Brendan Rodgers appointed Celtic manager

1136

Brendan Rodgers today became the 18th manager in Celtic’s history. Rodgers, 43, managed Liverpool for three years until October, after guiding Swansea to the English (and Welsh) Premier League in 2011. He previously managed Reading and Watford.

His appointment is unquestionably the most popular since the arrival of fellow Irishman, Martin O’Neill, 16 years ago. Known for his belief in playing attacking, possession-based football, he will bring a force of personality to the club and to Scottish football.

Rodgers occupied the top position on Celtic’s wanted list at the start of the month, but the desire to sign him up was tempered by the belief that attracting a manager of such a profile to Scotland would be difficult. My understanding is that as soon as talks got underway in earnest, it was clear neither party would let the opportunity slip away.

I’m delighted at the appointment. The club already feels reinvigorated.

Welcome to Celtic, Brendan. Let’s get on with the job.

I just paid my dues and went to the games.

I was working shifts at the time, and it was the best bus for me, shortish walk from either home or work.

  4. I said to my son and daughter tonight. I feel the same way as when MON was signed up to be our manager.

Ye never know son, maybe we will make an EL final together if we invest a bit and offload.

My son and daughter were only five and six when I went to Seville, I was pulling out at the last minute although all was paid for… My ma said… Get yourself over there, the kids will be fine with me.

Hopefully, I’ll see again such an experience with my kids and my ma watching down.

The signing of Brendan has gave me hope that has been lacking of late. HH

Great to see the support united behind the club.

Brendan has galvanised us with just a few words, its going to be great when he has us up and running.

We never went to war. War came to us.

  13. Cowieboy,

Went up on the Bancknock bus, but Denny born and bred!

    Exiled tim,

The Newmarket, the Falkirk bus back then used there function room up the stairs for meetings, the downstairs bar was the haunt of the Falkirk casuals, some scary moments walking in tae get a pint before going up the stair.

good times, and by the way the team was utter shite back then but by sure the craic was great!

  16. Well played Celtic FC, timing is everything in many things. Great music, dancing, football, comedy all benefit from great timing. The timing of this announcement was perfect, the Huns were in denial, Jim White,’ s face and his mangled Partidgesque delivery ( no change there) were a joy to watch. Then as I drove to the gym I checked out BFDJ for 10 minutes, he must be a dried out husk as he spent all the time trying to piss on our chips.

He even managed to say that the last time a manager with a big reputation , Le Guen, he flopped in 5 months. He also stated that PLG had won two European cups as a manager, I will excuse him as by this point he was almost crying with pain.

    Timing, you can’t beat it…..

Now all Brendan has to do is get this team up to speed for our biggest game of the season in July. Now for what it is worth, we will have Peter Houston as a number two and Big Yogi goes back to Falkirk. All sorted on Wednesday I am told.

    Hail! Hail!
