I’m not convinced that any meeting of minds between Celtic and Legia Warsaw to allow the latter to take the place of the former in the Champions League play-off round would be recognised by Uefa. Having researched as thoroughly as possible, I’ve found no precedent for such an arrangement to be invoked.
It would, therefore, probably be safe for Celtic to take the high moral ground and acquiesce with Legia, but that would be a cheap shot at being generous, Celtic have no intentions of becoming involved, whether they have the opportunity or not.
The utter distress Legia are enduring because of an administrative oversight will cause untold damage. The club have to try everything possible, including an appeal which invokes Willie Maley and Jock Stein, but they must find a clear path through Uefa, which does not appear to exist.
What Celtic can do, is appeal to Uefa to have processes changed, just as we did in 1970 when we profited from the toss of a coin. Instead of clubs having the responsibility of checking available players, they could be issued with the same list the Uefa observer had on Wednesday, making this mistake less likely.
Current processes allow a minor infraction to cause disproportionate harm to a football club, and the tournament itself. Celtic should not hesitate in saying so.
Registration partially tightens tonight on player eligibility for our Champions League play-off round against NK Maribor. After today, clubs can only add one player to their squad for these games.
While it is important to get players in ahead of Maribor, I’m not convinced the arrivals will be able to have a transformational impact. It will largely be those already at Lennoxtown who will exorcise the demons of Murrayfield.
For what it’s worth, Maribor think they are absolute certainties to progress. Planning to analyse them in detail tomorrow; I’m not betting against them.
I was mystified as to how relegated Hearts managed to win away from home in their first game as a lower league club but now I’ve heard Ally McCoist blame the off-field input of Charles Green it all makes sense. How could any footballer reasonably expect to put in a shift with a former director speaking to the media some time earlier?
Delighted to hear the Daily Record swooped in to asset this as the reason for Newco Rangers demise yesterday. It’s the same deflection as went on during Murray/Whyte/Green years all over again. Why do they do this to themselves?
Let’s hope Ally sticks to his guns are clings to that contract like a fudge doughnut.

Marrakesh….
UEFA would bite our hands off!!!
Celtic need to stand firm as the wholly innocent party, no matter the draconian result from an actually straight forward regulation. The only way Celtic could be tempted, given our balance sheet obsession would be some form of financial compensation from the CL money…
Never going to happen.

They forfeited the second leg so we were awarded a 3-0 win. Had they scored one of their two missed penalties at home and beat us 5-1 they would have went through 5-4 on aggregate
*not so, the initial punishment is 3-0 unless that still favours the offending side…..if so then the score line escalates until the offending team is eliminated…..makes sense
No, you are wrong, it only escalates if the actual score was more than 3-0, so if you get beat 5-0 you will forfeit the game by the same score (a bit silly really given you had already lost, but that’s what the rule says) It will not escalate to put you out, it only deals with the game you cheated in

“the more difficult your hoovering up of perceived negativity about Celtic becomes, – good luck.”
There ain’t a hoover powerful enough.
I had a wee chuckle reading some stuff posted on here where there was a whole page of brave bhoys saying “you are not allowed to criticise the Board on here(CQN)” whilst getting tore in on the self-same subject. I don’t know if it reads as childish, to the posters, as it does to the readers. All this “youse can’t handle the truth” guff is deeply unconvincing.
Anybody who did not feel negative about Celtic after the two Legia games is not living in the real world.
Anybody who says we are the worst team in 20/30 or 40 years is just repeating a post that has appeared on CQN every year since MON left. It is just lighthouse thinking- you are only as good as your last game and you are only as bad as your last disaster.

When I was nineteen, four of us were in a pub in Ardrossan awaiting the boat to the Isle of Man for the Fair Fortnight. Some guy in the pub was selling brand new volumes of The Complete Works of Robert Service. Two of us, probably happy drunk and flush with our Holiday money , bought one each for half a crown. A brilliant buy. Burns is a far , better poet but Service is a very enjoyable read. He reminds me greatly of Jack London, the subject of my thesis many years after my purchase of Mr Service.

Of course…you do realise, that I have nothing against you whatsoever.
But…im trolling and abusing you, just like you do to other posters.
Its not nice is it?
However, if you persist, so will I.
HH
tontine Tim…
No I think your wrong there…
If the actual result is less favourable to the OFFENDING club the original result stands.
So, if Celtic had won 4-0 in the 2nd leg the result would have stood since that would have been less favourable to the guilty party!
Hope that makes sense. ;-)

The easiest example for golf was when Woosnam realised he had too many clubs in his bag. I think it was at the masters.
He was leading the competition at that time.
He had a rant at his caddy but I think deep down he knew it was as much his fault.
It didn;t matter that he didn;t use that club. That is not the important part of the matter. He knew the rules and admitted his mistake and took the penalty for it.
He didn’t go begging to the organisers that it was a simple mistake and not in sporting integrity for him not to face a penalty. He didn’t ask for the other players to a shoot on on a hole to see who would win the trophy.
He knew the rules and the laws of the game and accepted his fate raging at possibly his last chance at winning a major golf event.
The Poles are making fools of themselves.

“there was a man upon the stair” has nothing to do with W.T. McGonnagall. It is a wee bit too disciplined and crafted for him. McGonagall was a bad poet, it was not crafted deliberate badness.
The stair poem is Antigonish by WH Mearns
Kojo,
How many times have ye watched Paul McMullan on Celtic TV?
Do ye think he could step straight into the team because we desperately need inspiration from somewhere.

Good to see Gordon Strachan sticking up for Celtic in the Scotsman.
I’ll never understand why so many Celtic fans didn’t take to the wee man, he was in my opinion a wonderful Celtic man

While I kind of agree re Commons, my team was based on the next two games v St Johnstone and Dundee United, Commons is poor against top class opposition because of his lack of pace, against lesser teams he has an eye for a goal and can pick a good pass.
Best highlighted by his goals in the SPFL last season and his goals v Karagandy and thought he played well in both Rekyavik ties.
His best position is just behind the striker and I believe a solid midfield 5 would help him, he doesn’t have to chase all over the park and can use his talent in a more productive and offensive manner.
Kikinthenakas
Tonev looks a wee bit like Johan Cruyff !!
Anyway….should Celtic go on and reach the latter stages of the CL, will they be the first team to do so having been previously knocked out?
Now that would be a record for ya.

I never said it at the time but I was not a fan of Gordon Strachan. I found the football a bit dull too often. He never seems relaxed to me. Considering the positions he has held in football, he seems surprisingly insecure. I feel the same concerning Martin O`Neil.

Well said. Love the wee man to bits. Perversely I think WGS may even be more supportive towards us than even Lenny who in the last few interviews I’ve seen is being far too acquiescent to others than I would like.
To my mind WGS is a 100% Tim, faithful through and through. Good luck to him.
