Brown launches bid to buy Rangers’ assets

1612

Former Rangers player, John Brown, spoke to Sky Sports this morning outside Ibrox and launched a takeover bid for the former club’s assets.  Yesterday he resigned as a scout for the company before urging Rangers fans not to renew their season tickets.

In an interview reminiscent of a memorable scene from Blazing Saddles, Brown told Sky:

“If [the fans]invest, we’ll setup a bank account that all the season ticket money can go in there, and we can guarantee that we will buy this club over from this regime because it’s coming back into Rangers hands.

“Gone are the days, of the, the money that we spent.  It’s going to be handled differently this time.  The fans are going to buy it over.  We have the backing from powerful people who are going to invest, but the fans will invest, and they’ll offer Charles Green, if he says he’s got the title deeds in his name, we’ll make an offer, once we see the hidden letters, any deeds that have been done in the past, if there’s any stumbling blocks, where’s Ticketus in all this, we’ll deal with that, once we see the title deeds, of this stadium, that I was proud to play for, in a number of years through nine-in-a-row, and we’re going to get our club back, but we need a bit of honesty from Charles Green.”

Reports that after hearing Brown, Charlie Nicholas is worried for his analyst position with the broadcaster, have not been confirmed.

Read the statement on what Rangers need to “accept” as well.

Totally agree with you re Sandy Jardine. He has made such an idiot of himself with his comments today, trying to appease the uneducated newco masses with a populist statement. He is hurting big time and totally in denial that EVERY game and trophy he won with oldco are ALREADY consigned to history, never to be added to.

    For SJ to say

“It’s a lot of nonsense that our history does not carry on. There are a lot of other fans out there saying that we are a new club but that’s not the case. We never worried about what other supporters said in the past and we shouldn’t worry about what other supporters say now. What matters is what Rangers supporters think.”

So Sandy, what matter is what Rangers supporters think? Well Sandy if you keep telling your own support lies that’s what they will believe! Stop lying, come out of denial, and get it right up ye!

Allowing for the fact that many of us have differing political views, was there ever a better time to be a Celtic supporter?

“All changes have to be approved by SPL and SFL clubs over the next few days. The plans require the support of eight SPL clubs and a majority of SFL clubs to be passed.”

I somehow doubt the fans of the SPL clubs who have been villified, abused and threatened by the hun hordes since forcing their chairmen to say “no to newco” will be any more open to the newco in the ‘first division’.

Can’t see this being passed by the required number of clubs, but, stranger things have happened / have yet to happen.

Thank you for the voice of reason.

  24. £1m+ payment to Newco… if, as seems to be the tone of the proposal, their demise is redefined as a mere relegation. Scandal. Proposal is compromised from the beginning if a ‘club’ can start in the second-top tier of the pyramid.

  25. The BBC are regurgitating an old story

The SFL clubs are going to kill this plan stone dead. For a start, the SFL clubs are not voting next week. They are meeting to discuss the proposals

There won’t even be a NewCo playing football next season anyway

  26. So how on earth are they going to gerrymander Sevco into Div 1?

No mechanism exists to relegate the dead carcass and allow Sevco to possess it.

No mechanism or rule exists to allow a brand new club direct access to Tier 2 of Scottish football.

How are they going to dress this up?

  27. Snake Plissken on

Perhaps those calling for Celtic to make a statement on no to newco as the other clubs did were premature (me included).

If the chairmen of the SPL clubs knew full well that a sinister rescue package was being hatched by Doncaster and Regan (with Ogilvie’s hand no doubt involved) then it became easier to line up and say no to newco as they’d been given guarantees.

The 1M going to them or to the SFL to be shared around?

3 teams in division 1 to contest play-offs just in case newco are dreadful and with the lack of players around to play for them they just might be – craven gerrymandering to ensure they get up by hook or by crook.

All is not lost. The SFL clubs can stop this dead and Livingston alone should be priming their lawyers.

The battle was over but the war goes on.

I can understand what you say as I spent a few years playing in the same team as Andy Goram whilst in England.

At that time Andy did not have a clue about anything Scottish or anywhere else and was a good laugh and decent person in my eye.

Only after he ended up at Ibrox did I see a change in him which just proves that deep down they are teaching the new recruits to behave in such a way, because believe me Andy Goram knew nothing about Ireland prior to his stay at them.

When I see him now I feel sorry for him as he was never going win any prizes for being the smartest but he has crossed the line but I believe through others teaching him their rotten ways.

Hopefully now that is a thing of the past.

I have supported Celtic’s silence to date.

If they think this will be voted through, then, unless the club publicly state otherwise, they must be in agreement with the proposal.

Either way, if this plan goes ahead, this should lead to a fan revolt demanding our planned resignation from the land of the hun.

If they rush through reconstruction now, it might all be in vain. There may not be a newclub, the ‘vacancy’ created will have to be filled and when the dark forces eventually regroup there will be no space for them without yet another reconstruction.

If they bide their time and plan this for next year, they can accommodate a new Rangers, if one exists, while at the same time pretending that there is some integrity in the scottish game.
