Brozek in Glasgow chess game. Check.

1155

Two years ago I had a memorable journey from one end of Poland to the other, mostly in silent prayer that our man from Poland would slow down, to check out a few footballers, including Wisla Krakow striker, Pawel Brozek, who obliged with a goal.

Pawel has played mostly as a lone striker, he can hold the ball up and bring others into the game.  He’s not a particularly tricky player but he has good positional sense inside the box.  His move to Trabzonspor last year hasn’t worked out well as he has played back up to scoring sensation, Burak Yilmaz, who is averaging better than a goal per game in the league this season.  Brozek’s record at Wisla was comparable to Maciej Zurawski, who he replaced as top striker in the league.

The Polish CQN brigade told me Celtic should move for Pawel and his twin brother before Trabzonspor signed them.  When news leaked that Pawel was a target to replace ex-Rangers player (too soon?) Nikica Jelavic our man in Poland suggested he would pick up a lot of points for Rangers in the SPL.

If he comes to Celtic on a six month loan both parties will have plenty of opportunity to figure out if there is long term fit.  In the meantime, should Pawel arrive we have someone to put pressure on Gary Hooper and Anthony Stokes and the Cheeky Chappie will have to consider his next move (again, too soon?).

On the subject of Jelavic….  Remember in August 2010 when we were told he “effectively went on strike” to engineer his escape from Rapid Vienna after the player declared he wasn’t able to face Aston Villa?  I hear he’s unable to play against Hibs this afternoon.

Another d would have made it nearer the mark (oddtim)just about correct,I would say.

Blantyretim seems to be getting a bit off hassle tonight,is he lagered up,and causing trouble?.

  2. RTC gave Tom English a doing on Twitter this evening.

Tom said there was lots he’d like to say about the Rangers situation but wasn’t able to do so because he had to show the legal team at the Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday that the burden of proof was sufficiently in his favour. He said bloggers didn’t have this problem.

RTC nuked him by pointing out that this didn’t mean Tom English had to print PR-led pro-Rangers garbage instead. In other words, if he couldn’t say what he wanted to say about Rangers, he at least should have held back from saying what Rangers wanted him to say.

  3. If my memory serve’s me right, we have always made it a difficult fixture, when playing Falkirk in the Cup,however, I would stress that we have the big pitch in our favour, and we have been pretty consistent, personally I think we should win comfortably, but we will have to be at our best, as we know what has happened in the past, whats your thought’s folks.

We do spank most of the teams most of the time. We have lost the last three leagues by four points, six points and one point respectively. Ask any Celtic fan and he or she will be able to point to games in which point-losses of those magnitudes in the respective seasons are entirely, entirely attributable to appalling refereeing decisions that either favour Rangers directly or favour other opponents of Celtic.

There are no exceptions to this.

Celtic would have won each of those championships if the club had put itself seriously into debt to acquire the extra talent required to overcome the cheating. You could argue just as convincingly that Celtic should and would have won each title if the cheating hadn’t taken place.

The Hampden groundsmen will be re-doing the lines to narrow the pitch as we speak.

I doubt it will be a breeze, Elvis will have his team hyped up and they will go for it.

I think as ever the cream will rise to the top, all I ask for is a fair referee.

Papa John…….we have another GREAT MAN at the helm now….. and they don’t like it !!!!!

Blantyre tim…..of course there are games we should have won, but didn’t win…..that happens to every team, every season….it’s the games we didn’t win for ‘non-footballing reasons’ that made the (intended) difference……the great thing is that their collusion has brought them all down…..

I remember one Champions league night, when I had visitors and when Marseilles? scored against them in the last minute, I had to leave the room (house) to let out a roar……I remember thinking “this is a big loss for them”….I was right…they started down the road to ruin that night…..remember??……..that was the moment (by the way , everyone was laughing at me when I ‘slipped back into the room’……LOL…!!!…….I will NEVER forget that night

yes i agree, these factors did not help. Neither did pash tactics, a factor which is often overlooked. We always have a torrid time up in the far north, purely down to dodgy refs? or the wrong decisions and lethargy from our management and players? perhaps both?

Not withstanding these factors which blighted even the greats, the undue influence of the MIB’s both anti CFC and pro RFC easily outweighs the tactical /loss of form / wrong team arguments!!! My God (and Im an atheist to boot) even them have had loss of form tactics etc! FFS you are proposing a non argument!

A level playing field we’d be the team on seven-in-a-row at the moment!!!

    Kojo,

Are the young Celts on the verge of greatness?

    Some of the young talent at Celtic must be among the best in Europe. I believe we have a number of world class performers an all for two bob a week;

Fraser Forster – One of the top two keepers in UK?

Issi – Best left back in UK?

Rogne – Has the potential of Vidic

    Mulgrew – Young Rio Ferdinand?DINAND

James Forest – outstanding winger in UK?

Victor Wanayama – Outstanding defensive midfielder ?

Hooper – not in the class of the above, but very good.

Settle down young man and enjoy the future, the past is gone let it go.

Has it been raining in Glasgow today lads?

Just thought the pitch at Hampden might cut-up a lot tomorrow after two hours of football on it today.

  24. Bhoys ,

Just havin a read back at the last couple of pages of posts where

the ICT collapse of last season is discussed.

Yes , we blew it , but what I recall is that this was the 4th ? last game , we knew

we had to win all of these cup finals , we lost that one , everyone in Scotland then knew it

was all over , there was no way der hun were gonnae drop any points , no way !!!

    Sad but true.

Hope they go down the tubes..
