Celtic set for HJK Helsinki in Champions League qualifier

679

Celtic will almost certainly face HJK Helsinki in the third qualifying round of the Champions League.  The Fins are 7-0 after the first leg of their second qualifying round against KR Reykjavik.

HJK were the first team to beat Martin O’Neill’s Celtic as they overcame a first leg deficit in the 2000 Uefa Cup to force the tie into extra time.  Chris Sutton scored late to prevent the tie going to penalty kicks.  HJK are also top of their domestic league after 17 games, so will be a well-oiled machine by the time the arrive at Celtic Park on 31 July or 1 August.

(repost to finish where my fingers had not caught up with my brain)

You are singing from the song sheet as me with regard to involving the World Wide Celtic support, but the epicentre of the Celtic world is the centre spot at Celtic park and everything reverberates from there.

What I mean by that is everyone who has support for Celtic and the incredible ethos on which it is founded in their heart, is a part of the world wide suppport.

Some are lucky enough to attend in person, others for various reasons, geography, finance, health etc cannot do that but would willingly share the load of supporting if the mechanism existed to do so.

There has been a change in the development of the Membership Scheme but one that is so much in line with our ethos I welcome it warmly should it come into being.

I cannot say much more until the ins and outs are thought through and the green light given, which I hope will be sooner rather than later but be assured that your thinking very much resonates with those at Celtic looking at how to develop matters.

The more folk in the wide Celtic world who buy into the concept that supporting Celtic is something all supporters can play a part in, to not only share the load, but spread the charitable Celtic ethos out into a world that badly needs reminding that it is love that counts, not love of money, the better a place the world will be.

Now THAT is some legacy to leave our children and grandchildren.

Would he get away with locking the door on kids nowadays?

(I know a lot of parents do it,to keep the little sods out,so as to enjoy some quality time, but that’s not quite the same)

Is it possible that our hero was once locked out,and vowed to become the bestest bestest ever if he was only allowed one more chance?

And do you think it is even remotely possible that the real reason he was late was a strike by the rail unions?

By jings,I think we have it!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the tip-off,bud. 50% of the credit is yours…..

Thanks for the insight, its great to know its a work in progress and hopefully it will all come to fruition sooner rather than later, as you say.

The potential of Celtic is absolutely massive but as we all know we operate with one(or both) hands tied behind our back in the current market.

The worldwide support can help the club on an ongoing basis hopefully via the membership scheme- we have to be confident about its success as our worldwide support is an active one(CSC’s everywhere) in comparison to the likes of the millions of Man Utd supporters worldwide…they ‘pick’ Man Utd, but they don’t have it in their heart the way the ex-pat Scots and Irish Celtic fans do, and new supporters we pick up along the way are not just in it for the glory of supporting the Champions league finalists every year. Theres something more there too.

We have more supporters clubs in the east coast of the USA than any other European club I believe.

We have to hope the worldwide support can help catapult us to the next few levels. You’re right about the charitable aspect too- it can only help attract supporters to the club.

And if our support can do this, we will truly be able to say we did it ourselves, and not thanks to some billionaire or having unsustainable debt levels or an unrealistic TV deal.

Especially when little Philvis’ (and mine to be fair) parents were paying handsomely for the privilege of being taught. He did let the late arriving pupils in, but only after the daily quiz was completed, based on the 10 minutes homework he asked every child to complete the following evening. That is all. But it must be done EVERY night with 1 evening off homework during term – Christmas Day. If you followed this rule, you were guaranteed an A at Higher.

To say this man made an impact on young Philvis I would guess is almost certain…

  12. Celtic_First on

I agree with PeteC about Auldheid’s very heartening message on membership scheme developments.

In the immediate term, supporters all over the world can already make an important, affordable and rewarding contribution to Celtic by subscribing to Celtic TV. The club should do more to push Celtic TV, I think. It’s great value for money and the quality is all right.

We can strengthen the team without a net spend. We could buy a 30-goal-a-season striker for the money a midfielder would bring in. We could buy now, play the new player in the qualifiers, and sell a current member of the squad later if needed (if we don’t make the CL groups).

This is speculating to accumulate, but with a safety net.

It is a very boring discussion with a bunch of nodding heads, always agreeing with each other, and besides,I usually learn something I didn’t previously know,as they are more likely to read something which I would avoid.

    And vice-versa,of course.

I stand and salute as I post:

    “RST Board Statement

The RST is angered at the suggestion Rangers should be stripped of nine trophies won since 2000. This is a ludicrous suggestion from discredited individuals in two governing bodies whose behaviour has brought Scottish football to the brink of collapse due to their lack of competence.

Not content with Rangers’ relegation to the third division and the loss of the vast majority of our first team pool, these vindictive and sinister individuals wish to hamstring the club further by imposing an effective ban on new signings.

The pomposity of suggesting that a kangaroo court impose penalties for alleged breaches of the operation of EBTs whilst three judges continue to consider the case in a tax tribunal is staggering.

The recently leaked wish-list of sanctions strains the credulity of any sentient human being that such juvenile mind-games are being played at this time of crisis for the whole Scottish game.

The RST urges the Board of Rangers Football Club to remain resolute and refuse to consider such ludicrous and vindictive sanctions. The club and fans have suffered enough and do not deserve and will not accept additional punishments for the crimes or omissions of others imposed by bodies whose own credibility is in tatters.

Our manager has been inspirational in leading the club over the last five months and we urge all to follow his example in refusing to consider sanctions which impinge on sporting endeavour and fairness. ”

    Amen to that.
