Celtic interims report turnover up

571

Celtic published a decent set of interim results this afternoon for the 6 months to 31 December 2015 but chairman, Ian Bankier’s address gets down to business with, “One the park, it has been a frustrating season”.

The sale of Virgil van Dijk contributed to a £12.6m income for player trading, balanced by £6.1m spent on the acquisition of Jozo Simunovic, Scott Allan, Saidy Janko Ryan Christie and Nadir Ciftci. This brought pre-tax profit to £11.7m, with cash in the bank at £7.7m (up from £5.3m a year earlier).

Turnover was up by an inch to £31.4m as the club traded at an operating profit for the period of £1.564m (before player trading). The second half of the year is devoid of European football income, not that the Europa League is that much of a game changer.

I know financial stability isn’t an end in itself, but it’s important nonetheless.

Hopefully Celtic will bounce back to top form today and make a statement of intent to everyone who wants to see us fail. And on the topic of statements, here’s one of my own “many congratulations to JOBO BALDE for completing his 150th Parkrun today, that is serious commitment and an achievement to be proud of.

    Hail Hail.

  2. Good morning,

Hoping for a good win today.

I was disappointed to hear Celtic will be getting a gambling company as a shirt sponsor.

Celtic will soon be sponsored by people who want you drink and gamble a lot, as that means they make as much profit as possible. I’m also pretty certain there wouldn’t be disclaimers on these products such as drink responsibly or gamble responsibly if they weren’t legally required to do so or if they didn’t think it would affect their public image.

It seems to me, that the next logical step for a shirt sponsor would be a loans company. I hope it doesn’t happen.

I actually came on to talk about football/ post music but that news has just really annoyed me. How does this fit with the charitable, caring image that Celtic FC like to tell the world about? Why can’t we have a charity advertised on our tops, other than our in-house one?

I think there’s a real disconnect between the fans and the people at Celtic who think of this kind of stuff can get the go ahead.

  3. If memory serves correctly, a number of years ago when I complained to Celtic about the opening of bookies’ shops etc. at CP, i received a reply along the lines of everybody else is doing it.

  4. Snow battering it doon here……..any excuse for an afternoon in front of the telly and a wee catchup with Railroad Alaska and the rugby

  5. I’ve read some of the football is fixed blog, before it became so heavily redacted.

Someone else here, I can’t remember who, said there’s big money in football so there should be no surprise there’s corruption.

One of the easiest ways to make money would be to fix matches. And who are the unaccountable body of individuals who control a game when it’s actually being played?

The SFA have vague, open rules that allow them to make discretionary decisions. For them, the use of discretion is to avoid responsibility for their decisions.

Apply that thinking to the performance of referees and think how much scope that allows for decisions to be made that allow for predetermined events during a game or for predetermined results.

  6. Snow heavy and lying on the ground couple of miles from the ground now. Game in doubt if it keeps up ?

    Good morning all,

Been away for a while but good to see some familiar folk still posting on here.

There was a lot of talk on here some months ago re the ability to watch some football through new technologies like streaming sticks.

I’ve got myself one (Roku) and could do with some pointers. Can anyone direct me to a link or website for techno numpties?

    Much appreciated.

    Lubo.

Had a quick look but It doesn’t look like you can get Kodi on Roku sticks.

Kodi (used for streaming live footy and movies etc) only works on Android and Windows devices.

There are ways of running some Live channels via Plex and Roku but it’s not simple.

  8. Wins today and next week a must, time to get behind Ronny and the team.

Ps. Any of you gamblers out there, Dundee Utd look a good bet today 6/4 away to Hamilton.

BCW – doubt it, snow forecast to go off at 1pm and rain at 2pm. Hope not anyway.

  9. On 13 June 2009 I did my first ever 5K ParkRun, finishing in a time of 20:56. Did my 50th 27 months later (21:57) and reached my century in September 2013 in what remains my 4th best ever time of 20:18.

Today I clocked up my 150th, slugging round in 23:02. One of my Bhoys beat me by half a minute after dining out on a huge Dominos pizza last night! Grrrrrrr.

Entrants get a commemmorative tee-shirt for their 50th and a showerproof jacket on completing 100. Nothing for 150 though – next reward is only if I get to 250, unlikely to be before 2020! That might co-incide wih us winning 9-in-a-row. Again.

2 big rolls on sausage coming my way in half an hour….. ;-)

  10. Cosy Corner Bhoy on

Busty hoy: Condolences on your loss. RIP.

Looking for good win today and will follow game on CQN. Don’t think RD will play my team is All recent signings start! (Where did that ‘is’ come from?).

  11. 16 roads - Celtic über alles... on

Not gonna make predictions today, or say that we’re gonna do this, or do that.

I hope Celtic win the game, and win well.

    That is all.

    KTF.

  12. Ffs he must have his own pen over there?

James McFadden has signed a contract extension at Motherwell until the end of the season. Available for today’s game v Kilmarnock.

  13. Gambling and Pubs are linked to football the way salt and vinegar are linked to Fisn n Chips.

its just the way it is.

    HH.

  14. embramike says "the Huns are Deid" on

So just 8 games after today until the dreaded split, another SPFL cock up to be sure. The central mandate is that each team must play 19 Home and 19 Away at the end of the season.

At the spilt (33 games) we will have played 17 Away and 16 Home, so are due 3 Home games after the split. Of the 6 teams below us, we will probably play Aberdeen and Hearts, plus 3 from Ross County, Dundee, St Johnstone and ICT.

The 5 teams we are due to play at home are currently the bottom 5 teams in the Division. So of those other Top 6 teams, only Aberdeen are due to come to CP, therefore 2 of the remaining teams will have to come to CP for a third time.

I would imagine we will definitely play away to Hearts ( Mrs Budge probably scares the crap out of the SPFL) , so there will be 2 unhappy clubs from the 3 other top 6 teams from the likely group of Ross County, Dundee, St Johnstone and ICT.

Over to you Dungcaster and the discredited SPFL. Perhaps 5-way agreement (Part 2) – or another “That would be a metaphysical matter”.

.Anyway snow falling so of carefully over Harthill to see the Hoops pick up 3 points COYBIG

  15. Quonno

Received a similar reply when I asked them why they were calling them Rangers on the club website.

  16. och my time for downing half a dozen pints of Guinness has remained almost constant 120 minutes over the past 6 years or so , Nae point in me competing with my son he has downing 6 lager well below the hour mark

  17. Greenpinata,

If that was true then that mean I have no links to football?

And BTW don’t go rummling up East Coasters with your salt n vinegar assumptions!

  18. Time to put the pressure back on the sheep before ICT game. In my correct opinion, you can only keep winning by 1 goal margins while your luck holds. Some of their wins have come gift-wrapped, with some incredibly bad decision making by defenders, especially St Johnstone last week and that almost inexplicable handball in the last minute v Jambos who had had some great chances to lead.

So take luck out of the equation and get 3 points today Celtic, no matter the score.
