Celtic set for HJK Helsinki in Champions League qualifier

679

Celtic will almost certainly face HJK Helsinki in the third qualifying round of the Champions League.  The Fins are 7-0 after the first leg of their second qualifying round against KR Reykjavik.

HJK were the first team to beat Martin O’Neill’s Celtic as they overcame a first leg deficit in the 2000 Uefa Cup to force the tie into extra time.  Chris Sutton scored late to prevent the tie going to penalty kicks.  HJK are also top of their domestic league after 17 games, so will be a well-oiled machine by the time the arrive at Celtic Park on 31 July or 1 August.

  1. Clearly the sept date has been agreed to allow sevco time to prepare a squad for an all out attack on the harry ramsden smoked haddock cup…….let them shuffle thru every car boot sale going, unless some metals magnate has a bundle of cash to invest chasing moonbeams they wont have the cash or the draw to entice anyone to asbestosville. Now wheres that FTT and EBT outcome?

  2. Afternoon all,

So the crazy deal the huns made with the SFA means that that little pr..sorry, toad Black from Hearts will sign for them. That must be good news for every team in the SPL.

  8. the transfer embargo will apply BETWEEN transfers – haha welcome to hunland – disgraceful !

and all transfers will be funded by the SFA, just to cushion the blow

    same as it ever was

  9. I’m sure lots of players are getting really excited now at the thought of signing for Sevco and playing in the 4th tier of Scottish football.

    Who cares about them!

  10. All this goes one whilst Campbell “EBT” Ogilvie is somehow STILL in his SFA post. It’s laughable that the likes of Regan thinks we are fooled by this.

I’m past the point where I can get angry about these things, what can you do but just laugh at the sheer cynicism of it all?

Yet ANOTHER embarrassment for the SFA.

  12. Auld Neil Lennon heid on

There would be no point whatsover admitting Sevco into the SFL with the size of their current squad so something had to give to keep them alive in some shape or form.

The high earners will go to be replaced by journeymen and they will find a level.

The tricky bit if they get promotion will be signing to strengthen next year by which time saving them might be the least of a totally discredited SFA.s concerns.

  13. We need a British Football Association.

We were assured last year that the SFA had changed, had cleaned up its act, that its procedures were now open and accountable.

Is anyone still prepared to argue that’s the case?

  14. Estadio Nacional on

Not the best of draws, dont think we can let the 26th July signing deadline for this one pass without getting the players the manager wants.

I’ll probably regret this but Im happy with the centre halves we have if Rogne can keep fit we should let him in Chico Muldini form a partnership, a settled partnership is what we have needed for a few years rather than a new centre half.

The manager has clearly identified he needs a striker, get him one before 26th July.

When we hear this sort of bull from the ex rangers supporters, we need to remind them of the following:

    1. no honours should be stripped. regardless of how Rangers broke the rules on double contracts, it was 11 v 11 on the park.

Vmhan retort – AND THE 11 PLAYERS RANGERS (IN LIQUIDATION) PUT ON THE PARK WERE BOUGHT USING TAX PAYERS MONEY AND RANGER FC NEVER PAID TAX ON THE PLAYERS WAGES, CELTIC FC OF COURSE DID, CAN YOU SEE THE OBVIOUS FINANCIAL ADVANTAGE?

    2. Rangers have been punished enough, time to move on.

Vmhan retort – RANGERS HAD AN AUTOMATIC 10 POINT DEFICIT WHEN GOING INTO ADMINISTRATION, THEY ARE IN LIQUIDATION AND HAVE NOT BEEN PUNISHED FOR THAT, NOR HAVE THEY BEEN PUNISHED YET FOR INCORRECT REGISTERING OF PLAYERS, NOR HAVE THEY BEEN PUNISHED BY TAKING THEIR APPEAL ON PLAYER BAN TO THE LAW COURTS, UEFA ARE WATCHING THIS AND EXPECT THE HUNS TO BE PUNISHED.

    3. There’s no such thing as sporting integrity.

Vmhan retort – BOLLOCKS OR JUST SAY, NOT WHEN RANGERS (IN LIQUIDATION) ARE AROUND, (REMEMBER AND SMILE AT THIS POINT).

