Celtic and the burnout issue

512

Delighted for Leigh Griffiths (penalty), Callum McGregor (penalty and assist) and Ryan Christie (goal) who, after a difficult few months domestically, got any reassurance necessary from a Scotland performance and result that they can compete and win on the European stage.  McGregor’s reverse pass for the goal was a thing of beauty.

The caveat is that our players will compete for four domestic trophies this season, head to the Euros with Scotland, then go straight into Celtic’s European qualifiers without as much as a long weekend down the Clyde.  To paraphrase Roy Scheider, you’re gonna need a bigger squad.

Footballers are not machines.  They have peaks and troughs of form, fitness and focus.  How many mountains can Callum McGregor climb?  We have to hope Steve Clarke cuts the Celtic players some slack in the spring internationals, while Neil Lennon should have a good hard look at the remaining three Europa League games before risking his most precious assets.

  1. Reading about Norway – looks like no cases in their actual squad but Government not letting them travel.

So our players now have to quarantine if an opposing player they haven’t actually played against tests positive – surely more to it.

Much appreciated … but on the golf now … gutted as I was going to bet Dustin J win it but Skysports “dragged” me in with their “hotshots” offer so am hoping Justin Thomas gets a few more birdies … just a pity I couldn’t get a bet on Big Jimmy ….

Not to mention the overpaid TV and radio presenters, news readers etc. A female DJ got a £1m rise despite having lost a large number of listeners.

Meanwhile the minimum wage is all that some critical workers can earn.

  8. There was a discussion on how poor Irish accents are in films etc. Well I watched the Irishman yesterday and Robert de Niro made no attempt 🤭

  10. NEWRADBHOY (15/ Nov @ 1.34pm) . Aye would be amazing to see The Hoops in the White House and Joe Biden visit Paradise ! I’ve been thinking about the ousted idiot Trump and what he might get up to in his spare time now. He looked at Sevco before and ran a mile, however with their cheating, finiancial and eveRay other method having them neck n’ neck with us would he be interested in them. That would be one marriage made in hell as Sevco, Trump and the old club (I’ll never refer to them as old-co or new-co) are made for each other for sure. On his next trip to Scotland watch the begging bowl come out for “investment “ and / or takeover. What a sickening thought. Only thing from my perspective is it would probably fast forward ma dream of an independent Scotland ! (And of course United Ireland). Hail Hail.

  11. HIGHLAND PADDY, an independent scotland would see the closure of the catholic school system which i was brought up in , be careful what you wish for.H,H, IMHO.

  12. ADI_DASSLER NOT FOR 2ND BEST, adi dasler my old man was from the working class village of croy, he wanted to be an engineer, but this was the late thirties early forties, he had the qualifications but because he came from croy, he was blanked, he had to go down cardowan pit then twechar then bedlay, he died from lung disease at age 53, why because he was a catholic from croy, he once told me SNP stood for strictly no papes may have changed now, but that was what he told me,H,H,

  13. Des O’Connor dead too.

Saturday nights with the Morecambe & Wise Show taking the mickey out of him was a tradition in my family home. We all laughed old yins & young yins.

Des never seemed to take himself too seriously & often just burst out laughing in the middle of scenes.

    Some feckin year this 2020

    Great picture.

I don’t recognise any other of these “showbiz” folk.

I would never have got McDevitt either.

Some of them like Des look like a strong wind would blow them over but Sean Connery looks like a hardman centre half from that era.

  15. Fairhill Bhoy

I’ll be roaming on YouTube later.

Garden path work just finished & I’m getting not so subtle message that I need to shower.

    Cheers
