see the club take responsibility for Res 12 and move it forward with every effort and ounce of support they can officially.

    Until then I cannot renew.

I’m taking it as read that res 12 issue will prove what we all hope, that being CFC have been active, and more importantly, in no way complicit.

I’m taking it as read as I’m taking several bhoys on here at their word.

    Any day now I believe?

  14. Well done, Paul, for your scoop. Well done to the Board for aiming high.

I’ve always been able to walk down sauchiehall street and tell between Tim or Hun. Those Huns have a very distinctive inbred, banjo playing,my mum and sister are the one person look about them.

  20. Let’s hope he gets to go his job without having to deal with the same stuff our last manager from the north did.

Has Pharrel Williams been on here haven’t seen this much happiness on here since ever. Stand behind the Celt Brendan Rodgers you know the treatment he will get from the deadies and their lackies. Season six will be fun. Hail Hail. Bron the Celtic. Mon the Hibs. Go Crystal Palace.

  22. I also trust the res12 guys but until I see Celtic officially take the issue in hand then I will remain sceptical, for now.

  25. Rodgers grew up supporting Celtic FC. In a recent friendly match between Swansea dn Celtic he offered a “special welcome to the travelling supporters I have stood alongside in the past”.

Dermot has just made squillions of Tims very happy.

That’s what I call power and influence.

It is a great appointment and I am excited. But can you or anyone else tell me please why we should be grateful to DD? What has he done? And why can’t we know the detail? The money men rule and we genuflect to them.

  27. Paul67 – what happened to that hint you gave me last Friday night :-))))) ya trumpet

    Now serious point,

Brendan’s press conference on Monday at 4pm, should be in front of all prominent Celtic blogs ( so Paul 67 and others :-)) Celtic TV, Celtic view, CSA, Affiliation of Celtic supporters, Celtic Trust etc etc

Invite the MSM into stadium with us fans for their introduction to Brendan at 6pm with an open mic for those present.

Let’s keep momentum in this announcement, with challenges to all those who stand against truth and justice

Hail Hail the Celts are here

Oh – Timhorton, my sister is home, she can tell JMcC :-))

  28. Sipsini

    Definitely mate.

Clyde tonight. CL qualification a must . Utter nonsense. Whilst CL would be fantastic, respectability in the Europa League in his first season would be a very good result.

‘ Build for the CL’ said DD.

That could mean 2-3 transfer windows.
