Celtic need to learn resuscitation methods

980

Celtic have lost in the game immediately after three of their previous four European games, shipping nine points which could be crucial in determining the destination of the championship, so it was not surprising they were below par for much of the game yesterday.  Fortunately, the Aberdeen goal came early enough to allow Celtic time to raise their game and respond.

How Celtic respond after European games will become even more crucial in the weeks ahead as they have visits to Motherwell, Dundee United and St Johnstone due after our next three Europa League games.  Any slim championship aspirations will be extinguished in these games if Celtic are unable to improve performance for the league challenge.

Ally McCoist is defying early predictions and grinding out impressive results for Rangers, who will seldom have started the league with such an impressive defensive record.  Six away wins from six games without conceding a goal is the kind of form it takes to win leagues.

Our more immediate challengers, Motherwell, dropped two points on Saturday, meaning we can go two points clear of them if we win our game in hand, however, the teams meet at Fir Park a week on Sunday (three days after Celtic play Rennes), in what looks like being a key game in our season.

There is so much rumour and counter rumour it’s hard to tell. The word was that he had mortgaged 4 years of season ticket money to put money against the debt. Some other contributers said that fell through. As I understand it, he didn’t so much pay off the debt as match it with “his own” money. Only Lloyds can have secured/prefered status meaning CW couldn’t pay off the debt and lend the money direct to Rangers. If he did that he’d be in the same boat as the wee people and HMRC. He’d only be due pennies in the pound.

We (Celtic FC), are crap because, We (Celtic fans), continue to finance a regime that has a Hearts supporter as head of our PR department ?

We (Celtic fans), continue to pay PL, upwards of £500k for turning ‘our’ club, into a club that has a football team on the pitch that ia marginally better than a team from the, Blue Square League ?

And do you know what the most annoying thing about it all is…..that we will continue to do this thinking that the hun demise will make us feel better ? IT WON’T !!!

Don’t worry if they go into administration, they will end up crapper than we are. The victor this season will be the least crap team.

We buy the players we can afford, even if we were to carry and acceptable debt, the quality would not be significantly higher. We would be a wee bit less crap.

Re talk of administration and deduction of 10 ten points and possible loans from others here is article from Telegraph when Gretna went,I am unclear if the monies etc were advanced perhaps other on here would know.

PFA Scotland chief executive Fraser Wishart met the club’s players on Monday after Gretna announced that it had filed for administration in the courts.

“Having been involved in this situation many times before, I know the consequences for players are not good,” Wishart said. “I presume that some of them will lose their contracts but that’s not clear and I need to speak to the administrators first to see what their plans are and hopefully we can all find a way to help Gretna survive.”

Chairman Ron MacGregor on Monday applauded the SPL for granting Gretna an advance on their share of television and prize money, which is normally presented at the end of the season.

“We have had tremendous support in terms of advice and loan money from the SPL,” he told the club website. “Considering we are their newest member, and probably their most short-lived member for the moment, they have been very good with us.

“They are making available a loan. It is a loan against money that would have been due to us at the end of April anyway but making this loan money available will enable the staff and players to be paid this week. Then after that, it’s into the administrators’ hands.”

An SPL spokesman said: “If an SPL club is the subject of an insolvency event, a 10-point deduction would apply immediately. The club would also be embargoed from signing any new players.” The appointment of an administrator brings the sanctions into effect and the deduction will leave Gretna with a return of just six points in 28 games, 62 fewer points than league leaders Rangers.

They won’t bring another team up mid-season.

The SPL would continue with 11 teams, with points gained against Rangers declared null and void.

  15. Jeezo the rangers Tax Case fella is losing sleep over the huns. Is that the sign of a fanatical old firm fan?

What about players? Could they be transferred (for money) outside of the transfer window?

That’s a possibility as I think something similar happened with Portsmouth a couple of years ago. The issue with this is that even if a buying club wanted to purchase one of their players, they couldn’t register them to play until the transfer window and I can’t see why any club would spend money on a player (transfer fee and wages) they couldn’t play for a while.

CELTIC are ready to swoop for Swedish kid Alex Milosevic.

The talented young stopper is also being tracked by Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and Werder Bremen.

But sources in Sweden say Celtic could land highly-rated Milosevic, 19 for £1.5million.

Any move for the youngster by Hoops boss Neil Lennon will throw more doubt on the future of axed stopper Daniel Majstorovic who has lost his place in the starting line-up after a string of poor displays.

AIK defender Milosevic has already trained with the Parkhead side.

He spent a week with Celtic last January and his progress in the Swedish season — which ended last weekend — has seen him nominated for two top awards.

Milosevic admitted: “I spent a week training at Celtic earlier this year and really enjoyed it.

“Everyone made me feel very welcome and I’m flattered they wanted me to come to Scotland.

“There have been lots of things written about clubs looking at me, but I try to concentrate on learning my game.

“AIK is my local club and I like it in Stockholm.

“I have three years left on my contract, but Celtic is a big club.

“If the clubs can work something out, I would be interested.”

AIK spokesman Jens Andersson said: “Alex is a player who has created a lot of interest.

“Out of respect for the clubs, I won’t talk about them by name. But there is a lot of interest in him around Europe.

“He’s still under contract with us, but football is a business.”

A Celtic source said: “Milosevic is a proper defender and we know all about him.”

Speculation is rife in Sweden that Milosevic will leave in the winter break and AIK have already brought in his replacement in 17-year-old Edward Owusu.

Now Celts will step up their bid for Milosevic.

  22. Estadio Nacional :

I can’t speak for others but I laugh at the quintessential farce of it all. I laugh at the most public humiliation of one of the most bigoted and supremacist institutions in the history of Scotland and our biggest rivals to boot. To ignore their shame is to deny they ever shamed both humanity and sport and perpetually held us and out like in contempt.

I can’t say I personally revel in their mire but I’d be a liar if I said I did not find it both amusing and fitting.

Even if Celtic were 100 points clear after 100 in a row I would still find their situation amusing andI would enjoy a comment or two on it. The fact that we are behind them is purely academic in my enjoyment.

  23. >> They could lose ten points and still win the league

Sure, if they play the team they have today with the drive and luck they have today against our own fragility, they probably will. However if they go into administration now, what are the chances of keeping those players?

  24. Alex Milosevic is 1.91356932m tall [approx].

He would be even taller but for an infamous ‘kung fu’ style blow to the head he received in a Swedish league game.

Despite the severity of the blow he laughed off any discomfort.

    ‘ha-ha-ha’ he said [approx].

  25. This is a repeat but slightly expanded post on something I wrote before. It’s good to see that amongst all the doom and gloom we are pulling in more than them in numbers if not as a potential of capacity. We’re getting in an average of 49.5k(82.6%) and they’re pulling 44.8k(89.6%). AS before the Derby at Ibrox and their first home game are removed as they have anomalously high attendances.

So were generating roughly £2.5M more than them in gates while they are reigning champions.

Let’s project that we win the league this season and they actually start to live as we do – within their means. What will that mean if the percentage attendances are reversed as I suspect they will be. If we are pulling 89.6% capacity that’s an average of 53.75k, whereas an 82.6% capacity for them is 41.3k. In terms of gate income that’s a difference of £6.2M.

£6M less income on top of the much quoted £7M drop in wages. The future looks bright, albeit the present is very dark.
