Celtic need to learn resuscitation methods

980

Celtic have lost in the game immediately after three of their previous four European games, shipping nine points which could be crucial in determining the destination of the championship, so it was not surprising they were below par for much of the game yesterday.  Fortunately, the Aberdeen goal came early enough to allow Celtic time to raise their game and respond.

How Celtic respond after European games will become even more crucial in the weeks ahead as they have visits to Motherwell, Dundee United and St Johnstone due after our next three Europa League games.  Any slim championship aspirations will be extinguished in these games if Celtic are unable to improve performance for the league challenge.

Ally McCoist is defying early predictions and grinding out impressive results for Rangers, who will seldom have started the league with such an impressive defensive record.  Six away wins from six games without conceding a goal is the kind of form it takes to win leagues.

Our more immediate challengers, Motherwell, dropped two points on Saturday, meaning we can go two points clear of them if we win our game in hand, however, the teams meet at Fir Park a week on Sunday (three days after Celtic play Rennes), in what looks like being a key game in our season.

McManus is the best centreback of the three you mentioned. he couldn’t organise, he was beaten in the air regularly,he dived in recklessly on many occasions and his use of the ball was atrocious.

if we are English championship level then lets recall our players and spend money on an experienced coach.

How many season has D0’D had to prove himself? A few, I can recall and never made the cut. Personally always liked him but assume he was rubbish trainer or something as he was constantly dropped.

I think it’s difficult to revisit Celtic treatment of some of the players you cite, as we were judging them when ambition/expectatations were different. By current standards and in full knowledge that we can expect nothing but freebies and loans from here on in..they start to look better than when we had bigger ambitions..?

  3. Protestant refs in a Protestant country what does that tell you or maybe the para’s ripping right out of me.

I wonder why when celtic play rangers and on skysports the commentator needs to remind us collum is a RC hmmm..

    My thoughts as well.

It will be interesting come the vote whether to allow the hun straight back into the spl, what will the board do?

Some well respected posters think they will vote against, others think not.

Whatever they choose, I hope they make the right decision for the long term future of the club, and that is a no vote.

I believe they could lose roughly half of ST holders if they vote yes, and that would be the end imo.

They deserve to be punished for their folly, and they deserve to suffer, like the rest of scottish football has suffered, and is still suffering because of their actions.

I haven’t got around to sorting the pics as yet, the grandweans are taking up all my spare time, they are here for the next ten days, will sort it when they are away, I am trying to do it from start to the finish, from the field to the processing plant.

    ======================

On this point, I think our board will vote no (they couldn’t be that stupid, could they?), fully aware that the rest of the SPL will vote yes. There’s more at stake for the other ten SPL teams than us and turkeys don’t vote for Christmas.

Getting PL on board is a scoop for the sfa, but will be a false sence of security if shareholders get their act together, it’s the individual shareholder who has been shafted.

Managers who would have them ?

At least we still have DoD and Joos on the books, they might yet play a part in our clubs history, DoD is way better imo than what we have presently, he has matured big time, he is up against better player week in week out, and is coping very well, he also coped well against what the euro threw at him, Joos, haven’t seen much, but the reports are good.

I agree with the sentiments. I was willing to accept a loanee return because of our injury record and not because I expect O’Dea or Hooveld to be radically different.

My preference would be to see Ramis come to Celtic but we may not have the money for that.

Players need to know if they come to Celtic they have to take their chance or it’s bye bye. Good, ambitious players welcome that challenge.

Of course most scottish refs will have come from a non-RC background, reflecting the demographics of the country.

I don’t want more RC refs to re-dress the balance. I want fairer refereeing from all denominations (and none) within the refs community. I felt we got fairer reffing from Craig Thompson ( I am assuming he is not RC) than we got from Collum last season. Brines and Stevie O’Reilly are equal opportunities incompetents, regardless of their (I assume) RC background.

Indeed,Leeds United are six points behind Southampton, but have a game in hand.

