Celtic fans get stuck into our reason for being, nomad moot

765

Congratulations to The Kano Foundation for their magnificent fifth annual charity dinner on Saturday.  The Kano story is beyond incredible and a credit to those who call ourselves Celtic fans – whether you are involved with them or not.

Well done also to everyone who participated in the Celtic Foundation Zip Slide across Celtic Park on Saturday, in aid of children’s’ charities.  It was exhilarating and is sure to be repeated.  A weekend without Celtic and hundreds of Celtic fans get stuck into our reason for being.

They can blame the last guys for the lack of commercial revenue streams, or for paying incompetent coaches too much money.  They can even blame them for over-ambition when it came to funding the playing squad, but for all of its short corporate life, Rangers International PLC’s previous board members have been able to produce accounts on time and all received approval from authorised nominated advisers.

If the new board members are unable to deliver a nominated adviser, blaming the old board, as one newspaper tried today: “largely because of the scorched earth policy implemented by the previous board in the last days of the Mike Ashley empire – they must do so before the City shuts down for the Easter holiday”, would be both dishonest and a very worrying (for some) departure from a company which seeks to build its corporate reputation.

This entire question should be moot.  Mike Ashely didn’t need to be on the newco board to exert the control he needed with an 8% share and neither would Dave King.  King could easily take a back seat and appoint trusted men of stature who would breeze the nomad requirements.  We can only speculate as to why King NEEDS to be on the board, and don’t count on anyone who can get close enough to King, or his PR, asking this question.  The entire uncertainty is an unnecessary nonsense.

  5. Had to look at the calendar to see what date it was after reading all that nonsense from Bill bear. Of course, he could be in some part of the world where it is already 1st April.

So Phil posted “Billbear, one of your own?”

    I’m surprised at that.

  9. Only had a quick peek back, saw BillBear’s initial post but not sure what he has been saying since. Now BillBear may well be a Sevcovite dipping his toe in CQN for the first time. Providing he is civil and abides by the rules I don’t have a problem with him posting.

However there is always one controversial poster on site, the name varies, it could be TSD/Ryecatcher/Alfie Noakes or whatever but whenever the current controversial one makes their exit you can put your wages that another one will shortly make their entrance.

    Good Evening All.

First of all can I say what an inspiration the Kano Foundation are. Joe McKenna, our own Sannabhoy and everyone else involved deserve huge praise for the effort they put in week in and week out come rain or shine and no doubt at huge personal expense in terms of their time and effort.

I managed to get to the dinner dance on Saturday night but in truth I was shattered by midnight and took my leave.

Unfortunately due to circumstances I couldn’t make CQN11 nor the Celtic Charity Foundation dinner at which Gordon Strachan apparently spoke so well about the club and its aims and ethos.

However, on Saturday I got the chance to just watch and listen to some of what our club’s supporters have been up to and it was also a chance to see some of that support away from the forum of football meetings or matches.

You know the sort of thing:

    Paul67 having a pint.

Mrs P67 doing her thing on the dance floor.

    Janette Findlay twisting and turning.

Wullie Broon from the Celtic Network taking the michael out of yours truly and telling jokes.

The guys from the Homebhoys receiving a wee award from the Kano Foundation for promoting the foundation and its work.

Chatting to Jim Blyth about the Celtic Graves Society, weans, drink and the late Gerry Reynolds.

Tony Hamilton explaining what he knows about golf ( the CFC Foundation Golf day is on Thursday ) in less than half a second!

Ellen Coyle chatting to me about my dad

El Diego Bhoy proving he can move both legs in tandem – at least I think that was what he was doing.

A brief chat with Pat and Davie

An even briefer chat with Moonbeams and quite a few others.

Generally just being amongst good folk having a night out and a laugh and all for the benefit of a good cause.

And I managed a quick pint with Eddie Toner on Sunday at lunchtime just for good measure.

On Friday I was out at Coatbridge racing camels — no I wasn’t racing them perosnally as the oul knees are not up to that at all at all — for the benefit of the Malawi and Bangalore projects being supported by the staff and pupils from St Ambrose High School.

Once again I witnessed incredible generosity, community spirit and an awful lot of laughter and smiles.

By last night I was well and truly knackered.

There really is some great work being done out there with real differences being made. The zip slide appears to have been a great success ( no I did not slide but maybe in the future ) and there are more Foundation projects and events on the horizon.

Lastly — Hamilton Tim/Mynx/ An Tierman

    Donegal and where to start?

    Glenveigh is a must.

Gartan and its Loch – definitely and there are those who will swear to this day that keeping a little Gartan clay about your person will bring you luck and good fortune when you most need it.

Errigal and Muckish if you fancy a climb but more importantly for the drive through Creeslough — Atlantic drive up to Dunfanaghy and beyond on a sunny day all the way up past Portnablagh and Hornhead — next stop America!

Look out for the beach at Ards and beyond – God was an architect you know?

Rathmullen and Ramelton where you will find many a McGinley right enough.

Churchill and its one shop, two churches and three pubs!

And that is all in one wee area ignoring all sorts of other gems once you start to go round the corner towards Dungloe, Inch Island, Aranmore, Gortahork, Derrybeg and on to Glencolmcille – jeez I remember playing tennis there a thousand years ago – Killybegs and back round to Donegal Town — ah jasus the list ie endless!! Endless I tell ye.

Donegal is geographical terms is just one wee corner of one wee island but by God when I think of holidays in Buncrana and Falcarragh and Carrigart — and the long drives in search of a pint on Good Friday — by the way that can be a long journey! — and a thousand other places and things — it will take more than one lifetime to explore them all.

Enjoy in the knowledge I am jealous.

I was doing the Byres Road walk on Sunday and bought some cracking books from the Oxfam book shop together with a six dvd box set on the history of football.

Then I nipped in for a pint in Tennents before heading home.

Evening all (and welcome to Bill)

I don’t post often but lurk most days. I feel Billbear is getting a bit of a hard time by some. He’s not been abusive, disrespectful or nasty. He’s obviously not perfect (wrong team for starters) but seems some are just too quick to get on his back and abuse him or his team.

He’s actually taken it quite well and obviously has a sense of humour, so give him a chance eh bhoys?!

… Oh, without making folk suspicious I’ll make it clear that I’m not him and he’s not me. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is infact a CQNer at the wind-up :)

  24. BRTH thanks for conjuring up in our minds eyes the beauty that is Donegal. Visited many of the places you have mentioned very briefly. Also have relatives in America married to families from that area.

But you only mentioned one part of it. My people are from Inishowen which is equally as beautiful. When I say we are from Inishowen, we only moved in there 300 years ago as we were left behind because of a wounded forebear after the Siege of Derry. We really are from Wexford/Carlow all those centuries back and have DNA evidence to prove it.
