Celtic have an oddity to put right

780

It is early enough in the season that Celtic have ample scope to recover from the odd reversal but with October just around the corner Neil Lennon and his players will be wondering why they have not won two consecutive league games this season.  This particular oddity can be put right tomorrow if Celtic win and leapfrog Motherwell, who sit precariously at the top of the SPL, albeit having played a game more.

There is also probably some fine-tuning required on formation.  We kept a clean sheet in both Champions League qualifying away games but have not achieved one in three away SPL games against weaker opposition than Helsingborgs or HJK Helsinki.

Motherwell exited the League Cup on Wednesday but don’t expect this to sap momentum; Celtic on Saturday is their cup final.  We can expect a direct and physical challenge on what is likely to be a heavy pitch.

An early goal from the champions would settle the nerves.  If they get this, don’t be surprised if they go on to win comfortably.  Despite indifferent form this season the signs are there that Celtic are getting their game together.  Prediction: 0-4.

  1. Morning All from a fresh crisp morning in the Chilterns…

Hoping for a Celtic Victory today, I’m not expecting to see the partial performance I saw on Wednesday from the Lanarkshire Club, so we must be on our game for our SPL two-in-a-row.

Fairly busy day today so hoping to avoid the score including the valuable CQN updates to watch the delayed live game on BBC Alba.

Looking forward to putting the Mothers to the sword today after their pitiful display against the zombies!

To all those going today – safe there and back and enjoy!

Good morning fellow Celts, sunny blue skies in West Renfrewshire-suspect it’s cold out tho’

Really looking forward to Lenny sending out a team to teach those Mothers a lesson- we should have more than enough for them…and, still put up a show in Moscow.

Vmhan- hope you get back soon YNWA

  9. The Celtic Blog by timothy Rants (top item on Celtic Newsnow currently) is very funny but not suitable for reproduction here.

Hope Vmhan sorts out his issues and finds a way to contribute on here

  10. Vmhan re Facebook it’s practically impossible to completely close the account. You can deactivate the account in the general settings (if you ever log in again it re-activates). Before deactivating you could remove photos/friends and set all privacy settings at their highest levels, best you can do I think.

Hope your not gone forever as a mostly lurker on here your one of the posters I enjoy reading. Hope you get things sorted out. Hail Hail

  11. A Saturday away game at 3pm. Not on the telly and full allocation sold. Can’t wait.

Hope Lenny picks the strongest 11 that are fit and available, Tuesday takes care of itself when it comes around. We must beat this bunch of imposters today. They will be the polar opposite to what they were against the zombies, they will be in our faces, kicking and fighting for every ball. Win the battle first then let the superior football win the game.

Not sure who’s fit and who’s not but i’d like to see us along the lines of

I hope you are back on here fit and well soon.

    Take care and God bless.

  13. I would leave JF out of today’s starting line up and put Broonie wide right, with Kayal + Vic in the middle and JL wide left

Our biggest problem today will not be Motherwell

It will be the wee soup taker dressed in all black

    TMWTL

    Agree.

He must show his employers he is worth his £1000 per game fee.

  15. So Green wants the UEFA money, does he? The money due because players he never employed and who refused to transfer to his company previously played international football. He’s got a cheek.

And why are the SFA even entertaining his nonsense? They should pass the money on to Rangers for the benefit of the creditors (remember them?) and let “The Rangers” sue if Green has money to burn.

Still, Chick has a glamour cup tie to look forward to in Forres. Against a team that has won championships.

Forres Mechanics v Rangers Zombies. Sounds like a minor league American sports tie.

  16. sixtaeseven: Supporting the Finest Team in Scotland on

Morning all from gay Paree, sunny spells (17C max alledgedly).

I had a quick browse thru the BBC Scotland site and Aul Scotia’s kwality papers this morning and it seems the biggest game of the day will be a Scottish cup 2nd round game up somewhere up in the Highlands.

However, back in the real world, the SPL is boasting a full card of fixtures for the first time in donkeys years.

Indeed, the Hoops are kicking off at an SPL away ground at Saturday 3 o’clock for the first time in SEVEN years!

    Hunbelievable!

It should be quite a game, with table toppers M’Well hoping to make amends for their insipid midweek display.

As usual, we are hardly likely to to get a friedly reception from the, erm, “family club’s” players or fans.

Anyway, really looking forward to seeing Lenny’s line-up for today. We have a big squad to choose from with the likes of Sammi and Super Joe looking for some game time after injury. However, with a CL match on Tuesday, Lenny may be tempted to protect one or two of his fiirst picks.

There a double objective for us to day: 3 points and no further injuries.

It’s a tall order, especially when you consider whose got a whistle in his mouth and eyes in the back of his head…

I’ll go for a narrow win: 2-1 to the good guys!

Oh, and who ever even looks at Scottish Cup 2nd round results?!?

    Gardez La Foi!

  17. Morning all. Wild, wet and windy here in North Ayrshire. Is it too much to pray that it is the same, if not even worse, in the 6 counties today? I hope all you from there and your loved ones are safe.

Just win today, Celtic, and preferably by the noted 5-0. But 3 points and everybody well enough to board thon plane for McGeadyland is what is important.

  18. TMWTL,

Said as much earlier in the week. I’ll never forget the penalty that never was. I sit right in line with where it occurred in the North Stand. Only in Scotland and in favour of thon deid team would he get away with it. If he had given it for us (don’t laugh so loud at this time in the morning), he would not have reffed another game.

  19. Meanwhile back at the top of Scottish football we have a big game today. And at 3pm on a Saturday too.

A solid midfield is the key to winning this one. No 4-2-4 today, we need to dominate in there. Three points this afternoon will set us up nicely for the trip to Moscow.

  20. Vmhan,

I haven’t read back as far as you saying you wouldn’t be on CQN anymore. But I just wanted to add my voice to those asking you to reconsider. You will be badly missed, certainly by me and, I’m sure, the other addicts of this best of all sites.

  21. Only three points will do today we can’t have the Mullets taking the proverbial out of us after their performance during the week…

A Mulletskelping is the only order of the day..

Big Vic to tober wee ratface Lasley please..

  23. Vhman:

Don’t know what’s going on amigo. I consider you to be one of the good Ghuys, hope all is well. You’ll work through it, we all have our trials and tribulations and our Crosses to bear.

I will remember you in my Prayers and pray that you over come what is troubling you. And you will over come amigo, trust me you will.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

  24. From the Mail:

‘In a side effect of the row, Rangers legal reps, Biggart Baillie, have been forced to choose between acting for Rangers FC 1872 or The Rangers Football Club amid fears of a conflict of interest.’

    Two different clubs then.
