Brendan takes an early psychological lead

332

I listened to Brendan give due credit to St Mirren at the weekend, and then to the granular analysis of his comment that they were the best Scottish opposition we have faced this season, and recalled an old story.

Archie Macpherson, a good friend of Jock Stein, told me that Jock would make sure he controlled the headlines in the week ahead of playing Rangers. He set the agenda by giving the media ready-made material.

Brendan’s assertion was not fanciful. Whatever has gone on in St Mirren’s season, their recent wins over Hibs and Ayr United, and their performance on at the weekend, they have clearly turned a corner. They were unequivocally better prepared for Celtic Park than most of the Premiership teams who have visited this season. If it was a stretch to say they were the best, at 56 minutes into the game it didn’t feel like one.

Kilmarnock (conceded 6), Motherwell (5), Newco (5), Aberdeen (4) and Hearts (4) were each clueless at Celtic Park this season, so there is a degree of accuracy in manager’s observation.

The Rangers Stein faced is a different proposition entirely from that which Brendan Rodger’s will be up against on Sunday (literally), but Brendan has taken an early psychological lead, whether he needs it or not.

  2. This Sky Sports, has run its course,as has the Sky altogether, same old ,ex players, who didn’t like criticism, when they were playing, but when they are on this second rate programme, they don’t take long to put the knife, into Managers, but very rarely they name players who let’s face it are not good enough,I’m glad I ditched Sky,same old tripe everyday, and as for some of them presenters,?

Huns fail in attempt to get Director of Football target shocker…

Ross Wilson has aged a stormer doubtless earning himself a wee increase in the process.

God knows how many failures Celtic have.. Well God and Peter Lawwell do.. That’s because we don’t put stories out or make comment until deals are delivered.

Huns now looking at 2nd choice candidates. Can’t help but this k same story will unfold on their Portuguese mesiah that nobody has ever heard of..

Then it will be Alex McLeish/Bazza type combo.

  5. My Friends in Celtic,

There is a Continual discussion on CQN regarding the ethos of Celtic.

Today is maybe an appropriate day to express our solidarity and aspiration for Gender equality. The quest continues and we should fight any attempt to derail this.

It is also an appropriate day to express our commitment to protect the most vulnerable in our society. Attacks on the disabled are sick and sad in a civilized society. They must be resisted.

We may have differing views on how to prevent and fight injustice, but I’m sure the ethos of Celtic dictates that we should try.

PS : Rightly or wrongly I cannot wait for Sunday. COYBIG.

  6. I was PMSL last night at the Arsenal post mortem on BT Sport.

Michael Owen bigged up the the EPL by stating “Arsenal are OK beating all the crap teams but they can’t beat the top four”.

He then kinda bizarrely said “our top sides are not playing in the CL this season – Chelsea, Man Utd and Liverpool. Look who we’ve got – Leicester and Spurs – and Man City obviously”.

A wee bit harsh on Spurs I thought.

Interestingly both James Forrest and Phil are both reporting that Celtic and Man City are in talks over Patrick Roberts: either another year on loan or possibly a permanent deal.

    Here’s hoping!
