Celtic 0-0 Hibernian

1111

Celtic surrendered another two points to fall further behind in the championship race, drawing 0-0 at home against Hibernian.  It was a unorganised looking performance from the home team who gave Graham Stack little to do in the Hibernian goal.

Gary Hooper squandered Celtic’s only gilt-edged chance of the game when, after playing a one-two with Anthony Stokes, he struck the outside of the post with Ki available for the square pass.  Anthony Stokes had earlier tested Stack, who failed to hold the ball but did enough to clear.

When the same teams met on Wednesday James Forrest transformed the game when he drifted inside but he spent most of today’s game adrift on the right wing.  On two occasions he cut inside with purpose, once testing Stack with a blistering shot from 22 yards and later when a 25 yard pile-drive struck the crossbar, but Hibs were content to limit Celtic to such speculative efforts.

Neil Lennon was justified in his criticism of his front pairing of Stokes and Hooper today but Celtic were equally clueless in midfield.  There appeared to be no cohesion and there was certainly not a productive match plan.

Motherwell’s away win in Inverness gives the Lanarkshire side a three point lead, having played a game more, going into next week’s crucial game against Celtic at Fir Park.  Manager-less St Johnstone dropped three points at home this afternoon, leaving them four points behind Celtic in the fight for the last Europa League place.

This is where we are people, scrapping between Motherwell and St Johnstone. Get used to it.

    The Honest mistake

I’m not one for conspiracy theories but he challenged the whole team at times last year (didn’t he stop them getting off the plane after a euro match), he expected players to ‘challenge’ refs and if the players were lazy he’d let them know. All that’s gone, after bullets and bombs, McCoist and Spit the Dog and the endless news reports from Sky; a running, clearly visible thug getting through the stewards at Hearts and encitment to hatred by the Daily Record. I’m not saying Lennie’s perfect but his one strength has been strangled out of him. That strength was that every player would know how important it is to beat Motherwell or Hibs or Aberdeen. Does ferguson get the same treatment when he goes nuts or Smyth or Wenger when he openly lies ?

I could be just clutching at straws; the obvious explanation could be injuries aswell. We only got going last year when everybody was available.

Your post pretty much sums it up for me. Worth adding a couple of things also: the Edinburgh jury and that “verdict”. Also, how would that affect players who came here unaware of the Shame. Given all the above and this, it might go some way to explain why there seems to a be a motivation problem with some of the team.

I really fear for our Club’s future in this place. It’s the 21st Cent, yet everything (the football, the country, the bigotry and attitudes) has regressed in a way that it will take at least 2 generations to repair -and there’s no signs of even a start, rather the opposite.

Celtic’s only hope is to get out of here. Some kind of Northern Europe league has to be the only way forward.

I was hounded from rtc last week for being a hun, some of the twats there think they are a cut above us mere plebs who frequent supporters blogs, all I did was ask what happens if the hun gets away with it, Q mayhem and hysteria, just like on here sometimes.

Trust me, I’m no a hun.

  6. What is this?…some kinda cosy wee social networking site,or a CELTIC FOOTBALL commentary site! I’m ragin’ at our shite performances…are we Celtic F.C. or a lazy bastards retirement fund? It’s gettin’ ridiculous…our players seem to show up on an ad hoc basis,i.e. they’ll perform when it suits them,or not, depending on mood.

The Govan Orcs must be cackling with glee. They’re strolling away with the SPL,doing as they see fit in every arena, and when we should be hammering them, giving them a run for their non- existent money, what are we doing? Fuck all, that’s what we’re doing. It’s a disgrace. Any old team looks forward to coming to our ground cos our team has lost its pride. Yeah,I’m justifiably angry & sorely disappointed. But I’m just a mere fan,of no consequence, and of the remotest importance to the club I love. That’s just the way it is these days….I can only hope it all changes, and the sooner the better.

  7. Other teams know the score when they play us, It’s plain to see.

How often did Hibs players just hit the deck and get the free kick?

No saying thats why we drew, but still…

  8. Gordon64

We are more than just a Football Club mate.

I am hurting today but I certainly wont turn my back on them.

I just hope and pray that Neil and the players can turn this round.

I write things down so if I need help, I can recall, but the wife keeps tidying things away, this may not sound like a big deal, but trust me when I tell you, she tidys things away and she can’t remember where she has put the things.

I have a special place where is my special place, and things in my special place get moved cos they are not tidy, getting the picture :>)

I love it, an adventure every day.

  10. Bloke109 is neil lennon 23.22………average age 22.63 is no excuse for todays showing as you start playing football from 5 year onwards….some of those guys out there today were gutless and spineless…..if you havent got it at 22 then you havent got it….lets not forget some of those signings wouldnt have been lennys,….as for some of the eejits with their replacement recommendations…go on name them ?????

