Celtic, 1 away defeat in 15 years domestic cup football

202

Ask any manager who he wants in the next round of the cup and he will invariably say as long as it is a home tie he doesn’t care.  You, however, live in exceptional times to be a Celtic supporter.  Celtic have not lost an away tie in Scottish Cup or League Cup competitions in 12 years, when a week after putting seven goals past St Mirren, we travelled to Paisley and were eliminated from the Scottish Cup.  Incredibly, we have not lost an away game in the League Cup since 2004.

Martin O’Neill’s Celtic famously lost at Inverness in the Scottish Cup just days after progressing to the Uefa Cup semi-final with a win at Liverpool.  Martin’s teams also lost away League Cup ties in each of the following two seasons.  Gordon Strachan lost his first Scottish Cup tie as Celtic manager in an also-famous game at Clyde, which saw Roy Keane and Du Wei caught in the headlights.

Since that game in Cumbernauld 15 years ago, the solitary loss at St Mirren is our only defeat away from home in Scottish or League Cups.  As for Ibrox on Sunday, we are ready, bring it on.

    Souptaker Alert !

Nardinis of Largs usually fly three flags above their building, the saltire, the Italian flag and the butcher’s apron. As it has been closed most of the time there were no flags.

Today they have only the butcher’s apron up at half mast.

Do they know the chookaembra was in the navy sinking Italian ships ?

Business is business I suppose !

Of course Celtic once reached the League Cup Final 14 times in a row.

    Didn’t win them aw

  3. A solitary defeat in 15 years of domestic Cup football is an impressive stat and let’s hope it continues. Celtic are coming into a bit of form just now and played well with the sun at their backs last Saturday.

The Hoops bossed the last couple of games against Le Blues but they have to put the ball in the net and stop getting those set-piece jitters.

Depends where you are but the only places I know who would do a good job would be Billy Bilsland or Dales. Both Glasgow.

  5. CQN, Celtic news, not lazy journalism.

Edouard has let the supporters and himself down claims Celtic hero.

Thanks. Have done these things myself for years but now being an ‘ol so so and so’, different aches and pains are turning up so wanting someone else to take a look…if that makes sense.

I’m a huge fan of Nardini’s but its owned by the Equi family now another family of Italian immigrants. Sad to see them buckling to the pressure from the right wing press.

Or of course maybe they’ve bought into it hook, line and sinker?

  8. I changed a chain and indexed the gears on my road bike at the weekend, I hate doing it , always takes ages but I’m too miserable to pay someone to do it :-)

I’ve never seen that footage before its great. I also had never seen Celtic play in all white before, was there a reason for that? I was only 5 at the time :-)

  10. Duke of Edinburgh is dead ,have a bit of respect ,if you don’t like home ,but don’t come on looking for brownie points ,to political and bigotry at times on here ,and I always think it’s the Ibrox Mob that’s spout that garbage on here , but it’s just as bad on here .

Question for you. Do know why was G Connelly’s second ‘goal’ was disallowed at Elland Road 1970?

RIP Eddie Reilly.I did not know the Joe Baillie story, very sad.

Embedded in the article is the 1951 CUP FINAL, I kinda think of that one as a kind of forgotten one.

*right after this is the 1964 GC Final at Parkheid against 2nd Division Clyde who, although promoted, would finish a massive 14 points behind Morton that season.

Our side was the famous “aye its Celtic Celtic that’s the team for me” and we were as usual profligate in front of goal especially Stevie who was like an earlier version of Ryan Christie blootering balls all over the place, but let’s not forget he somehow managed tae put one over the bar from the goal line against the Hi Hi one Saturday, Johnny divers was brilliant though.

It was the Bully Wee side that surprised me as it contained a young Harry Harry who a year later would turn us down for Sunderland, crabbit faced Jim McLean, future hun manager Davie White and a future Celtic player of the year even though he didnae play for us.

“Ole scot symon’s got a sore heid just because of Sammy Reid, bye bye baxter”.

  15. I am guessing Celtic wore all white as our hoops would clash with morton stripes.

no idea why GC goal disallowed.

  16. Liberal PPB on bbc there the para was rippin out of my household not just me cos Willie Rennie kept using the word ‘bounce’..🤣🤣

True, his Assistant, incommunicado alongside Neil, does seem to talk a good game, and has achieved two good results in our last two games.

*this was a bone of contention, and not just on here, by the support as it looked as if big JFK was in a cream puff standing pretty distant from the manager and possibly not in a social distancing manner either.

Mibbees just mibbes he was thinking how all the planning they had done on the training ground at which allegedly Lenny never partook in and here he’s effing it up on game day, we’ll never know but we do seem tae not only be playing better but enjoying the game as well.

Are we possibly looking at a repeat of March 17 and 24 1991.

Thanks for the accolade but it is not merited. I enjoy a bike ride but I am far from being expert on matters mechanical. I am not even certain what a `bike fit` is ! If it is matching bike and rider so that efficiency is increased, then I know that my mate paid 60 quid for the service locally ( Arbroath).

Can’t say I agree with the Paul’s confidence.

Apologies for putting you forward as a bike mechanic 🙈 , btw did you know that cyclists in Australia are known as Lycra Louts ? I’m sure that doesn’t apply to cyclists here !

Just curious, but who gave Welsh a 4 year contract?

Celtic do not have in place a new CEO, Director of Football, Head Coach, Chief Scout.

    Who sanctioned the contract?

Are you sure it’s the bike that needs tweaked?

    😉

I splashed out (by my tight standards!) about £50 ten years ago-ish and had it done at Dales in advance of cycling Oban to St. Andrews. One of the best investments…ever. They were (then) class.
