Celtic set for HJK Helsinki in Champions League qualifier

679

Celtic will almost certainly face HJK Helsinki in the third qualifying round of the Champions League.  The Fins are 7-0 after the first leg of their second qualifying round against KR Reykjavik.

HJK were the first team to beat Martin O’Neill’s Celtic as they overcame a first leg deficit in the 2000 Uefa Cup to force the tie into extra time.  Chris Sutton scored late to prevent the tie going to penalty kicks.  HJK are also top of their domestic league after 17 games, so will be a well-oiled machine by the time the arrive at Celtic Park on 31 July or 1 August.

Agreed. Average attendances of 9-12k tops imo.

When the hun realises that they have shamed the decent fans in their support beyond the point of no return it will be too late. they wont be back.

Is he expected to make a full recovery?

Sounded like a very well scouted player especially as you had gave him a lot of the old Rocky stuff about fighting back from earlier disappointments in England.

  3. Can anyone draw up a list of the rules that have actually been broken, bent or completely ignored by the SFA, SPL, newco, D+F… I think we know the list. I would do it myself but I am erm… busy just now. I think the MSM would like to see it in black and white so there can be no arguments.

Damn it I want diagrams and pie charts!!!

  4. I’ll post again.

If anyone can score any tickets for the final performance of “Stones in his Pockets” at The Tron tomorrow night, they should grab them. I guarantee a great show.

huns at shawfeild is not a bad idea, the last team to play ther got sent to Cumbernauld.

Maybe the next team could be sent to East Kilbride, the ultimate punishment.

You would think after all thats gone on anyboldy associated with the daft wee new huns would be embarassed to even talk about tranfers.

    ————————————————————————

Surely FIFA/UEFA would take a very dim view of Der Hunnes engaging in any transfer activity whilst they member clubs have outstanding monies owed?

Obviously the SFA have checked this first. i just find it very strange UEFA/FIFA would have agreed to it.

Strange precedents being set in this Hun crisis.

  9. Timbhoy2 have you not noticed the developments around Celtic Park, looking pretty good and more to come. And as for the parking that will be sorted also, think it is in the plans that we will park within the veledrome grounds. Get a life man the hun are in divi 3.

    Rogne and Samaras.

In my opinion Rogne, whilst a good player is too injury prone and is young in years. There is no guarantee that an experienced new CH would stay free of injury. Then of course he needs to settle in. However, I would go out now and buy a CH that could walk into the team with Rogne as backup.

Samaras, there is no bigger fan of him than myself. I have always stood up for him but he is not a goal scorer. He is a special type of player and should be used tactically when playing certain teams, especially when we need to play one up front. In my opinion we have not replaced Chris Sutton or John Hartson. We have suffered immensely since the aforementioned left. If we could find somebody in their ilk, we would have somebody that will bang in twenty plus a season and would give a lot more assists to Hooper.

I agree with Shimmies33, every Club, especially us should look to freshen up the team every season. Most Clubs do.

I like many feel that we should bring in a CH and a striker now and not wait until we qualify for the UCL stages. I do not agree with the strategy that we will wait to see what happens. However, PL seems to be of the opinion that is what should be done.

I predict that if we do qualify, we will bring in two high profile players, probably on loan.

Ki will be sold for around £7 million, if so we will spend some on a CH.

Any striker coming in will be dependent on Murphy being offloaded.

If we do not qualify for UCL, Hooper may be sold.

    Keep the Faith!

Figure this..Bummer told fans not to buy season books while Hughie Green was in office. We’re told that under 500 have bought them. Official home gates include SB’s even when not used (same goes for us). So on that note I cant see any more than 15000 regularly paying in to see them, and less to watch them play Elgin or Annan in mid-January. You will get the obvious defiant reaction of maybe 30000 for the first home game, belting out the bootleg hymnsheet but as Gerry McNee once said ‘they’ll be like snow off a dyke’. Loyal they certainly aint.

A Transfer Embargo? Look at the rest.

Point 1. It doesn’t matter if we think this format is ‘better’ or ‘worse’ the question is………. is this an appropriate sanction applied properly?

Answer: it is NOT properly applied because it should have been IMMEDIATE and BACK DATED to the original point of application. That would have been right.

The SFA are therefore guilty of bending the rules to suit sevco and Green. That is WRONG.

    but

look below this point to the main issue…………

sevco will accept any more punishment for oldco bringing the game INTO DISREPUTE but this HAS been dealt with.

That means by implication that any other issues such as DUAL CONTRACTS are NOT accepted and NOT PART OF THE DEAL.

This is the real news. The SFA has set aside any other or further punishment for severe wrongdoing.

    Feel stung yet?

    Remember…………… this is a sting!

Jaroslaw Fojut is after artroscophy. Next operation ligaments reconstruction early next month in Liverpool. He hopes to be back to big football in March next week.

In that long interview he spoke about why the injury happened, what were his hopes regarding Celtic and many other things. Big part of the interview about Celtic.

He was not treated well at Slask. Played under huge pressure. Legia Warsaw fan, contracted to Celtic Glasgow. When rejected contract with Slask and signed for Celtic some fans told him to desert.

Very ambitious, wanted to be the best for Slask and ready for Celtic. The injury was not the accident. Got it in one of the games, not told much anybody and in the next game played with painkillers until got another hit in the same knee.

He said that Celtic was his dream that came true but then gone.

So charlie & co can start puntin whats left of the current squad, safe in the knowledge that the sevco fans will be claiming a moral victory (surely one or two must know what‘s going on), whilst their scribes in the MSM dangle fairytales of professional footballers wanting to play part-timers in the bottom division, as replacements.

For me, the Achilles heel of the old rangers club was always their own support. Every time they nearly got somewhere or achieved something, the old self destruction gene kicked-in.

Charlie can now sook the bones whilst the DR & sun punt their daft wee transfer exclusives.

How are this new club going to manage to get a licence to play football in view of the need for 3 years of audited accounts?

This SFA decision still smacks to me of them keeping their tainted history, that is my opinion and I know it is the opposite of my first question, however the cheating and colluding continues.

We are so lightweight in defence and attack I shudder to think what might happen to us against half decent champs league opposition.

In saying that qualification is a means to an end in revenue streams so I’d be delighted if we made it even though matters on the field could be difficult to watch

murphy will be decent enough cover for spl bruising encounters as he can mix it up a bit when he has to

as for hooper being for the off? i would imagine the vast majority of the fist team squad want to be elsewhere playing at a higher level with the exception of the weans wanting to learn their trade for a while yet.
