Brendan Rodgers appointed Celtic manager

1136

Brendan Rodgers today became the 18th manager in Celtic’s history. Rodgers, 43, managed Liverpool for three years until October, after guiding Swansea to the English (and Welsh) Premier League in 2011. He previously managed Reading and Watford.

His appointment is unquestionably the most popular since the arrival of fellow Irishman, Martin O’Neill, 16 years ago. Known for his belief in playing attacking, possession-based football, he will bring a force of personality to the club and to Scottish football.

Rodgers occupied the top position on Celtic’s wanted list at the start of the month, but the desire to sign him up was tempered by the belief that attracting a manager of such a profile to Scotland would be difficult. My understanding is that as soon as talks got underway in earnest, it was clear neither party would let the opportunity slip away.

I’m delighted at the appointment. The club already feels reinvigorated.

Welcome to Celtic, Brendan. Let’s get on with the job.

  1. All the reports were saying ,an appoinyment would be made early next week.Even DD was giving this out.

Anyone tells me we dont have some Tims on that Board, especially DD,theres your answer.

No matter what happens at Hampden tomorrow, and I am not giving up on that, they are off the front page.

    Appointment,of course.

I don’t know if you listened to SSB tonight but Keevins almost gave you a mention when he was challenged over saying that he believed Brendan Rodgers would have £15 million to spend next season. He said that he had been following someone reliable who tends to get the information right and that was his source and he fully believed that £15 m would be given. He was more or less saying he had followed events on CQN.

  4. TimGreen, I don’t worship them(I know you didn’t say I did specifically) but PL runs the club, DD is the largest share holder. When they do badly they are open to criticism, rightly, when they do well they are entitled to the congratulations.

So well done to the SSM and DD.

    Cracking appointment.

Welcome aboard, both you and Brendan together. You’re no Brendan are you???? :)))

    Hey bud, hows you?

I’m ok, although it’s been a horrible last month and a half. Mum and Dad came to visit, and Dad took really ill, was rushed to hospital, and was there for well over 6 weeks. Just got home now, although to a hospital in Scotland.

Had plans to come back, and had to cancel, as couldn’t leave parents in Brazil, while going back to Scotland obviously…..

Anyway, coming back soon, (must be the only Celtic Fan who spent their worst years outside of Scotland!), and hopefully dad keeps improving, and this news can only help!

  8. Turkey, does that mean we haven’t had Tims on the board since MON left?

Haven’t seen a change in boardroom

myself. Dropping attendances, apathy and bags of letters have made this current lot take heid. Without that then we’d likely be entering season still in project mode.

Na but you and your rafter won’t see that!

  9. Cowiebhoy, Doc,

I think the bus that was run by Lawrence was the one that serviced Laurieston, the other bus from Falkirk left from the Star on Grahams Rd. I was a Banknock bus bhoy back then as there was no Denny bus, it sadly folded a few years ago by that time i was on the Neilly Mochan bus which has been busier than ever this year and in great health, bucking the trend in general.

Might need a double decker next year for the Brendanbau, sign Zlatan and there will be a waiting lists for seasons!

  10. Doc

You are going back to listening to that Radio Clyde thing, and thinking aboooot Lauriefaedeniston ya roaster :-))))

  11. Hi DOC. Glad you are as positive about this appointment as I am but what is it about DD? Who says it was down to him? And not, for example, PL? We will never know. We just pay the money, on season books, tickets, merchandise, travel, etc. DD;s financial commitment is peripheral. He rarely attends matches, finals or even AGMs. He attends golf tournaments and then condescends to address us in paternalistic terms.

  12. GeBhoy, might be, long time ago.

CowieBhoy, I rely on you to keep me up to date with the MSM, ya plank:-)

  13. Oh, if your reading Brendan:

I am coming back from an extensive time spent in football in Brazil, and looking for a fresh new challenge……

Just in case if you haven’t made your mind up yet on assistant etc.

    :-)

  14. TomGreen, if you want to avoid the obvious, thats up to you.

If not DD and PL who could have done this?

These men run the club. They appoint all employees.

  15. Incidentally Gebhoy, I think your right a bus serviced a fan fae Laurieston, the Bhoy should have headed down the road to Grangemouth and got one of their buses ( for you Oldtim :-)))

  18. Cowieboy,

No not the tavern, only drank when the bus stopped to pick up the bhoys and ye had to nick in sharpish for a swift half, Railway Hotel at Denny Cross is my local.

    MWD,

I agree that the board has taken the temperature of the fans…..it seems that this time they’ve decided to act before we hit the terminal temperature Rubicon…..so fair play to them ;-))

  21. GeBhoy, you might be right here, Lawrence was, I think the guy who ran the bus I went up on, it did pick up in Falkirk too then, the bar across from the older tesco.

    Good times.

  22. DOC on 20TH MAY 2016 9:38 PM

TimGreen, sorry, spellcheck changed your name there.

Its ok DOC I can live with the name change but I dont see why we need people like DD who treat us like a hobbt.

  23. Gebhoy, I thought you said you were a Banknock Bhoy ?

I pass the Railway every home game, as I pick up daughter in Denny for footie, her man is fae Banknock, plays for Bo’ness ( who won a cup quarter final tonight) and often drinks in railway (partick thistle fan)
