Brendan takes an early psychological lead

332

I listened to Brendan give due credit to St Mirren at the weekend, and then to the granular analysis of his comment that they were the best Scottish opposition we have faced this season, and recalled an old story.

Archie Macpherson, a good friend of Jock Stein, told me that Jock would make sure he controlled the headlines in the week ahead of playing Rangers. He set the agenda by giving the media ready-made material.

Brendan’s assertion was not fanciful. Whatever has gone on in St Mirren’s season, their recent wins over Hibs and Ayr United, and their performance on at the weekend, they have clearly turned a corner. They were unequivocally better prepared for Celtic Park than most of the Premiership teams who have visited this season. If it was a stretch to say they were the best, at 56 minutes into the game it didn’t feel like one.

Kilmarnock (conceded 6), Motherwell (5), Newco (5), Aberdeen (4) and Hearts (4) were each clueless at Celtic Park this season, so there is a degree of accuracy in manager’s observation.

The Rangers Stein faced is a different proposition entirely from that which Brendan Rodger’s will be up against on Sunday (literally), but Brendan has taken an early psychological lead, whether he needs it or not.

  1. I would imagine that there is more chance of the seats and toilets being available for use on the Sunday rather than if Sevco played on the Saturday.

Jimmynotpaul, Scott has been fantastic for us this season and it would be good if we can keep him for as long as possible.

When I think back on Sunday’s game, one of the reasons for our improvement was Scott getting on the ball more and running at the St Mirren defence.

I think the sevs might double or treble up on him this sunday.

Italian football has been corrupt for many decades .Bribery, match fixing, drugs and violent threats are common place . Its not just Juve . They are just really good at it.

Has that been agreed? All I’ve seen is that he’s turned down a deal at Chelsea.

I heard someone who’d know say it was a couple of weeks ago. It was on the radio down here, I forget who it was now

  8. I realise the number and quality of goals scored by Scott Sinclair should have removed all doubt but I am not as confident in his ability as the majority seem to be. Could some of the more cerebral posters convince me?

    Scott Sinclair?

What does he bring to the club?

He has a cool haircut and a cooler missus.

    He plays good, too.

  13. Hot Smoked – Scott Sinclair is so wonderful, hescores the goals, he’s beautiful, magical. And when he runs down the wing he’s as fast as lightning. And – he makes all the bhoys sing.

2 new signings – Scott and Moussa – and over 50 (fifty) goals between them. Which is nice ;-)

I am pretty sure the problem lies in my lack of football knowledge/perspicacity rather than in any shortcomings in Scott`s game.

“The Rangers Stein faced is a different proposition entirely from that which Brendan Rodger’s will be up against on Sunday (literally), but Brendan has taken an early psychological lead, whether he needs it or not.

Good to see Brendan on the front foot as he he so often is. Though with Sevco firefighting on so many fronts, it’s important more important than ever, that in Footballing terms it’s our narrative to the fore…

I’m with the ghuys who don’t want be over optimistic going into a Glasgow Derby but I find it hard to see past us.

With us being drawn against Sevco in the Scottish Cup Semi, I believe beating them well is imperative and will add a further psychological Advantage.
