Celtic fans impact in Liberia

capture-20170530-221909Mary’s Meals were in touch with photographs and information from the Sean Devereux Primary School, Montserrado County, Liberia, the seventh school we have funded through Mary’s Meals. We started to raise money for this school at Christmas. Each school day, 253 pupils are fed a vitamin-enriched meal, paid for by you.

Liberia has chronic problems, exacerbated by the recent Ebola outbreak. Only 38% of primary aged children attend school, largely as a consequence of the economic necessity to work in order to eat. The meals you provide address this central problem, but importantly, it ensures children attend school for what is often their only daily meal. This access to education provides life chances which carry decades worth of benefits.

Daniel Folley, deputy head of Sean Devereux Primary, said, “The school’s population has increased [because of the Mary’s Meals kitchen], and academic performance is at a peak. Hunger used to rive children down, when teachers used to speak, they were not paying attention. Now they are able to learn more.”

In 15 years Mary’s Meals has grown from a shed in Scotland into a force which feeds over 1.2 million children each day. As they work in the poorest areas, your money goes far. It costs an average of just £13.90 to feed a child for an entire year.

The other big reason we like Mary’s Meals is that 93% of funds raised reaches the recipient. The organisation runs on just a 7% overhead, which is exceptional in the aid sector.

Online communities get a bad press, but you share this blog with a lot of great people.  See below.  This is how it feels to be Celtic!

    Dinamo Batumi – Georgia

Last season’s runners-up in the country’s top flight, Dinamo Batumi are probably one of the sides that Rangers want to avoid.

It’s the second largest city in Georgia, located on the coast of the Black Sea but it’s not easy to get to. If Caixinha’s men were unfortunate enough to draw a team like this the board would have to consider chartering a flight to ensure that preparation was as smooth as possible. Batumi play at the Tsentral Stadium, which has a capacity of only 4,000. Their new ground is not due to open until 2018.

  3. It is quite obvious that i would never make a decent footy manager as i do not rate Johnny Hayes above a fair to good SPFL standard footballer and can’t see what he may add to the squad. IMO we have a lot of young talented players on our books that should be given opportunities before we consider spending anything on 29 year old SPFL standard players. But it seems that both MO’N and BR (allegedly) rate him. So what the fe*k do I know?

  6. Home or away, make yer own sausages today, what to do these next few weeks with nae fitbaw :))

Ingredients: • 750g minced beef (30% fat) • 150g pinhead rusk (You could just use breadcrumbs, which would make a nice sausage, however a butcher would use rusk) • 200g chilled water • 2 tsp salt • 1/2 tsp grated nutmeg • 1 1/2 tsp ground coriander • 1 1/2 tsp ground black pepper Method Mix all the spices and salt with the meat in a large bowl. Work in the water to make a sticky mixture. Now work in the rusk until all is thoroughly incorporated. Pack the mixture tightly into a 23cm x 8cm loaf tin lined with clingfilm. Leave it in the refrigerator for 24 hours to set. When the sausage has set take it out of the tin and cut it into 1cm slices. Fry or cook under the grill for 4 – 6 minutes.

Aberdeen are willing to sell Jonny Hayes to treble-winners Celtic, but only if the Hoops give them midfielder Ryan Christie in a player plus cash transfer.

The Hoops want 29-year-old Hayes, who scored the opening goal in Saturday’s Scottish Cup final at Hampden, and a deal could be completed this week.

The Dons value Hayes at £1million, but will accept less if the Hoops agree to include Christie in the deal.

Republic of Ireland international Hayes has two years left on his contract, but it seems his time with the Dons is near an end with Celtic and three English Championship clubs vying for his services.

Birmingham City manager Harry Redknapp watched Hayes at Hampden on Saturday while former Rangers manager Mark Warburton is also keen on taking Hayes to Nottingham Forest.

Warburton wanted Rangers to make a bid for Hayes in January in the hope of bringing him to Ibrox. Cardiff City, who failed with a bid for Hayes in January, are also interested.

Celtic hope the fact they can offer Christie, who is keen on a move to Aber-deen, can help them get Hayes, although they want to recoup the £500,000 they paid Inverness for Christie in 2015.

Christie impressed in his loan spell at the Dons and finished the season on a high, scoring three goals in his final two games for Derek McInnes’ side, including the winner in a 2-1 win against Rangers at Ibrox.