  11. Lads I know at this moment you ain’t interested in the scum but these tweets about pre pack is this meaning they start a fresh and they only get a 10 point deduction no name change etc.

  12. JimmyQuinnsBits on

    Hurtin bad,

When we all said we support Neil, this shouldn’t be a conditional thing. We were all enthusiastic – that shouldn’t be lost just because times are difficult. Its called integrity.

Celtic, over the last hundred or so years, and over the next, will win, and lose, and draw – scaling heights and falling into mediocrity at times.

Difficult as this is to swallow at this point in time, its not how we win, but how we behave regardless of the result. This is more than a club and that, for me, means more than results, or titles, or trophies – because those things will be won and missed.

This is not easy to say… but I would rather we lost the league and gave Neil our consistent support, than be a hypocrite, He knows us, he’s one of us, and he’ll leave if he feels he can’t achieve our dreams.

    Until then, he’s my chief.

We’re bigger than football, we have a whole set of cultures behind us, one of which is encapsulated in this

Envy you out there, been toying with idea of buying somewhere in Spain, speak to you about it another time, bed is calling!!

    I’m with you pal.

    Let’s stand strong.

We are the greatest fans in the world.

  15. Does anyone else thinlk that Lenny might be showing the real, understandable reaction to working in a country where you can get assualted in front of millions of television viewers yet your assialant walks free from court? How would any of us feel if we were assaulted at work, in front of witnesses, yet nothing happened to our assailant (and don’t ANYONE say that the guy wasn’t let off!!). How could we continue to do our work to the best of our ability? Lenny sounded sooooo flat himself in the post-match interview – how can he get the players to play to the highest level if he himself is not working to the high level he was at last season?

  16. The fans who called Clyde tonight are a disgrace and Delahunt and dalziel said they don’t want anyone sacked but it’s a results driven business.

These people are tools and whatever happened to our great fans supporting Neil through the bad times.

Fed Up Reading about them when we Have Numptys playing for Us.. Hooper & Stokes cost us the League last Year.. Could Not score against the Diddy Teams.. Still Can’t..

  18. I don’t know if its already been said but today out team chuck it. Chucked it as we’ve seen so many inept celtic teams do over the years.

Only the most blinkered among us could argue otherwise.

We’ve seen titanic efforts in the league and europe go unrewarded but, on those occasions, do we complain about our team being posted missing?

We all know what a team being posted missing looks like and means. Our team is not clocking in.

Many great Celtic teams have lost at ibrox to rangers, dropped all points at tynecastle and dropped points at home to hibs but the great teams showed grit and turned things around.

I see no grit and from many players and i see players accepting defeat. Give the ball to someone eles and its not my fault…

What the players and management must understand is that we have seen this before and we do not accept this. However, i fear the message coming from the PLC is that failure is ok as long as the numbers look good.

We have cheats and cowards in our team.

We have a board happy with second place.

What are we to do about both these issues?

  19. Summi. Sailing. Sounds better than my day

    Painting

It was you that came up with our goalscorers in last 10 years

Showing quite clearly that you need 20+ goalscorers to win prizes

This wasting our money on fortune, murphy, stokes, hopper, bangara etc has cost our club in

    A. Money down the drain as cheap strikers normally mean rubbish

    B trophies

    Not rocket science is it

Lack if investment means zero debt and zero trophies

  20. Neil Lennon will continue to receive the love the support and protection of the Celtic fans in his personal life

However when it comes to managing Celtic on the park I want the best qualified man out there and I am afraid Neil Lennon has shown that his heart is as big as the next Celtic fan but his managerial skills are sadly lacking

Do you read all that I say or just jump on the bits that allow you to misrepresent me?

You have a penchant for it. Go back and read the post I wrote -all of it – and then justify how you represented it. You did it twice last week on conditions for Rangers survival, in spite of being corrected.

I see Cultsbhoy having a wee dig as well – he has called me deluded in the past and in one respect he is right. I deluded myself that there is something great about Glasgow Celtic and its support, an ethos based on charity that made me want to belong to something greater than all of us.

It was the bringing together of that spirit that got me working on a membership scheme as a means of binding those who wanted to belong to do so.

But do you know what? I was deluded. There might be some who enjoy belonging, but there are others whose idea of love of Celtic is hard to discern from love of themselves.

If Celtic give you so much pain following them, I have news for you and Cultsbhoy, whatever it is you feel for the club it ain’t love for Celtic, love does not create meaness to others.

There are some wonderful supporters whom I have had the pleasure to meet and there are some ungrateful barstewards I am glad I have not.

I am seriously rethinking if the good of supporting Celtic outweighs the bad. I want to enjoy being a Celtic supporter, not having to defend myself from emotional attacks from those who cannot handle a downturn in fortune.
