Celtic need to learn resuscitation methods

980

Celtic have lost in the game immediately after three of their previous four European games, shipping nine points which could be crucial in determining the destination of the championship, so it was not surprising they were below par for much of the game yesterday.  Fortunately, the Aberdeen goal came early enough to allow Celtic time to raise their game and respond.

How Celtic respond after European games will become even more crucial in the weeks ahead as they have visits to Motherwell, Dundee United and St Johnstone due after our next three Europa League games.  Any slim championship aspirations will be extinguished in these games if Celtic are unable to improve performance for the league challenge.

Ally McCoist is defying early predictions and grinding out impressive results for Rangers, who will seldom have started the league with such an impressive defensive record.  Six away wins from six games without conceding a goal is the kind of form it takes to win leagues.

Our more immediate challengers, Motherwell, dropped two points on Saturday, meaning we can go two points clear of them if we win our game in hand, however, the teams meet at Fir Park a week on Sunday (three days after Celtic play Rennes), in what looks like being a key game in our season.

  1. Nollaig a chara on

Y are our players on SSN asking people to support the Poppy day appeal….Wheather foe or against our players should not be used in this way….Shame again on our Board

  2. Nollaig a chara on

forgive the rant i really dont want to start a for/against debate but surely theres better things are players could be doing like practice defending or our strikers practing there shooting etc

  3. MO’N the favourite for the Leicester City job ?

Is there any way we could tempt him back to us in some capacity ? Could he motivate DD into investing more into our Club ? (If ever there was a man that needs motivating it’s DD) Martin O’Neil as a Director of Football makes plenty of sense to me. Could NL and MO’N work together ? Dream Team in my opinion.

  4. Nollaig a chara on

Martin left Aston Villa because of there lack of spending…I have a feeling it would be talking to a brickwall trying to gey Dermot to spend money that would upset the balance sheet

  5. What’s needed in our club is a whirlwind of enthusiasm.

Things are being allowed to go stale.

Better people than me who take the trouble to generate podcasts like Celtic Underground, Beyond The Waves, Lost Bhoys and Over and Over are finding excuses/reasons not to produce programmes with the same regularity they used to.

    Indifference is setting in.

Can someone tell me what the rule is when a player goes off injured and then wants to return to the field of play? The ref on Sunday had a terrible game and highlighted by not allowing Matthews back onto the field ( I think it was him).

Could someone also tell me how many times have Celtic players been booked / sent off for celebrating a goal against how many the Huns have had?

Some bloggers have blamed the board for going for the cheap option re manager. I think the board got scared off from going for someone who would spend millions and put the club into debt. The don’t / can’t go down the MON road anymore and I get that. Also most decent managers wouldn’t come to Scotland anyway even if they were paid a lot of money. They wouldn’t get the cash to buy big and the fishbowl mentality does go well with most. The board spent a lot of money getting Tony Mowbray and he got a budget which was wasted. The board supported TM but they were and still are unwillingly to get into major debt.

Watched the Hun game on Sunday night and they scored with their first shot on target and had 4 shots on target in the whole game. I thought it was only two but I did turn off when the second went it. They look ugly and play ugly but are getting the results. We will win our game in hand and beat them at Parkhead. They might even pick up a few injuries along the way.

The series is also tied 2-2 with games 6 and 7, if necessary, being held in St Louis on Wednesday and Thursday.

  8. Celts line up Swede stopper

By KENNY MacDONALD The Scottish Sun

CELTIC are ready to swoop for Swedish kid Alex Milosevic.

The talented young stopper is also being tracked by Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and Werder Bremen.

But sources in Sweden say Celtic could land highly-rated Milosevic, 19 for £1.5million.

Any move for the youngster by Hoops boss Neil Lennon will throw more doubt on the future of axed stopper Daniel Majstorovic who has lost his place in the starting line-up after a string of poor displays.

AIK defender Milosevic has already trained with the Parkhead side.

