Brown launches bid to buy Rangers’ assets

1612

Former Rangers player, John Brown, spoke to Sky Sports this morning outside Ibrox and launched a takeover bid for the former club’s assets.  Yesterday he resigned as a scout for the company before urging Rangers fans not to renew their season tickets.

In an interview reminiscent of a memorable scene from Blazing Saddles, Brown told Sky:

“If [the fans]invest, we’ll setup a bank account that all the season ticket money can go in there, and we can guarantee that we will buy this club over from this regime because it’s coming back into Rangers hands.

“Gone are the days, of the, the money that we spent.  It’s going to be handled differently this time.  The fans are going to buy it over.  We have the backing from powerful people who are going to invest, but the fans will invest, and they’ll offer Charles Green, if he says he’s got the title deeds in his name, we’ll make an offer, once we see the hidden letters, any deeds that have been done in the past, if there’s any stumbling blocks, where’s Ticketus in all this, we’ll deal with that, once we see the title deeds, of this stadium, that I was proud to play for, in a number of years through nine-in-a-row, and we’re going to get our club back, but we need a bit of honesty from Charles Green.”

Reports that after hearing Brown, Charlie Nicholas is worried for his analyst position with the broadcaster, have not been confirmed.

I suppose it was no fun for any of the Dirty Dozen as they turned up at a dreich Murray Park this morning…. But how must a Dungannon boy called HEGARTY have felt when he realised where he was.

    God help you, son.

  2. I’m in sunny Turkey at the moment and have only intermittent internet access. Now that the Euros are down to the last three teams, and the transfer window is neary open, have Rangers (in administration/liquidation/oldco/newco/dead parrot/permanent embarassment) announced any signings from their transfer target list of players from the Euros?

If not, for the sake of transparency, i think we have a right to know. Is it

    a) because those players play in one of the remaining three teams (I knew that Iniesta always had a funny look about him)

    b) Bomber Brown has run away with the list and is keeping it secret for when his fans takeover is in place (the same fans who have repeatedly failed to put a penny of their own money in, or to even show a glimmer of protest in recent months – for pete’s sake, i pledged more than some of their own fans did!)

    c) Perhaps is was total crap and reported unchallenged by a media so desparate to have a United Hun of Govan team back in any shape or form

I think we should be told!

    Valid point from KDS;

Are there really those of you naive enough to think that Scottish football could be restructured under Celtic’s noses without their input? These leaked proposals are coming from the SFA, it’s “Professional Game Board” consists of:

Rod Petrie (who seems to have managed to put a price on integrity after all)

    Peter Lawwell

    Alan McRae, Cove Rangers president

Sandy Stables, Highland League honorary president

Jim Ballantyne, Scottish Football League president, chairman of Airdrie (and recently pictured in “Rangers Fighting Fund” gear at Linfield v huns friendly)

    Stewart Regan

    Neil Doncaster (oh dear)

    David Longmuir, SFL chief exec.

    Campbell Ogilvie (wtf!)

Ralph Topping, think he’s resigned, not sure if replaced?

  4. If the SFA et al think this shows that they are being “radical” then they are fooling no one.

This is quite simply a safety net to catch Sevco as they fall.

And isn’t it convenient that part of the proposals include 3 play off spots in Division 1, the SPL paying £1 million for Sevco tv rights, bigger parachute payments to relegated clubs (such as Sevco). And not one mention of tax debts or dual contracts. You’d almost imagine an ex-Rangers director was President of the SFA……

    Stinks to high heaven.

It is not possible to become a full member of the SFL until you have done four years as an associate member

You are right about the gravy train, but nobody seems keen to get off it. Every time someone speaks of reform, or restructure, we have to ask, who at the SFA, the SPL or the SFL is sacrificing their jobs. Takes a lot of people to organise a fixture list if you ask me!

