Celtic’s January 2012 transfer window

916

Michael Lustig arrived early on a pre-contract from Rosenborg.  A right back as tall as the North Stand he is one of the most curious signings we’ve made in a while, considering the strength we have in that position.

Rabiu Ibrahim, past-wonder-kid of African football, came in after negotiating an end to an unproductive stay in Eindhoven.  I hear lots about Ibrahim’s ability but Celtic will have to find a way of turning that into a productive force in the SPL, something PSV were unable to do in the Netherlands.

Polish international striker, Pawel Brozek, arrived on load from Trabzonspor, where he spent most of last year at the side of the pitch.  Pawel is an experienced pro who is likely to enjoy his time in the SPL.  He’ll keep the front pairing of Abbot and Costello on their toes, neither of whom will be certain of retaining their place.

Young players, Paul Slane, James Keatings and Lewis Toshney went out on loan to MK Dons, St Johnstone and Kilmarnock respectively, which Josh Thompson continued his tour of English towns and cities by heading to Chesterfield for 6 months.  None were likely to make more than cameo appearances this season, all will benefit from the career development opportunity.

Throughout the month I ignored stories that we would sell our prime first-team assets, Hooper, Stokes, Samaras, Forrest, Commons, Ki, McCourt and Matthews were all linked with clubs in England and offers were received for six of the above, but who in their right mind would sell top players in January when you are in a nip –and-tuck race for the title?

Your post makes sense to me—-

I watched Sunday night’s flagship national tele Serie A highlights program.

The pundits /experts spent some time discussing the transfer market / the crisis and the future of football. One of the pundits raised the issue of how UEFA’s Financial Fair Play policy might affect things——

Cue agreement that the big boys would simply ignore UEFA and set up their own competition.. It was also claimed that there was nothing to stop the big boys registering a set of players to play in UEFA competitions whilst another set of players played in the big boys /big money competition.

I have heard similar things being said on Italian National Radio.

Italian football pundits / journalists etc are never reluctant to point out that those Financial Fair Play boys at UEFA punished Sion far more severely than they punished Chelsea / Roma and Manchester City -to name but three.

Warm and sunny -lovely day -way down south

For me that £25M was just a clear marker for what Craig Whyte expects to walk away with post collapse. I don’t think the £26M will be added to the existing £18M. It’ll have been used to cover and provide the additional operating capital required with the £7M being reclaimed through liquidation. Unless of course he really has found some way to hide it and he will somehow try and claim £25M out of the liquidation. I can’t see how that would be possible though.

They seem to be suggesting that in and out of administration this season with a maximum 10 point deduction being the only sanction against them. Humouring then for the moment, and forgiving my financial / legal ignorance, but if this is caused by them losing the big tax case and therefore being proven to have cheated over the last decade, is there the possibility that once they are out of administration, Celtic take up a civil case against der hun for loss of earnings from the CL??? If successful…. putting them right back into administration with us as the major creditor?

What is Grant Thornton’s liability in all of the shenanigans at R*ngers? Do they not need to sign off that the accounts show a true and fair view, and have they not done so for all the years of the EBT? If they are not signing off on the audit this year without questioning the Going Concern of Rangers based on the outcome of the big tax case, do they not have some liability around the fact that they missed the irregularities of the EBT and the second contracts that were in existence for the last decade.

Was dodgy Sir Dave pulling the wool over Grant Thornton’s eyes for years, or were they too busy brown-nosing Minty Moonbeams trying to get all of his business after Arthur Andersen crashed that they didn’t want to upset the apple cart?

If I was a hun or a shareholder in the huns I’d be asking these questions. Fortunately I’m not, so feck em! Oh the R*ngers are sh**e!

“The desire to get something for nothing has been very costly to many people who have dealt with me and with other con men.” “But I have found that this is the way it works. The average person, in my estimation, is ninety-nine per cent animal and one per cent human. The ninety-nine per cent that is animal causes very little trouble. But the one per cent that is human causes all our woes. When people learn — as I doubt they will — that they can’t get something for nothing, crime will diminish and we shall live in greater harmony.”

Celtic would never be able to prove that if Rangers had operated as a normal club that they wouldn’t have won those titles anyway. So no I doubt they’d take it to any form of court.

  9. “We can’t hold an AGM until the accounts are signed off,” Whyte has said. Probably fair enough on its own, but it leads to two other questions:

    1. When will the accounts be signed off?

    2. Why is there a delay in this happening?

I suspect that the answers are simply that the auditor is unwilling, for obvious reasons, to state that there are no future financial issues and that the club can be seen as a going concern. So unless they win the tax case (and even then there would be questions) or an extremely daft auditor can be persuaded to do the necessary, nothing will change.

Whyte is playing for time. There is no long term plan because there is no long term.

I said yesterday that – I thought DM had, planted CW into Ibrokes to get DM’s £50million back ?

I still don’t know the best way to explain this but, where is all the ‘missing’ money going ?

I also said yesterday that – The huns would be saved by a, secret handshake ?

I base the secret handshake theory on the fact that, as I’ve said often enough on here………

Scotland IS the huns, the huns ARE Scotland!!!

Anyone who can’t/won’t see this is living in cloud cuckoo land! IMO!

This is HUN country and, THEY will always be here. They’re not going away!

We/Celtic fans will always be looked upon as being a threat, to they’re supremacy! IMO!

So, imo, the governmemt/establishment will ensure that, the establishment team will always be here in an attempt to keep us in our place so to speak!

Thats why, Celtic FC and us/the fans will always be championing the cause of the underdog/ethnic community against the, 124 years of ‘INSTITUTIONAL CORRUPTION! IMO!

    Hail! Hail!

P.S. Too many IMO’s in my opinion :¬))

  15. Good old MSM – the Herald can still write an article saying that transfer windows being open is bad for Celtic (lose Hooper and/or Stokes) but good for Rangers (get McKay off the wage bill) despite the fact they also say that the Jelly money is to pay bills for a few months which is likely not enough to stave off admin before the season is out.

If only the MBB had some other assets (Davis, McGregor, Edu, CBs?) that those Russians might buy he might get enough readies to see the season out? Yet not a mention that this is even a possibility.

Good to see the positive spin is still in action – means more chance that they will stagger on long enough for the FTT verdict.

    Morning. how are you ?

Re the issue around “going concern” ,it’s my understanding that they’ll have to move to quarterly reporting. Surely we’re getting close to the point that even that won’t matter ? Another week or so and the ‘first’ quarterly report will be required in mid-may , i.e. end of season anyway.

SOT – maybe that’s why wee Lenny has built up such a mahoosive squad! :-)

I’m too cynical and there’s loads of examples of how UEFA treat clubs differently, depending on which national football association they play under. English clubs used to get a raw deal from UEFA compared to their Spanish & Italian equivalents, but with the EPL becoming the biggest league in the world they would appear to have more clout now.

I like the noises coming out of the German clubs, particularly Bayern (in Munchen!) in support of FFP, but the greedy clubs in England/Spain/Italy will scupper Platini’s grand plan.

Either way, change is good for Glasgow Celtic….and the timing could be perfect for leaving behind our toxic twin!
