Celtic, 1 away defeat in 15 years domestic cup football

202

Ask any manager who he wants in the next round of the cup and he will invariably say as long as it is a home tie he doesn’t care.  You, however, live in exceptional times to be a Celtic supporter.  Celtic have not lost an away tie in Scottish Cup or League Cup competitions in 12 years, when a week after putting seven goals past St Mirren, we travelled to Paisley and were eliminated from the Scottish Cup.  Incredibly, we have not lost an away game in the League Cup since 2004.

Martin O’Neill’s Celtic famously lost at Inverness in the Scottish Cup just days after progressing to the Uefa Cup semi-final with a win at Liverpool.  Martin’s teams also lost away League Cup ties in each of the following two seasons.  Gordon Strachan lost his first Scottish Cup tie as Celtic manager in an also-famous game at Clyde, which saw Roy Keane and Du Wei caught in the headlights.

Since that game in Cumbernauld 15 years ago, the solitary loss at St Mirren is our only defeat away from home in Scottish or League Cups.  As for Ibrox on Sunday, we are ready, bring it on.

  1. Haha, if only NL had had the great football guru Tommy Johnson as his assistant we would have won 10 in a row and would have played in the last two CL tournaments.

  2. Celtic are akin to the Evergreen cargo ship stuck in the Suez canal, we are stuck in the sandbanks of football paralysis, Celtic is being left held hostage due to the inaction of our captain(CEO/DOF) in filling very important positions in our football dept, let’s hope his intervening in the remaining, selling or buying of players doesn’t give the new management team a huge disadvantage for next season

  4. I’ll feel better when we start to prioritise player training over player trading……………….

  6. ERNIE,

I might be wrong, but was Donaldson not found innocent of these charges.Maybe I have been reading the wrong history books.

  7. Bankiebhoy – good luck! Had a quick look there on their YT channel and they have 5-6 videos just on the Meniscus.

  8. Eddie, Griff and Klimala look likely to be away in the summer.

There’ll be a lot of players coming and going this summer. Hopefully our transfer workings are going on in both directions, we need to be lining players up for the future manager to sign off on from week one in the job.

His apologists in the cult reckon he was much misunderstood and it was all a Unionist plot.

But no, he was prepared to do a deal with Hitler to further the cause of Scottish independence.

He was interred in the Bar L for a while, as was our old pal Billy Fullerton, for the same reason.

Don’t know if they were there at the same time. Maybe they shared a cell.

  10. ERNIE,

My history says he was found not guilty of the charges.Nothing to do with the then SNP.Was in Bar-l for a while, but then released with no charges brought against him.

A “Unionist plot”upon my soul, who would have ever have imagined such a thing.

As usual Ernie, letting your total dislike cloud your judgement.