He spent a week with Celtic last January and his progress in the Swedish season — which ended last weekend — has seen him nominated for two top awards.

Milosevic admitted: “I spent a week training at Celtic earlier this year and really enjoyed it.

“Everyone made me feel very welcome and I’m flattered they wanted me to come to Scotland.

“There have been lots of things written about clubs looking at me, but I try to concentrate on learning my game.

“AIK is my local club and I like it in Stockholm.

“I have three years left on my contract, but Celtic is a big club.

“If the clubs can work something out, I would be interested.”

AIK spokesman Jens Andersson said: “Alex is a player who has created a lot of interest.

“Out of respect for the clubs, I won’t talk about them by name. But there is a lot of interest in him around Europe.

“He’s still under contract with us, but football is a business.”

A Celtic source said: “Milosevic is a proper defender and we know all about him.”

Speculation is rife in Sweden that Milosevic will leave in the winter break and AIK have already brought in his replacement in 17-year-old Edward Owusu.

Now Celts will step up their bid for Milosevic.

Might not be true but it is different.

Scottish Tims need to realize that the Donut has the Tims in moth balls until further notice.

All the drivel I hear spouted on CQN about players this and players that, manager this and managers that Huns this and Huns that. Waste of time. They have been hijacked until the hobbyist decides. Get used to it.

The fact that a supposed Celtic supporter allows the worst Hun team in 50 years to humiliate Celtic should speak volumes for all you Bored apologists. Two more things. The donut dreads the HMRC decision as much as the Huns do.

I also suspect that the donut will hold on to Celtic until the Ghost of his granny tells him to do the right thing or more likely he will just abandon Celtic. Celtic 2-1 Aberdeen. Hibs game Wednesday. Good for Tims. Big picture. Big vision for Celtic. Worthless.

Good points, its how long he can be allowed to moth ball us thats now the question.

Was thinking about that HarryBradyCU plan of fan ownership, as CU sadi it depends on DD going along with it, the fact DD is still here suggests he still thinks he can get his EPL dream and pay day. So why would he sell up to supporters or even someone who would pay todays rates for his shares?

I suspect it will take a lot of time and money to get DD out and get someone in who wants football success.

‘Get used to life in the slow lane’

DD and Lawwell have crashed us straight into the hard shoulder and have have not bothered phoning the AA, while the fans phone the other AA for another reason.

Thanks for enlightening me with this post and I’m sure you’ll understand that as someone who likes some factual evidence before making up my mind I’ll ignore your rant.

I wouldn’t consider myself satisfied with the board as I believe it has too many accountants and it’s strategy is too short-sighted, but neither would I consider myself one of those that castigates everything about the club and belittles those that don’t agree with their point of view. When you consider Manchester City pumped £6m into their under 19’s you have a better understanding of the financial situation facing Celtic.

As for this Rangers team I take them for what they are, a decent enough footballing team with some decent players, but they are the last remnants of the Murray football empire that was built on creative accountancy and they are destined for their day of reckoning. That reckoning will be provided by Neil Lennon’s team that outplayed them last year and I’m of the opinion he’ll gain a similar level of points against them this year and lead Celtic to the SPL.

Call me a foolish optimist but, hey, I think the Celtic support put the ‘TIM’ in opTIMist.

It is my contention that Greig and McLelland resigned from the Rangers board purely and simply because they both finally accepted – or were persuaded – that insolvency was imminent. They do not want to be there when the whole deck of cards comes tumbling down. Like rats deserting the sinking ship, although in reality, who could blame them for walking away before the brown stuff hits the fans?

Another central defensive project on the way? Will we ever learn. Experienced, centre half required to organise defence and carry out some basic defensive duties like header ball clear, and not to the opposition, tackle and win the ball, not fall over, cover runs, and not watch players run past you and through on goals.

  23. Reading one of the comments on RTC reminded me of a question I’ve repeatedly asked myself, with mounting incredulity: Did Craig Whyte actually and truly and genuinely hand over £18 million of real money?
