Celtic income down 21% after drop from Champions League

747

Celtic’s turnover slipped 21.1% last season to £51.08m (2014: £64.74m), almost wholly explained by the drop from Champions League to Europa League competition. Operating expenses dropped by a smaller amount to £53.27m; higher than income, but by a very manageable amount.

The club’s cash position at 30 June 2015 was a positive £4.72m, although this figure will stray into negative territory during the season. Net exceptional costs were down to £740k, considerably less than the £4.089m paid out a year earlier, when the management team moved on.

Profit on the sale of intangible assets (football players) was £6.773m, down considerably from the £17.052m from the previous season, and a bit of a surprise given the expected impact of Fraser Forster’s sale to Southampton. It’s possible that Newcastle United received a dividend from the Forster sale. Total loss for the year, after interest, disposals and acquisitions, was £3.947m.

“Investment in football personnel” was up slightly to £9.42m, the amortisation charge for the year was £7.313m.

It’s clear that Celtic can continue to operate at current levels but the impact of Champions League revenue on all aspects of the club remains stark.

On the club’s wider place in society, chief executive, Peter Lawwell, noted:

“Charity forms a fundamental aspect of the club that we aspire to create. Charity lies at the very heart of Celtic; it is part of our DNA.

“I am delighted to say that the Club and its supporters does more now than we ever have done for charitable purposes, most notably Celtic FC Foundation, which continues to grow from strength to strength and to inspire all those involved with it.

“The continued commitment of our supporters, shareholders and partners is crucial; I thank you for that commitment, which we will do all that we can to repay.”

  1. Charliebhoy thanks for sharing, truly marvellous story. Hope my sprogs think as highly of me one day but I doubt it. Hail hail.

  2. Neil Lennon left a bigoted country, to have a life with his family, a proper life, and that pains me to talk about my country like that.

Minority my arse, it was the whole of Scotland who where not Celtic affiliated, gave it to him in the back at every opportunity, I even remember that RAT Keevens once criticising his haircut when it was short ffs. One of the most ignorant journalists I’ve ever heard.

    Lurking Huns GIRFUYs.

  3. Looking forward to a tough match today.

With a 4 out of 4 record last year, RD can only go downhill with any dropped points.

To be honest, though we are well capable of winning at Pittodrie, a draw away from home against your closest rivals for the title is an ok result.

Early on in the season with our defence not settled, on the back of our players being away on international duty and with top spot in the league up for grabs, they will never have a better setting for enhancing their chances of a win.

Today, a match day, has seen a lot of negativity on here. The mineshafters seem much more obsessed with the balance sheet than the happyclappers are. The money men are always worth watching , but the balance sheet will still be there for debate tomorrow, and, if there are dropped points today, a lot of your negatie pals will make one of their infrequent visits to CQN.

I am going to cheer on Celtic today, even if we only manage a draw.

Sure, what else would you rather be doing? Accountancy?

  4. That’s another 3 years with a duff broadcasting contract. i think we can assume we will be on a par financially with English division 1 sides by 2018. This was a backwards move once again, sanctioned by all 12 SPFL clubs.

Unless we play in Europe on the Thursday. So get the prayer mat out for a successful EL campaign!

And congratulations when it comes for that milestone.

  11. Hmm. The team.

The persecution/scapegoating of Izzy continues, the £5 million signing’s not trusted, young Tyler gets a start and Johansen somehow magics himself back into place along with the recently invisible GMS.

    Ronny’s last-chance-saloon starts here.

I AM really interested and only ask you, since you were one of the main ‘architects’ of RES 12 …. Great that it is progressing ……… You couldn’t unsettle me, my MHAN……. I’m unsettleable. ….HH

  13. Last minute dash — any family friendly as in very family friendly pubs showing the game in Glasgow / close to the M80?

  14. I’m going to watch the Celtic…not so much to be enthralled by the team on the pitch(though, I hope to be) but, to listen to the away fans who are the remaining magic at the club…imho

After that…I’m going to sleep…if I wake up…I’ll come back on and project all my, love / worries / memories / hopes & dreams.

If I don’t wake up….just know that…my heart is filled with L-O-V-E for Glasgow Celtic Football Club and, all L-O-V-E her.

    Thanks…..off oot. YNWA.

  15. Interesting line up

Tom Rogic promoted to a big game for the first time and all in all a slightly more cautious Ronny side, not surprised Charlie Mulgrew gets into the back four, ahead of the new bhoy.

  18. embramike says "the Huns are Deid" on

Not surprised Jozo not in team as he is a 21 year old who just arrived in Scotland from Croatia and joined up with the team a few days ago.

Away to Dons is our toughest fixture – he will need time to settle in to new ways of doing things plus the new environment

  19. Bizarre and disappointing team.

I really want Ronny to succeed but he keeps baffling me with his teams, subs and statements.

I’m guessing Johansen on the right and GMS on the left of the 3 with Rogic off the striker?

GMS has been off the boil, as has Johansen and Rogic is feeling his way into the team. Suddenly we have an untried defence and an out of sorts and out of position front 4…

Aberdeen are not great but they will pressure our back 4 and make us go long. We will go long and lose possession due to having no physical strength up there at all.

I see us going in behind at half time and bringing Ciftci on shortly thereafter. We may end up 442 but I can’t see any better than a draw.

As usual, I hope Ronny proves me wrong. Going to Amsterdam on the back of a defeat will heap a hell of a lot of pressure onto the team.

  20. I think the fact Simunovic only arrived in Glasgow a day or two ago probably means it’s quite sensible to leave him out of a big game like this. We’d all love to see him in action given the apparent spend but I’m sure RD et al are more interested in the 3 points.

  21. “Bizarre and disappointing team.”

    Guernica,

I know. You’ll have watched them all week and know better.

  22. Also, I looked at our squad the other day,

    .

For me, there is next to nothing between our first and second teams. Is this because we have a strong squad now or a weak first team?

For example, of those not in today’s team:

    Bailly

    Janko

    Ambrose

    Simunovic

    Izzy
