Brendan Rodgers appointed Celtic manager

1136

Brendan Rodgers today became the 18th manager in Celtic’s history. Rodgers, 43, managed Liverpool for three years until October, after guiding Swansea to the English (and Welsh) Premier League in 2011. He previously managed Reading and Watford.

His appointment is unquestionably the most popular since the arrival of fellow Irishman, Martin O’Neill, 16 years ago. Known for his belief in playing attacking, possession-based football, he will bring a force of personality to the club and to Scottish football.

Rodgers occupied the top position on Celtic’s wanted list at the start of the month, but the desire to sign him up was tempered by the belief that attracting a manager of such a profile to Scotland would be difficult. My understanding is that as soon as talks got underway in earnest, it was clear neither party would let the opportunity slip away.

I’m delighted at the appointment. The club already feels reinvigorated.

Welcome to Celtic, Brendan. Let’s get on with the job.

  1. A big shout out to Mal Carruthers of Troon who kindly took the time to call the Daily Record Sports Hotline on 5th May to offer his own “insight” on the potential appointment of Brendan Rodgers.

    Mel, if you’re reading….GIRFUY mate.

Mal Carruthers, Troon, said: “The bookies can cut the odds of Brendan Rodgers becoming next Celtic boss as short as they want but we all know there’s more chance of Buck Rodgers getting the job.”

  2. Apparently it’s on Twitter that Scepovic has been sold to Getafe and that Cole has been released. Can’t find it myself but have had a few texts from various ghuys to that effect.

Listening to SSB (I know). This appointment has had the desired effect. The Huns are crapping themselves. BFDJ Is as sick as a parrot. Hugh Keevins (normally hate him) is in his element.

Sitting In Nice airport after a lovely week in France. Haven’t felt this good since Mon rode into town! Well done to all and a big welcome to our new manager!

  5. I have been very critical of DD, PL and the Board but this appointment will galvanise the support.

Well done everyone connected with getting Brendan in.

If all the doubters don’t renew now it begs the question, ‘What do you have to do?’

    HH.

  6. Delighted…….I’d have taken BR or Moyes with equal enthusiasm. No doubt L5 are working overtime to undermine the appointment. Word to the wise – don’t buy the effing Daily Rag tomorrow . I’d even ban the Jodrell Bankers from Monday’s press conference. The world’s press will be there so we don’t need the Daily Rag or Scottish peddlars of codswallop.

Paddy Barclay and Paul Hayward will cover this story to a level of intellectuality that the likes of Jackson ( Jabba’s lapdog ) can only dream about. Welcome to BR who – needless to say – will get a wee song tomorrow beginning with words “cheer up” . But that’s just general 5-a-side banter as the Daily Rag will tell you.

Meantime our politicians will have wax in their ears !

  7. Just seen the local news down here in Lancashire Brendan Rogers appointed manager of Celtic.

    Even reported down here brilliant.

It also might be because he was the manager of Liverpool, but who cares .

Catching up with the comments about the Portland Timbers striker mentioned today and I’ve some tech advice for those wondering about him. Log on to their web-site, before the answers are axed.

  9. Have the feeling Brendan was recruited a while ago.

Squad assessed and needs will be taken care of.

We have a squad thats unbalanced but it does possess a lot of very good footballers.

Very excited to see what he can make of our parts.

SG is a very good shout :-)

Heard the start of SSB and I concur with a few posters, Keevins is as happy as I have ever heard him, gushing he is and bfdj is the polar opposite, magic.

  11. Absolutely delighted with the appointment of Brendan Rodgers so much I reset my password to say so! Great stuff Dermot and all at Celtic making it happen!

I hope all the “fans” who’ve deserted the stands in recent seasons support the new manager and team by buying season books again and filling the place rather than posting on social media how thing’s should be different! Hail Hail

  12. Hurting huns out in force tonight.

A perfectly timed announcement this afternoon has caught them off guard, and they dont like it one bit.

Even some Liverpool fans with hunnic tendencies are getting in on the act.

Delighted Sevilla pumped them on Wednesday. Nae Euro fitba for them next season!

    Feck them!

Big Jock will be loving it!

    HH!!

  18. Welcome to Celtic Football Club Brendan. Only the 18th Manager in 128 years. I feel like a child on Christmas morning. Not a Ball kicked and no guarantees but you play the game the way my all time hero Tommy Burns liked to play. Genuinely excited cannot wait for next Season…bring it on.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

  19. Brendan Rodgers will be officially unveiled at a media conference this Monday, May 23, 2016 at Celtic Park at 4pm and he will then meet supporters at 6pm at the stadium.

  20. Evening folks,

Welcome Brendan, an exceptional appointment, thought he would be out of our reach, but shows ambition from the club. Belt up folks, the good times have arrived back at paradise. Wee trip to the bookies tomorrow to put a bet on the treble for next season.

We have a very talented young squad with lots of potential. My thoughts during the season were if we can get the right manager in and augment with some experienced players we would not be far from being a very good team.

Well we now have the manager in, and although Brendan may have to shift some players on and it might take a transfer window or two to get some experienced players of the calibre I would imagine he would want, by the end of next season I think the team will be transformed.

Looking forward to the Brendan Rodgers experience.