    4. If Rangers are stripped of titles then Manchester United should be too- in debt to the tune of 750 million.

Vmhan retort – BOLLOX AGAIN AND ALSO, MAN U HAVEN’T CHEATED HER MAJESTY’s TAX MAN, OR FRAUDULENTLY REGISTERED PLAYERS FOR OVER 15 YRS, RANGERS IN LIQUIDATION HAVE.

  17. Needed a laugh, so I went over to HunMedia- some guy calling himself the GOAT posted the following confused rambling monologue of an escaped lunatic completely oblivious to Objective Reality:

If the goal in all this is to rid the country of the The Rangers the powers that be are going to be sorely dissapointed and I mean sorely, like a chaffed groin kinda sore. Yes they are doing a good job at present, but it will not last. Its like when the guys in the white overalls take ma Kestrel and ma Lambert & Butler away then a just drink something else, like lighter fluid or take the leg aff ma bed and set it oan fire so I can get the fumes aff it…we shall overcome as we march over the hills all in a row for we are the people, Gods flute fiddling flock. I have more HATRED for the timothys than I have ever had in my life and now I HATE all the other clubs too, the SFA, SPL, SNP, IRA, SAS, CIA, FBI, DSS…Yoko Ono and Barry Manilow…I even hate the Adidas trainers a stole aff wee Peter fae doon the stair fae me cause iz maw hid a GREEN shower matt…and I know whit that meant. I put eez trainers in my cockaleeke soup yesterday and ate them wae a buttered roll. Then theres ma Uncle Billy’s Vauxhall Astra. A told him that I was gonna torch it when he went tae his bed. He thinks am bluffin’ bit am no cause am always playin wae fire. Wan time I set ma erm oan fire when a wiz playing wae some Old Spice deodarant and a zippo lighter. The don’t know it yet but they b******s have only created a monster, an Orange Frankenstein wae a big furrowed mono brow. It will turn on them soon enough…so BYE, BYE…..SPL.

I know this is the bears den but i would just like to wish all European teams who play spl sides in the next few weeks all the best. Great to see Erskinbunnyhoppers hammer St Johnstone as it shows Europe what a wee silly diddy league the spl has become, what a laugh it will be, like when you don’t take the meds, to see all the spl teams out of Europe by August and then look forward to 9 months of dross and total non event football. And by the way from now on we should operate a transfer policy: only sign players who can sing the Billy boys…made us the best side in the country for over 100 years, just like a Britishness test fur Johnny foreigner like Nick Griffin says when he comes here oan the back ae a Sainsbury’s lorry, so lets start again f*** it, we started to fail when we let them play for us and it weakened us from the inside. It polluted us, contaminanated us way their Chapel insence and their hail maries. Let’s have one. It’ll be like contrisepshun or something Not this pish that the mhedia made up about us not signing catholics. A mean we canny ever sign Irish catholics or anything like that but if their English and they ur good enough then aye. Let’s follow in the example of Bilbao etc. and only sign British players. Could even just make it Scottish and Northern Irish players if you wanted. Might take us longer to rise to the top, but with a young squad of British players who slowly begin to creep into their national teams (English aside obviously) we could become a force, like gravity or whatever. Plus how much of a GIRFUY would it be to the SFA and all the wee diddy clubs, if when we’re back in the SPL and the Scotland team is made up of pretty much all Rangers who know the words of the sash and who could spell Ian Paisley’s name backwards?. Might also make us a wee bit less hated (not that we should care what these f*** think), as I think in recent time us constantly bringing in foreign mercenaries didn’t help the clubs image at all. F*** the lot of them: Dan Brown, Lao Tzu, the Mona Lisa, O’Regan, OJ Simpson, Midge Ure, Steeley Dan, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Peter Lawell, Rodger Moore…their aw in oan it. Forget about them and let’s start to support OUR team. THE team. Let the rest fight amongst themselves like pigeons over a piece of a Greggs pastie in George Square.