Statistics do not reveal the full picture…Leeds got off to a poor start, having a player sent-off in four consecutive games, putting more pressure on our Hunskelping Defender.(Who stands at 6’1’….not under six feet..and amazingly, can heid the ba’ with power and direction).

Taxi for Dan,Loovens….New legs for Rogne.Kelvin….Jury still out.

Paddy looked around,to pick out Zheng Zi,then opted to shoot for goal from an ACUTE angle.

  14. Cults Bhoy

MON could have snapped his fingers and got back to CP at any time he wanted after he left.

He would choose Sunderland before Celtic even if salaries were equal. Don’t know if his pride would let him return to Leicester though.

I fear we have a serious number of MON love-sick puppies in our support who imagine he’d come back if we spent a bit more, or if PL left. I think that is a delusion and not a harmless one. It is more distracting than talking about Rangers

  15. This is something I’ve posted before:

Imagine you are a professional footballer and you want to do what all professional footballers want to do – Win

Imagine you are professional football manager and all you want to do is what all professional football managers want to do – Win

Imagine you have situation where your biggest competitors face severe repercussions due to dubious financial practices and the board who should be supporting you, appear not to be.

Imagine the effect that would have on your on field and management performances.

Something is not right at Celtic Park just now, we all know it. There is more to Celtic’s recent demise than meets the eye.

  16. My dear,dear,dear,dear,friend.. Cultsbhoy

    Pal..

    That is a Tricky question..

    No a Simple wan.at awaw.at awe///.but, Ah wull gie it a Shot.

    The Answer is..

    It Depends.

It depends oan the Age of the Player.

The Younger he is.. the Longer Ah wull gie Him tae find His Feet.

Noo some players never dae find thur Feet..like.. well.. Flood..

he wiz fairly young.. but, it wiz obvious that if appeared to me that he wid Not IMPROVE..

    and he Didnae.. Improve..

    So..

And that is Anither Criterion that must be fulfilled afore Ah wid Mak a Judgment oan a Player’s Worth tae us..

If A Player Disnae Improve.. after.. Several… Ten? Outings in the First Team, .

as A STARTER… canny judge a Player oan..his only appearances being Substitutions

Then it is “Aff wi’ his Heid”

This conclusion could be taken.. after Half A Season.

So you can see that there is no simple answer tae yer query..

    Howevah..

As soon as Ah noted Impovement in a New Player.. Ah wid then be Most

  17. TSD

Darren O’Dea’s 6ft 1 in has him as smaller than Dan, K.Wilson and Hooveld. Rogne is the same height and Loovens height is recorded as 5ft 8, 5ft 10 and 6 ft 5 depending on what site you read so it’s hard to be definitive.

Anyway, would you not rule Darren out because he is a socialist? :-)

  18. But look at it from my point of view.

You have a protestant country with mostly protestant referees and now you mention Craig Thompson does he not do contract work for rangers.

Come off it a top ref in Scotland who is Protestant and who gets paid from rangers geez a break favours for favours and I will remind you of the cup last season we lost. That went to extra time we should’ve got a stonewall pen and this could’ve put us in the lead or maybe I’m Defo too para.

We will always believe that refs are biased against us and we have often had good evidence. But I’d rather they declared their club allegiance ( and Masonic or OO affiliations) than their religion.

And another thing….Darren has been playing at Left Back for Leeds Utd. this season, and played in the same position for Ipswich last season…..versatility.

Much better to have kept Joe Ledley at Left mid, with Darren slotting in at LB ,if required, where he looks more effective than Charlie.

Also, cannot see El K being retained after January….he’ll be away with Morocco from the first week in January, playing in the Africa Cup,with the final on 12th Feb.

    Morocco one of favourites.

We should certainly not rush Izzy back from injury….he gets more sore ones in games than any other player in the SPL..

Better to get him properly fit for next season.

    Forward Planning,Lennie….
