Brendan Rodgers appointed Celtic manager

1136

Brendan Rodgers today became the 18th manager in Celtic’s history. Rodgers, 43, managed Liverpool for three years until October, after guiding Swansea to the English (and Welsh) Premier League in 2011. He previously managed Reading and Watford.

His appointment is unquestionably the most popular since the arrival of fellow Irishman, Martin O’Neill, 16 years ago. Known for his belief in playing attacking, possession-based football, he will bring a force of personality to the club and to Scottish football.

Rodgers occupied the top position on Celtic’s wanted list at the start of the month, but the desire to sign him up was tempered by the belief that attracting a manager of such a profile to Scotland would be difficult. My understanding is that as soon as talks got underway in earnest, it was clear neither party would let the opportunity slip away.

I’m delighted at the appointment. The club already feels reinvigorated.

Welcome to Celtic, Brendan. Let’s get on with the job.

    Quite a thought .

Surely that was not the spur needed to bring about change.

    Surely.

    I beg your pardon?

What I do have to say, is that you appear to be a glass half empty person on a day when our club has set goals that all of our fans have wanted to see. We are all very happy about the direction of travel indicated by this appointment, while some very few others are strangely not. You are one of those.

That is what I have to say. If it is not interesting to you, then that is clearly your problem. Getting a grip might be advisable;)

You would hope not, but had we won I honestly couldn’t see Ronny not being there for the game the morra, could you ?

  25. DD: It would have been great if Clogher Celt had been there. He was pivotal in putting the whole thing together. A true genuine Celt.

The next few years afford us great opportunities to celebrate being Celtic supporters (May 25th 2017), Irish war of Independence 1919 – 1922 etc.

I can’t commit to BMCUWP’s or BRTH’s efforts for Lisboa next year, but if it is at all possible, I will be there.
