Celtic and the burnout issue

512

Delighted for Leigh Griffiths (penalty), Callum McGregor (penalty and assist) and Ryan Christie (goal) who, after a difficult few months domestically, got any reassurance necessary from a Scotland performance and result that they can compete and win on the European stage.  McGregor’s reverse pass for the goal was a thing of beauty.

The caveat is that our players will compete for four domestic trophies this season, head to the Euros with Scotland, then go straight into Celtic’s European qualifiers without as much as a long weekend down the Clyde.  To paraphrase Roy Scheider, you’re gonna need a bigger squad.

Footballers are not machines.  They have peaks and troughs of form, fitness and focus.  How many mountains can Callum McGregor climb?  We have to hope Steve Clarke cuts the Celtic players some slack in the spring internationals, while Neil Lennon should have a good hard look at the remaining three Europa League games before risking his most precious assets.

Terrible times for our beleaguered hospitality industry.

    https://www.facebook.com/103726421972

is that the same hospitality industry built on zero hour contracts?

i have not got one bit of sympathy for the vermin they-

-send rota’d staff home unpaid as the function is to quiet.

-once staff do their hours they could be unpaid for weeks/months and if they for monies owed they dont get used again

-tips and perquisites given to staff are ‘pooled’ so all staff get share- generally means much less once management take their share, thats management for you- staff know there is a permenent difficulty with getting their wages they then find the vermin

dip into tips to cover til shortages/breakages.

    – staff so insecure that management encourage an atmosphere of ‘grass your colleague’ shite on them, betray your neighbour, that hospitality industry.

we even had “meals for directors” where monies were given by the state/us to enable the vermin industry to maintain profit as we the state supported.

Yeh Greenpinata i disagree with you on the poor hospitality sector.i think you would side with me if you knew half the nonsense these plastic adolfs came away with..

its terrible times indeed.it is a varied industry and my comments cover all scotlands big hotel groups, they are the ones shouting the most, their behaviour is the most rancid.

i hope the hospitality industry, especially those with unmerited entitlement use this time to review their brilliant staff and secure their loyalty.

Celtic players are employees of Celtic and most aren’t emotionally involved like us eijits …

But … the Scottish players love their country … it shouldn’t be viewed as a negative … although hope you don’t mind me posting … you love a negative

Neil L & McC … Scotland teaching the Euros is massive for our Scottish players and I think is a great thing for Celtic … just my opinion

  3. I hope Calmac is rested for the rest of Scotland’s matches. I would rest him in some of our own games too. He has played far far too much.

On the other hand, I would be delighted if Griffiths played every Scotland match. We were at our best last season when he and Eduard were playing together up front.

My overriding hope is that each and every one of our players who is on International duty comes back safe and well.

  4. PCS 10.53am

Calmac was “rested” between March and July … the bhoy (IMO) would rather play … Callum loves playing for Scotland … we (Celtic fans) might think there are too many internationals … Callum & co might think there aren’t enough

  5. GFTB,

You may well be right that Calmac loves playing for Scotland but there have been plenty of signs in his recent CELTIC performances that he is running on empty. For me, Celtic are far more important than Scotland and qualifying for the CL next season, if we win the 10, is far far more important.

  6. PCS 11.10am

Even though I am a massive Neil Lennon fan maybe Callum plays a different role for Scotland …

Even though the older I get the more I want Scotland to do well … it’s totally different for emotion for Celtic … I have a feeling Steve Clarke might give some of his starting 11 a rest today … but I won’t be disappointed if every Celtic player in the squad starts today … as a footballer I think confidence is everything and Ryan, Callum, Greg & Leigh will come back to us bhoyant (sic) the more they win games for their country

  7. PCS

I think beating teams like Serbia ( I realise it was a draw) and Slovakia will (I think) only improve our players in Europe

  8. McGregor should be rested today, same with Ryan Christie.

These guys already play too many games and could do without these International kick abouts which are nothing more than glorified friendlies.

The only thing that matters is 10 in a row.

Nothing else comes remotely close to this.

  9. Neil Lennon & McCartney on

“Jock Stein used to say to us that when we went away with Scotland we should come back to Celtic as a better player for the experience.”

    David Hay

  10. That quote from Jock Stein is probably 50 years old now.

The world has changed since then, including football.

International football no longer has the appeal that it did back then.

One further point, just remember how few caps Jock Steins players got for Scotland.

