Celtic fans get stuck into our reason for being, nomad moot

765

Congratulations to The Kano Foundation for their magnificent fifth annual charity dinner on Saturday.  The Kano story is beyond incredible and a credit to those who call ourselves Celtic fans – whether you are involved with them or not.

Well done also to everyone who participated in the Celtic Foundation Zip Slide across Celtic Park on Saturday, in aid of children’s’ charities.  It was exhilarating and is sure to be repeated.  A weekend without Celtic and hundreds of Celtic fans get stuck into our reason for being.

They can blame the last guys for the lack of commercial revenue streams, or for paying incompetent coaches too much money.  They can even blame them for over-ambition when it came to funding the playing squad, but for all of its short corporate life, Rangers International PLC’s previous board members have been able to produce accounts on time and all received approval from authorised nominated advisers.

If the new board members are unable to deliver a nominated adviser, blaming the old board, as one newspaper tried today: “largely because of the scorched earth policy implemented by the previous board in the last days of the Mike Ashley empire – they must do so before the City shuts down for the Easter holiday”, would be both dishonest and a very worrying (for some) departure from a company which seeks to build its corporate reputation.

This entire question should be moot.  Mike Ashely didn’t need to be on the newco board to exert the control he needed with an 8% share and neither would Dave King.  King could easily take a back seat and appoint trusted men of stature who would breeze the nomad requirements.  We can only speculate as to why King NEEDS to be on the board, and don’t count on anyone who can get close enough to King, or his PR, asking this question.  The entire uncertainty is an unnecessary nonsense.

Sorry about that mate, many thanks for the congrats btw.

  3. A common theme on CQN is the problems with developing young players. One major problem is the lack of a reserve league. Since Scotland doesn’t have one is there any rules that would prevent Celtic applying to join another reserve league?

The issue of a reserve league is being looked at.

I believe that the current under 21 league rules have been amended so that any team participating can now field up to 5 players who are over 21.

It is heading towards a reserve league in all but name.

Few countries run a reserve league anymore, concentrating instead on competitive age-level football.

We stop at U20 now, having previously stopped at U19.

Down south, it’s an U21 competition.

A combination of improved training methods for first team players, and a recognition that players should be emerging into first team football at 18-20 means maintaining a reserve squad, and committing to fixtures in a reserve league, is an unnecessary cost – the player pathway isn’t well served by a reserve set up, or so the current argument seems to be.

In Holland, while again the Beloften is an age group competition, the top side is promoted to the lowest level of the senior set up, with currently PSV, Ajax and Twente playing U20s in the Jupiler league, below the Eredivisie.

Perhaps there’s something to learn there?

Advise then to rent first. 3 to 6 months over winter.

You learn a lot and have not committed yourself if you get it wrong.

If winter the further south the better and coast rents higher than inland.

A great idea that should be looked at….I enjoyed going to the reserve games when I was a pup, the old season book would allow you free entry.

The one that will stick in most supporters minds was against the deid club, when the hun barred us from ipox… The place was buzzing..even more so when the plane buzzed over with the “Hail Hail the Celts are hear” banner trailing after it flew over ipox.

The band at halftime was good too ;)))

Notwithstanding my earlier comment that I still believe it’s a cqn’r at the wind up I do think that it’s been interesting to watch how different folk react. Provided the blog rules are observed I don’t have a problem with supporters of any team (or none at all) posting their views. In fact I much prefer when someone is honest at the outset rather than trying to present themselves as someone they’re not.

Not every ‘Rangers’ fan is a hun… in my opinion.

Nobody needs to converse with him either. He’s entitled to post here and if he’s being alright then what’s the harm?

I know it’d maybe be different for us visiting their sites but that’s their problem.

I assume when you hear fans chanting about this stuff when they come to Celtic Park you wonder about their mentality. If that’s the case, I find it baffling that you would post the link with the line ‘one of your own?’

One of your own,,,,,,,,,, as you posted above, nice try at the spin but.

  19. bournesouprecipe on

During the Jock Stein era, Celtic attempted to have our reserve side play

in the old Scottish division two.

The proposals were rejected, by the SFA.

  20. Sipsini I remember the band were still playing when they were trying to start the second half

For me it’s his unswavering belief in his system and style of play. Obviously, that largely depends on his system and style being successful.

Pleased to hear Rogic’s back in the fold.

If memory serves right, durrant was going off his nut at the ref to start the second half…can’t mind who the ref was, but he waited until the Rebs finished playing…;))

  25. Good luck to Tom Rogic tonight.

I think theres are player there.

He could be suited to RD’s system with his footwork and improved movement off the ball.

I always thought he had something so hoping it’s upwards from here.

Thats a fair point and it could well be its someone at the wind up, still think he’s been given a lot of leeway on here and we’re very good at being apologists. As Tambo said at least he’s being up front about it but from a personal point of view I’d like to lay him to rest, heard enough

    Twentyfirstofmaynineteenseventynine,

I wouldn’t dream of it. No reason for me to do that, and I agree with you when you say I’d not be too welcome.
