Celtic 0-0 Hibernian

1111

Celtic surrendered another two points to fall further behind in the championship race, drawing 0-0 at home against Hibernian.  It was a unorganised looking performance from the home team who gave Graham Stack little to do in the Hibernian goal.

Gary Hooper squandered Celtic’s only gilt-edged chance of the game when, after playing a one-two with Anthony Stokes, he struck the outside of the post with Ki available for the square pass.  Anthony Stokes had earlier tested Stack, who failed to hold the ball but did enough to clear.

When the same teams met on Wednesday James Forrest transformed the game when he drifted inside but he spent most of today’s game adrift on the right wing.  On two occasions he cut inside with purpose, once testing Stack with a blistering shot from 22 yards and later when a 25 yard pile-drive struck the crossbar, but Hibs were content to limit Celtic to such speculative efforts.

Neil Lennon was justified in his criticism of his front pairing of Stokes and Hooper today but Celtic were equally clueless in midfield.  There appeared to be no cohesion and there was certainly not a productive match plan.

Motherwell’s away win in Inverness gives the Lanarkshire side a three point lead, having played a game more, going into next week’s crucial game against Celtic at Fir Park.  Manager-less St Johnstone dropped three points at home this afternoon, leaving them four points behind Celtic in the fight for the last Europa League place.

This is where we are people, scrapping between Motherwell and St Johnstone. Get used to it.

  1. For what it is worth I thought and hoped we may have turned the corner with a few spirited performances recently.

I now think the current management and players of the club are incapable.

When things were not going well on the pitch I instinctively looked at the bench for something.

I saw no movement, no attempt to support, cajole, motivate, change formation or anything close to that.

It then hit me that the current set-up are not capable of improving things and we will continue to drop points and fall further behind.

We have cheats and cowards in our team.

We have a board happy with second place.

I’m glad because sometimes people on here are too sensitive to critiism directed towards Celtic.

There comes a time, though, when we have to stop accepting the crap the club are feeding us.

Up against a bankrupt team for the last 4 years we have watched them take title after title.

Lawell took over the reigns in 2003, a high point for our club in terms of international results.

What are the metrics on which his bonus are calculated?

    Decreasing turnover year on year?

    Decreasing performance year on year?

    Decreasing attendances year on year?

I could go on, but if those were targets then he’s doing a grand job.

  3. Unless the situation is sorted the hun will take his points penalty and still win the title that is quite a thought and in my view an instant step down of the whole board and management/coaches

With all respect, asking ME what the plan is, even if I had such a plan, is a WASTE OF TIME.

I am not the one earning a million a year to HAVE a plan.

On this site tonight, as we sit twelve points behind Rangers, we have people defending the strategy, someone trying to sell us a membership certificate even as he accuses fellow fans of not loving the club, we have people who want Lennon sacked and people who don’t. We have people discussing bullets and bombs as if those despicable actions are enough reason to stick by a manager who may be floundering, we have people talking about the latest Rangers rumours and people who want to talk about why Jim White is wearing a poppy. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly are all represented tonight in spades.

I once thought forums like this might – just might – be a genuine chance to change our club. They won’t be. Ironically that’s not what they were made for. It’s like all those relationship questions I can answer in my mates lives but have never been able to answer in my own. You can see the problems of another as clear as glass, but self analysis … some people just can’t do it.

Whatever the answers are, they’re not going to be found here. This is, to be blunt, above our pay grade.

Now, if the guy we WERE paying to have answers actually did … I suspect we wouldn’t be here right now talking about this disaster.

Anyhow – the Motherwell, dufc and mid week Hibs games, spring to your mind because they are quickly becoming the exception to the general standard of play being offered by Celtic this season.

I don’t think this team will suddenly change to become more consistent – therefore I feel we need a new team. Not every player obviously, but I think I’m keeping less than I would get rid of.

However, the single biggest change we can make is in the direction of the club and to achieve that we need a new CEO at the helm?

The idea behind the scheme was to share the load of supporting Celtic more equitably and to encourage better communication with the support so that when things go bad, as they do in football, the club and support would pull through it together.

I enjoyed the experience working on it deluded as it appears to be.

PS On love. What part of the following do you display for Celtic?

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Your membership scheme is exactly what I thought it was. Pure elitism.

“To share the load of supporting Celtic”?

Since WHEN has that been a “load” that needed sharing? When I want to do THAT I come here and talk, openly and honestly, about how I feel. And on nights like tonight, what happens is that the more honest some of us are the more we have to listen to crap like that.

You want the club and the supporters to pull together. Sounds nice. All very safe, and cosy, and New Labour Third Wayesque, and I’ve heard it before and I wanted no part of it then and I want no part of it now. Similar sentiments were used to take this country into an illegal war and another institution I love has never recovered from the damage.