  11. Moravcik 11.53am

Every time I see your moniker reminds me of Lubo’s two goals against the Huns and Jo Venglos for brining Lubo to Celtic … so in my opinion your posts bring a wee smile to me

Maybe Callum & Ryan don’t want to be rested … they are flying just now let the bhoys play

Cmon you bhoys in blue (copyright Jobo :-)

Nobody on here bangs the drum for fairness and equality more than myself.

The low paid workers who are also key workers deserve acknowledgment in their pay packets to reflect the word key.

As for the hospitality industry, yes there are good and bad employers. ( That is one reason I always tip in cash )

However it is a fact that the hospitality industry is disproportionately affected by yo yo lockdowns. Many venues will close, never to reopen again.

    How does that help society.?

    HH to you.

‘That quote from Jock Stein is probably 50 years old now.’

    ###

    Exactly.

And when Celtic were playing in Europe they used to take their own food with them so they didn’t have to eat all that foreign stuff.

  15. Neil Lennon & Mc 12.08pm

Totally agree … Ryan’s dad was on Sky Scottish football the other night and was asked if his Bhoy was annoyed at playing different positions, he was also asked if Ryan moans about it to Neil Lennon … I paraphrase but Charlie C said … “he moans to me after every game but would never dare to moan at Lenny” a wee fling away comment but to me it shows that Ryan will play wherever Neil asks him to play

  16. Greenpinata 12.15pm

Dwp key workers attending their work place are currently getting a 12mins @ day “pay rise” and seemingly that’s a very positive thing .. the 12min @ day “pay rise” came into play in May …. 6 weeks after the pandemic was officially a pandemic and the 12mins @ day “pay rise” was not allowed to be backdated

  17. Bhoys,

Callum and Ryan may wish to play every game, but some games are more important than others, especially in this hopefully historic season.

Games for Celtic, the club who pay their huge wages are more important.

If a player wants to play every game, that doesn’t mean that he plays every game.

Scott Brown being the classic example.

Players CANNOT peak 60 times a season.

10 in a row is the top priority this season, more to the point, it is the only priority this season.

Europa League is gone now, rest the squad for these games.

The focus is on the league now, nothing else matters.

    (Well maybe the quadruple treble)

    ###

If the lockdowns are effective at reducing the spread of the virus then society benefits because fewer people will die before their time.

And we might want to reflect on why ‘the hospitality industry’ has grown to the extent that it has and whether it is a sign of a healthy balanced economy.

I also think Charlie was asked “is Ryan good enough for the EPL”

Well what do you say to that, other than “of course”. So many making something out of nothing. Not me, for one

    Mon the Ryan!

    HH

  20. Moravcik

Is 10 @ row more important to Ryan, Callum, Greg, Leigh …. or just to Celtic fans ???

I want the 10 but it’s not the be all and end all … plus it actually legitimises the Huns titles during their Bank of Scotland sponsored cheating years … “if” any Celtic fan really doesn’t recognise Sevco / Rangers as a new entity then … shoorly Celtic are way way beyond 10 @ row ???

Or does getting 10 this season really justify Rangers still being Rangers …

    liquidation just a myth

  21. I can assure you that liquidation is not a myth.

Rangers failed to come out of administration in June 2012, and went into the liquidation process.

    This is fact.

I would expect this line from a supporter of Oldco or Sevco, but not a Celtic supporter.

I would also assure you that 10 in a row is important to the players also.

This has nothing to do with Sevco.

10 in a row is the Holy Grail, and nothing should get in the way of it, least of all some meaningless international games.

  22. Can I just say … I think Barkas has been hung out to dry … and think he is a top goalkeeper who will come good … just a pity he followed big Fraser but £90k @ week means far more than first team football (and nobody should dismiss that as I am sure we would all sit on a bench at Southampton for that pay packet) am still a bit gutted that Scotland goalie today is still not a Celtic player … I wish big Craig nothing but good things … well apart from the 20th of December in case the big man breaks my “heart”

  23. VogueP,

  24. Moravcik

Why is it the holy grail ??

The “10” legitimises the Huns cheating years … do you not agree ?

  25. Petec 12.51pm

    How’s things ?

