Celtic set for HJK Helsinki in Champions League qualifier

679

Celtic will almost certainly face HJK Helsinki in the third qualifying round of the Champions League.  The Fins are 7-0 after the first leg of their second qualifying round against KR Reykjavik.

HJK were the first team to beat Martin O’Neill’s Celtic as they overcame a first leg deficit in the 2000 Uefa Cup to force the tie into extra time.  Chris Sutton scored late to prevent the tie going to penalty kicks.  HJK are also top of their domestic league after 17 games, so will be a well-oiled machine by the time the arrive at Celtic Park on 31 July or 1 August.

The Co-op is increasing what it pays farmers for milk, so we should go there; or in the case of Gerald Butler get your butler to go there.

  3. Why is anyone surprised that half way through the transfer window we have signed no one?

As long ago as November, Neil Lennon was talking about the need for a quality centre half and a big physically dominating striker.

There is no chance of either of these being acquired before the money for sold player or players is in the bank.

By that time, as usual only the dross of the market will be available and we will possibly be out of CL.

Can anybody tell me what is the point of scouring the world for sell on talent when there is no intention, and there is no such intention, of meaningfully spending the profits?

So we’re still around in 125 year un like THE R*NGERS

    You have highlighted the problem.

Too many people connected with Celtic concerning themselves with Rangers.

Put our own house in order.

Strengthen the squad now and eliminate any chance of a humiliating cup tie defeat by a third division side.

I don’t know how to take that remark,I’m looking for a joke hidden in there somewhere, but no,I’m coming into Glasgow for a wee swalley with a few friends tomorrow, and after the wee swalley I don’t think I’ll be able to cut anything.

Tell me my good doctor.I’ve just received my membership to the business class at Celtic Park for the coming season, will it be okay to have a drink with you guys in BBs before I head into the lounge for a pie and a pint at Celtic Park.

  12. Against my better judgement I decided to listen to this podcast.

    http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/football/

The unanimous consensus of the rat pack was that

    1. no honours should be stripped. regardless of how Rangers broke the rules on double contracts, it was 11 v 11 on the park.

    2. Rangers have been punished enough, time to move on.

    3. There’s no such thing as sporting integrity.

    4. If Rangers are stripped of titles then Manchester United should be too- in debt to the tune of 750 million,

    I know I know……I got what I deserved.

  13. We need to buy Jordan Rhodes NOW…

He will become a combination of Brian McClair and Chris Sutton for us….

And he is actually keen to PLAY for Celtic

    Go Get Him,Donut……

I fully concur with Celtic First…

Sell a midfielder before the window closes…Ki must go ( as he has not extended his contract )

    Not even ‘speculating to accumulate’…

    Anything less is ‘Administrative Glaucoma’…..

Signing Jordan Rhodes should take priority over getting an adequate CH,at this point of the season….

And if Celtic don’t have increased profits this season,my name is Kojo…..

    Right ? Right !

Nope that is the first time ever.

I am sceptical about that because of certain things, the Bible is, IMO, the only guidance we should have and it warns about events like Our Lady of Akita. John tells us to test the spirits. The wikipedia page has alarming stuff numerologically, whether that is occultists flashing it or otherwise I certainly don’t know.

I hope you are doing well anyway old chap and keep on trucking and stirring that massive pot you have. :))

  19. how come neil lennon contradicts everything neil lennon says?

girst he says celtic dont need rangers & that celtic f.c have a financial plan that dont involve rangers in the spl, only to come out a few weeks later & say we need to trim our spending due to the rangers situation.

then he says that celtic have a few transfer targets which will be pushed through when we return from our pre-season tour of germany only to go & renege on that promise with this latest statement.

what do lawell & desmond actually do for celtic fc?

if we dont get a centre back b4 the qualifiers, we can kiss european football goodbye; along with wanyama, izzy & (posssibly) hooperman!

  23. My God, you lot are really getting boring. Celtic may sign players in the next week, they may not. What will be will be, and I have enough faith in NL and the team to believe that we will through against HJK (though I think the tie will be tough).

What I find utterly laughable is that sooooo many of you fly off the handle at what you read in the Scottish newspapers. Really? You still read the Scottish newspapers? Have you learned nothing from the last 2 years? Nothing at all???

    I need a lie down.

  24. Is there anything stopping Celtic signing a stand-alone TV deal, with say BT Vision, to show away matches not covered by Sky or ESPN? Not quite sure what the legal and other implications are/would be in all this ‘though. Ian Livingston the CEO of BT, as we know, is a Celtic PLC board member so maybe we should ask him!