Have you ever seen a Seagull swoop down after a while and take the precious wee morsel away from the pigeons?

It takes a while… but if you stay long enough it ALWAYS happens.

Bring on the new season. F*** the rest. Support our own. Time to leave them to the crumbs.

Eloquently put. I too, hope this Membership Scheme comes to pass sooner rather than later.

At a time when Der Hunnes and their friends in the media are clinging onto dear life for everything that is corruptible in sport with an out pouring of hatred for anyone with the decency to stand up to them, stand up for what is morally right on and off the park, we badly need a new incentive at this time.

I dont know about anyone else but after what that despicable shower across the city have done to Scotland’s reputation, the rest of us across the country regardless of what team we follow needs a-pick-me-up.

A Celtic Membership scheme, that would allow the ethos of the club to reach out beyond these shores, across the world, leading the way in charitable actions and bonding a world wide support is just the ticket for the Celtic family.

Scotland badly needs us at the moment, to lead the way especially at a time when our Protestant brothers and sisters across the city have brought and continue to bestow so much shame on our country and its people. I dont in any shape or for mean that to be sectarian. I’m just stating a simple fact.

What i mean to say is you would be hard pushed to find a shred of decency in anything their spokespeople have to say. Where is their shame? Where is their dignity?

So much for the Protestant work ethic and Presbyterian values such as honesty, valor, and integrity.

See if the shoe was on the other foot I’d like to think there were leaders amongst us, whether it be Directors, Supporter Affiliation spokespeople, whomever, that would step forward without any duress from others, apologise for all the wrongdoing, ask for forgiveness and as a gesture of our sincerity amend our own history books to show no gain for any of the disputed years in question.

i’d want us to wash our hands of this dirty business as quickly as possible whilst retaining whatever dignity we could that comes from a good act of contrition.

I’ll say this much about them rthat’s become very apparent during this scandal, without the Cofessional they dont half suffer from the sin of pride.

I’m not having a go at the decent prods out there. they are our Christian brothers and sisters and are in plentiful supply but where are they at Rangers? Surely there must be some of them somewhere? Or arey they just too ashamed to show themselves? If there are any of them left at all why dont they do the decent thing and speak out or reclaim the club from these low life miscreants like Traynor, Derek Johnstone, Dingwall etc that purport to represent them?

It’s breathtaking standing back and watch the depths they are willing to sink?

Listen to their media friends,ex players, managers the lot. It simply beggars belief that their whole barrel is rotten?

Is their not one decent human being amongst them willing to speak out and do the right thing without having to be dragged kicking and screaming at every single turn? Cant they see how cowardly they are, not facing up to the truth?

It’s pitiful. I never thought pity would be an emotion I’d feel towards Der Hunnes more than contempt. I pity how morally weak they are.

Hell mend them. Sorry, I digress.

Lets get this Membership Scheme thing off the ground Celtic. sooner rather than later please, before the rest of Scotland sinks beyond repair.

If Catholic values has to drag this corrupt sport in Scotland of it’s knees then so be it. we’ll show them the way. Hopefully there’s enough decent Prods from the dark side that will waken up and follow.

  23. Evening bhoys, seriously hot, but hun free as ever.

Saw the news earlier, a transfer ban that starts after the window, expected, it’s scotland after all.

No an easy draw in the CL, even harder if we get past the Finns.

Not happy with the suits, nothing new there then.

We are not giving ourselfs a decent chance of serious money, we can afford wha tLenny wants, the wages we have saved would get us a decent CH, a striker, fair enough we may have to sell first, but Lenny has been after a CH for long enough now, we even commited to buy one, his injury scuppered that deal, did we have plan B ? no looking like it.

    Shocking management form PL.

Does he think we are that stupid to believe the lies ??????

If we spend and don’t get through, offload a couple more, it’s no rocket science PL.

Good point and I know its all about the timing with these things but I get jittery when the manager has identified an area for improvement and we dont action it before crucial games. An injury or lack of form from Gary Hooper/Anthony Stokes and we could struggle, both have previous for going out of form for lengthy periods.