When the club and the fans both WANT the same things that will come naturally, WITHOUT a “scheme” to make it so. When the club and the fans are coming to a fundamental and critical parting of the ways – as for many of us they are – then no “scheme” will make it better or look better or sound better or smell better than it is.

Love comes in many forms. For some it manifests itself in total devotion without question. For others it’s about fighting for what you care about, painful as that might be. That requires people to be honest. I love this club in spite of all its issues. I love what it represents. What you appear to be overlooking is that my desire for the club to succeed means I am at odds with the people who have caused its failure, and I can love Celtic even as I slate those who are running it into the ground.

I have left institutions before. I will always love what the Labour Party once was, whilst hating what it became. I will always be a follower of the Roman Catholic Church, despite recognising its many sins throughout the world, and I will defend the name of both and what they represent although I have left one forever and quite probably will never return to the other, because I can see the glorious intent behind them, the enormous good both still do in many, many, many ways, every single day and I love Celtic although I presently refuse to pay money I can barely afford so it can fund the lifestyles of greedy, lazy, arrogant players and the bonus of the CEO.

And I know how I feel without you telling me, and I neither seek, nor need, your approval to call myself a fan.

And as long as I live, that’s how it’ll be. “Member” or not.

“I cannot understand how or why the team are playing so badly/inconsistently. The same group earned 90 odd points last season so what has changed? Injuries apart what has changed?

I can’t understand either. So answer your question.

    – changes to first team – Matthews, Wilson, Khaddouri

    – less public threats to our manager;s life – possible knock-on effect regards siege mentality etc

    – continued involvement in European football

    – lack of continuity in team selection (not all down to injuries)

I’m not going to defend James Forrest (the CQN poster, not the Celtic player) but I am convinced you both ultimately want the same thing. Whatever problems of ego he (or you) may have, you and I and almost every poster on here wants Celtic to be great.

Some but not all of of that greatness manifests itself on here every day, or in charity initiatives across the world, or in the wide range of flags flown above Paradise in its history, or in the fact that one year my supporters bus learned the words to No Huns In Europe in Bulgarian, or to Michael Davitt laying the first sod in the new ground, or to Fergus McCann and his share issue, or to that night in Glasgow…

Some of that greatness manifests itself on the football pitch. We are not seeing that.

Hence the anger. It’s not at our failure to compete with the huns, whatever their level of corruption or (as we are used to) football lumpenness. It’s at our failure to compete at all.

You are one of the posters I respect most, purely for your words. I admire James’ writing too. More importantly, you are someone who is actively working to make things better for Celtic, and maybe you are having success I don’t know about, simply though your efforts to raise awareness or raise hackles within the SFA, the SPL and UEFA. James seems like a guy you could enlist, get together in BBs or on KDS or whatever and sort it out.

I’ve kind of stopped being a doer, I’ve become an encourage-from-the-touchline kind of guy. I, and the rest of the silent majority, want you and James to put your passion to work for us. And to prove my goodwill, get my email address from Paul and I’ll become a doer again. Let me know what I can DO for the cause, and I’ll get more people to do it.

I understand people saying Neil Lennon should not be our Manager any longer but you know what….I think he does deserve the solidarity of the Celtic support more than any other Manager in my Celtic supporting lifetime for what he’s gone through, just for the crime of being one of us. So, right or wrong, I can’t abandon him. I can’t do it.

What he needed was the support of the club, and that, my man, I do not believe he got, and if my anger is more raw than it usually is – and I’m sure that is well noted this season – it’s because of all the men who should not have been left twisting in the wind, Neil Lennon was a guy I never believed they would do it to.

I don’t like the idea of Dermot Desmond being head honcho, I never have (I grew up in 70s – 80s Ireland and the guy’s as wide as, well, any other ruthless tax-avoiding privateer). To be honest, I don;’t like the idea of anyone being head honcho, so much so that they win every vote at the AGM without turning up. THAT’S elitism.

A membership scheme, socios, subs, collectivism – sounds good to me. I don’t know how it would or if it could work, but I’d certainly be interested in it. I gave up my season ticket because I couldn’t afford to go to games (bus, drink) but also as a lifestyle choice (opportunity cost was time with my youg family); but I would sign up to a membership scheme that granted me a vote in Celtic affairs, a voice in the club, a sense of belonging that being a shareholder does not give you, because Dermot’s money should not buy him a bigger share of belonging.

I said in my last posting to Auldheid that you and he are probably not fr apart in terms of where you want Celtic to be, but you have very different views of how to get there.