Former Celtic manager Martin O’Neill, Hayes’ international manager, is not surprised the Dons midfielder is drawing a crowd.

He said: “He’s been brilliant for Aberdeen for the whole season.”

Hayes will join up with the Ireland squad next week after being excused from the trip to the United States for the friendly against Uruguay.

O’Neill said: “I think Jonny would like a bit more time. I think he feels he’s capable of doing himself justice at international level because he’s got that confidence. He’s another one whose attitude is top class. Good luck to him.”

  10. Just the thing the well dressed tim about town should be wearing, smart plain shirt, pair of slim fit levi’s jeans, a pair of Jeffery West brown suede boots and for a jacket

CELTIC’S treble-winning defender Erik Sviatchenko has ended the season on a note of high fashion – as co-designer of a limited edition of tweed jackets which salute the Lisbon Lions.

Along with his artist father, Sergei, Erik has created the highly-collectible jackets – only 67 are being made – in a specially-selected Celtic Harris Tweed.

Hand-woven in the Outer Hebrides, the jacket features its own exclusive shade of green. The lining takes the form of a specially-commissioned collage by Sergei, bringing together iconic images from the 1967 Lisbon victory. The lining of the jackets carries iconic images from the Lisbon triumph.

The jacket features three buttons, a hook vent, gross grain collar tab, patch pockets with flaps, raised seams and of course that striking collage lining. And as befits a jubilee, the sports jacket also boasts golden blazer buttons throughout.

With attention paid to every detail, these highly-collectible jackets come packaged by premium company A-Tex. Working closely with Sergei Sviatchenko, the Denmark-based company have created stylish protection and carriage for each piece.

Lisbon Lion John Clark, who helped Erik to model the jackets, said: “This is another magnificent tribute to the Lions. It is a beautiful jacket to wear and I’m sure will be handed down to the next generation.”

The jackets come in specially designed commemorative packaging and are being sold exclusively through Celtic at £390.

  12. Just checked into my favourite Lancashire hostelry , a pit stop before two days of graft in the Media City in Salford.

Sun still shining as it has for the last 3 weeks to my eyes,

I can agree that it is toasted cheese and I will pass on the lovely tweed jacket. £390 would get me a nice wee trip back to Lisbon.

    Take care everyone. HH

You are very right. Its a discrace that “they” are allowed to sell those front row seats .

Last time I was there close to one corner a quarter of the game was out of view.

It used to be a great stadium in the days of 120,000 crowds now its an embarrasment of a national stadium.

  17. While I am happy with whoever our manager brings in, I can’t see how we benefit from buying Hayes at the expense of Ryan Christie. Hope I’m proved wrong if the transfer takes place.

I think you would get more from Hayes than GMS or Forrest, long season again we will need a big squad, though 7-8 will go.

What a trip Lisbon appears to have been for you, great piece you wrote earlier.

Update on L.D. although it’s a few days old, so may have been developments, offered New 1 year deal but unless exceptional circumstances won’t be part of first team squad, will be with development squad has offers from down south, I think it may be time to move on to get regular first team football.

I posted yesterday Hayes instead of GMS squad improved, Hayes instead of Paddy not improved, one thing with the nature of that position and injuries do need more players there.

Just read Alves’ comments in the Daily Hun, noticed no comment about club’s history, shocking

when one thinks of how much BR improved most of our players this year, you have to think that Hayes would similarly improve under BR’s tutelage …. he is already a pretty decent player, but, with BR’s help, there is potentially, a really good player there.

Hayes could be a very astute signing , if it happens.

A strong, fast moving Kris Commons type of player.

Wingers like Forrest, Sinclair, etc., are mercurial types of players, who really have to be at the top of their game to be of value.

Average performances don’t extend to them.

Therefore, having alternatives is good, as we can then play whoever is “hot”.

  28. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

    …..and another thing.

IF Christie is part of the deal, then that may signal the extension of Armstrong’s contract.

  29. Bada

If charging 99p disny give thems a clue, there really is no hope for them, but we knew that anyways, they deserve all they get, sign a 35 yo hasbeen and the 55 is on again, whit are they like :-)

Yes I enjoyed it very much. Thank you. I celebrated with two cans of diet coke.

A huge part of me would have loved to have been in LIsbon, more hope over reality though. I could have travelled no bother, it’s the partying that would be impossible.