I think Celtic are missing fans and teams like Rangers & Scotland are rebelling in no fans :-)

McChuills getting a big shout out on “off the ball” … only drank in the place through BMCUWP… hope we get back there one day …

  26. The hand of God on

GFTB..I went on a bit of a rant last night regarding the general behaviour of members of the public on transport and in supermarkets.I am annoyed at this behaviour because it led to me contracting covid which in turn put my family at risk, something I’m sure you can relate to being a family man.I didn’t post at the time of my test as I dont want seem to be looking for sympathy .I felt unwell for one day but luckily that was that but you do lie awake at night thinking F me I have this deadly virus and the fear of it spreading it to my family so therefore a post ranting about it.You came on and started having a go at my employer (fine by me it’s just a job) and telling me how I should be grateful at getting 100% wages (I am grateful some friends have lost their jobs) I informed you that I am not on 100% wages ( my wage is made up by commission which obviously we haven’t been receiving for 8 months). You came on again today insisting that we are on 100% wages I would have thought that actually working in the place I would actually know more about it than you.Bottom line I posted a complaint about certain members of the public’s behaviour which I’m 95% sure led to me being infected with covid and you came on having a go telling me I should be grateful.I noted your post this morning which I thank you for(even though you still had a pop).Thankyou to Majestic Hartson and Greenpinata for your kind words.

  27. Nothing can legitimise the cheating of Rangers during the EBT years.

If you need an explanation, 10 in a row has not been done before in Scotland.

This could be a historic season for us, and nothing should get in the way of it.

  28. Hand of God 1.00pm

We are probably on the same page and again … no malice intended

My family think I am a “hand wash” nutter … and sad as this reads I have got out of my seat and moved carriages when people aren’t wearing masks … honestly I didn’t take any offence at your posts and was more annoyed at I didn’t acknowledge your original post as when I read it I nodded my head and agreed with it …

Again my “rant” was at your bosses not the rail workers

  29. Ernie Lynch,

Your arguement is the one establishments will use and are using to destroy our freedoms.

Unprecedented police powers, shop your neighbours, shop your grandmother for hate speech, demonise alcohol, restrict movement, curfews, remove sound from pubs, remove TV,s from pubs, choose which family members you can see, who you can have sex with.

Next it will be compulsory vaccinations, prohiibition, mandatory identification to be carried at all times followed by ID cards.

The schools are half empty with those who are passing on the virus and those who are isolating. It is so obvious where the main spreaders are.

Interesting the topic of conversation the other day. I visited the DDR museum in East Berlin a few years ago. It gave you a flavour of life in the totalitarian regime.

    The parallels are stark.

    Be wary, be very wary.

  30. Hand of God

Again apologies … I didn’t include your “commission” in my post, my post was from people I know who have been receiving 100% of their salary since March without having to go to work …

It wasn’t a dig at yourself … but Scotrail / Aureollio (sic) have not furloughed one employee and have had government funding … mate, that is a fact

  31. Yo Gerry, I’m making the best of things.

    I could do better.

    Celtic will get Better.

God Bless ye Gerry, Neil and our Amazing CELTIC.

    Gods Story.

  32. GREENPINATA on 15TH NOVEMBER 2020 1:09 PM

    Bullshit.

You’re concerned about the state taking our liberties?

Go and follow what the spycops enquiry is exposing and fulminate about that. At least that would have some validity.

  33. BHOYJOEBELFAST on 15TH NOVEMBER 2020 9:49 AM

    RIP Des O’connor.

Remember the Mel Torme hit ‘Careless Hands’ was a number 1 for Des in 1967.Then we played the huns in ’68 and John Fallon made a couple of mistakes and ‘they’ were serenading with the aforementioned song. Was not at the game but the game was on Scottish home service, almost certain commentary was by David Francey.

    ___________________________________

David Francey – there’s a name to conjure with. A friend listening to the 1969, 4-0 Cup Final while working at C&A told me about the Francey commentary. Late in the first half, Bobby Lenox scored a second. The ref was about to blow for half time when George Connelly relieved John Grieg of the ball and planted it in the net.

Francey howled in pain. His exact words were, ‘It’s another blunder!. Celtic have scored!’

  34. The fewer appearances on Radio Scotland of Michael Stewart, leads to more gigs for Craig (I hope Sevco win the league) Levein……

  35. Petec 1.21pm

Hope you and Delaney’s get a game of pool/snooker soon, also hope Aidan is getting through all this rubbish although I am sure you are both missing Celtic Park

As you know I am a Neil Lennon fanatic … probably to my detriment … but like me & you am pretty sure Neil wants the very best for Celtic … maybe some don’t think he is “professional” but I listen to the players he managed … they all love him … maybe the “low block” brigade know better :-)

  36. Does anyone else think it would be a good idea to send or present Joe Biden

A framed CELTIC shirt with his name on it.

    Or mr president on it.

I think the number should be 46?

As he is the 46th president .

    What does anybody think.

I think it would be a fantastic pr moment.also if he comes to Glasgow he must get an invite to CELTIC park.
