Brown launches bid to buy Rangers’ assets

1612

Former Rangers player, John Brown, spoke to Sky Sports this morning outside Ibrox and launched a takeover bid for the former club’s assets.  Yesterday he resigned as a scout for the company before urging Rangers fans not to renew their season tickets.

In an interview reminiscent of a memorable scene from Blazing Saddles, Brown told Sky:

“If [the fans]invest, we’ll setup a bank account that all the season ticket money can go in there, and we can guarantee that we will buy this club over from this regime because it’s coming back into Rangers hands.

“Gone are the days, of the, the money that we spent.  It’s going to be handled differently this time.  The fans are going to buy it over.  We have the backing from powerful people who are going to invest, but the fans will invest, and they’ll offer Charles Green, if he says he’s got the title deeds in his name, we’ll make an offer, once we see the hidden letters, any deeds that have been done in the past, if there’s any stumbling blocks, where’s Ticketus in all this, we’ll deal with that, once we see the title deeds, of this stadium, that I was proud to play for, in a number of years through nine-in-a-row, and we’re going to get our club back, but we need a bit of honesty from Charles Green.”

Reports that after hearing Brown, Charlie Nicholas is worried for his analyst position with the broadcaster, have not been confirmed.

Some rousing endorsement of “Bomber” from FF:

“As a consortium frontman, he does seem a bit industrious, just a common man like you or I, a bit thick even, but I don’t think there is any doubting his passion for the Rangers and I would much rather get behind Bomber than Charles Green or some of the other chancers that have or tried to own us.”

    ———————

“I have never met or spoke to John Brown but i have watched him play for Rangers many many times,My thoughts on him while playing for Rangers was that if he lost a leg he would be the kind of person to say thats ok i will play on as i still have another leg,I trust him and would back him 100%,”

    ———————

“John Brown will do for me. Brains are not needed at the moment, itsd fighting spirit we lack [have to disagree there]- We needed a figurehead and someone who loves the club as much as any fan and now we’ve got him.

I always remember him at the end of the title decider in 1991 dancing on crutches after having gone off injured [I take it he must have lost both legs then] – Thats the sort of guts and pride he will bring to this fight.”

  3. It must be hard for the plethora of potential buyers trying to pick a frontman from the cesspit of ex players.

I’m looking forward to Durrant’s turn and possibly a guest appearance from Michaelichenko who looks as if he may have a wicked, dry sense of humour.

This saga has to be the funniest thing I have ever watched.

After reading Browns statement yesterday a thought occured to me.

If Green produces the title deeds to Ib*ox and any “hidden” letters, who will read them to brown?

I am assuming from the rambling, nonsensical, statements he made yesterday that the man is illiterate.

    I blame protestant schools!

  5. Morning folks,

The report from the BBC on the protest at Ibrox has a singular quote from Brown, from earlier in the day

“We don’t want to buy in with Charles Green. The Rangers fans are going to buy out Charles Green’s consortium.”

They must have been scouring through the videos to find a coherent sentence, pity they left out all the bile, the threats, and, of course, the “you buy the pies !”

They also failed to mention the effigies strung up on the fence, only mentioning the protest banners.

A TV deal with Sky. The whole raison d’etre of Scottish football.

Not development of the game, not putting the best product we can on the park, not a league structure that has a degree of integrity and most certainly not what the supporters of the game want, just a TV deal with Sky. Nothing else matters.

  8. Statement from Saundy on the Official (Still Rangers after all these years) Site

“SANDY JARDINE has reiterated that there is no break Rangers’ long and illustrious history.

Fans have been angered by jibes from some quarters and completely ill-informed reporting that there is a ‘new’ Rangers and the ‘old’ one has ceased to exist.

Jardine said: “It’s a lot of nonsense that our history does not carry on. There are a lot of other fans out there saying that we are a new club but that’s not the case.

“We never worried about what other supporters said in the past and we shouldn’t worry about what other supporters say now.

“What matters is what Rangers supporters think.

“We are a club with 140 years of history and next year we will be a club with 141 years of history.

“If and when we win another Championship flag we will add it to the 54 we already have.”

Speaking on RangersTV, Jardine said: “Whatever league we will be playing in we will still be playing in the same stadium, we will still be playing in a blue shirt.

“We will have the same supporters and the same staff. Nothing has changed and people have to realise that.

“We have a Hall of Fame board recognising our greatest players and I have no doubt that in the future other players will be added to it and they will be delighted to be among greats like Davie Meiklejohn, George Young and John Greig.

“This fallacy that our history has ended is just banter from other supporters and some of our fans have taken the bait. They should just ignore it.

“We have a rich history – Barcelona, Nine in a Row, 54 league titles – are we going to forget that? I don’t think so.”

What we need is some modern day equivalent of Samuel Johnson to kick something and shout “I refute it thus” at Saundy’s modern day reproduction of Bishop Berkeley’s discredited subjective idealism. Since Johnson kicked a stone, I would suggest that modern day refuters should go for the middle man and kick Saundy in the stones.

  21. OK, so Broadfoot has returned to Sevco for training. Naismith et al refused to move to Sevco – they were roundly condemned by the huns. Barrack O’Bomber condemns Sevco and says no-one should get involved with them.

So do the huns now support or condemn Broadfoot? Confused – yes they are!

    Promotion for three whistlers

    « backall articles »

    Wednesday 27th June 2012

The SFA Referee Committee has promoted three referees to the top level of the game with Category 2 whistlers Andrew Dallas, Kevin Graham and Don Robertson all reaching the top level of the game.

Dallas is the son of the Hampden body’s former Head of Refereeing Development, Hugh Dallas and along with Graham and Robertson he has already gained experience after handling games in the SFL last season as part of their development.

    Fun times ahead.