JamesForrest 12.09 Your article is spot on I have said for months that Scottish football is at the crossroads and either it will do the right thing and support integrity and it has a chance of a fresh start.Or it will choose the choice of cheats and tax dodgers and in my opinion it will be finished like you I and I would think many thousands of other football fans will walk away from the game taking there money with them.H.H.

The problem is you seem to be living in a fantasy land where everyone will embrace one another as Rangers are gone and have taken all societys and footballs ills with them.

This doesn’t take into account the treatment of Celtic fans at the majority of away grounds, Hearts fans turning their back on the minutes applause for Jock Stein, Neil Lennon being victimised by supporters of a lower league club during a Scottish cup tie at Celtic Park(what had he ever done to offend them?!),HIBS fans jeering the Fields of Atenry(!), and so on.

I say we keep supporting Celtic passionately but lets not expect a big love in with the rest.

    It ain’t going to happen.

  9. @edwardrice1: These proposals aren’t about ensuring New Club go to div 1, they are about SFA/SFL/SPL recognising New Club can claim RFC(IL) history

The Rangers situation is being used by those in power to force through league reconstruction. Rangers merely the pawn in bigger picture.

You get paid to write this nonsense!!

  11. sixtaeseven: No NewClub in SPL and it's Non-Negotiable! on

Would UEFA allow this (if it has any truth in it)?

  12. That BBC report contains too much detail to be baseless.

Peter Lawwell presumably knows what’s being planned.

I wonder if Paul67 could ask him what’s going on so he could let us all know.

  13. @krys1888: And now we know why the SFA demanded Green get the Sevco application in by Friday. Need to relegate “Rangers” before Wednesday

Just caught up with Bombers incomprehensible story about deeds and phone calls ….. If he phoned up Clyde , old Jimmy S would have summed it up neatly ” what is you point caller?”

Can it get any lower for the Shame, still the predictable splits and factions are now emerging amongst a semi- literate support, the guys with half a brain will chuck it and go play golf.

    Notlongnowcfc

  15. This nonsense will never happen, the fixtures have been printed and agreed.

It is just a piece of crap from the BBC to try and boost the huns after 5 first team and 8 reserves showed up for training today.

There is no rangers to relegate. They have to apply to the SPL to transfer their share. The SPL have said NO! They now have to apply to the SFL.

There will not be a team playing out of Ibrox in Div 1 next season. Wish some people on here would take a deep breath before they post, some are looking for anything to be ingidnant about

They would have to be voted in by approx 75% of Scottish League clubs, the ones that have spoken have roundly rejected the idea, I expect the majority of the rest to follow suit. There is absolutely nothing at this stage to suggest otherwise…

This isn’t even taking into account the unlikelyhood of them being able to put a team together in the next four weeks..

Sit back and enjoy the show ffs…..

This is the exact same proposal that Broadfoot was critical massing about two weeks ago.

Why is it being rehashed today is the question ?

    Public safety.

  18. hen1rik

That is a very good point.

This story is the same rubbish the BBC have been pushing for, get Newclub a league, as high up as possible, they’ve failed to get them into the SPL and will now try for Div1, failing that they’ll try for Div2, then 3.

Only when the league kicks off and there are no games at Ibroke will the BBC stop this nonsense, although they will still link Newclub with Messi etc.

Just checked out the BBC website re the plans being hatched to accommodate Zombie F.C into Division 1and note that Mr sporting integrity himself Rod Petrie is involved. I’m sure if this is untrue he will speak out.

I think the time has come for Celtic to let the fans know what their thoughts are on this issue.

If Celtic meekly accept this reorganisation of our (the fans) game to suit the rotting corpse of one club then I will assume that they agree to it and they can do so without my money.

  21. Yep, one of those tweets from earlier hit the nail on the head imo.

This is all counter-propaganda against the Brown charade of yesterday, which came as a result of the penny dropping with some of them. Just a bit more confuscation to tide the hoardes over until D-day.
