I’m not convinced that any meeting of minds between Celtic and Legia Warsaw to allow the latter to take the place of the former in the Champions League play-off round would be recognised by Uefa. Having researched as thoroughly as possible, I’ve found no precedent for such an arrangement to be invoked.
It would, therefore, probably be safe for Celtic to take the high moral ground and acquiesce with Legia, but that would be a cheap shot at being generous, Celtic have no intentions of becoming involved, whether they have the opportunity or not.
The utter distress Legia are enduring because of an administrative oversight will cause untold damage. The club have to try everything possible, including an appeal which invokes Willie Maley and Jock Stein, but they must find a clear path through Uefa, which does not appear to exist.
What Celtic can do, is appeal to Uefa to have processes changed, just as we did in 1970 when we profited from the toss of a coin. Instead of clubs having the responsibility of checking available players, they could be issued with the same list the Uefa observer had on Wednesday, making this mistake less likely.
Current processes allow a minor infraction to cause disproportionate harm to a football club, and the tournament itself. Celtic should not hesitate in saying so.
Registration partially tightens tonight on player eligibility for our Champions League play-off round against NK Maribor. After today, clubs can only add one player to their squad for these games.
While it is important to get players in ahead of Maribor, I’m not convinced the arrivals will be able to have a transformational impact. It will largely be those already at Lennoxtown who will exorcise the demons of Murrayfield.
For what it’s worth, Maribor think they are absolute certainties to progress. Planning to analyse them in detail tomorrow; I’m not betting against them.
I was mystified as to how relegated Hearts managed to win away from home in their first game as a lower league club but now I’ve heard Ally McCoist blame the off-field input of Charles Green it all makes sense. How could any footballer reasonably expect to put in a shift with a former director speaking to the media some time earlier?

Celtic can, and should, do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, other than to adhere to the ruling… It would be grossly ‘presumptuous’ of us to even suggest to UEFA that they change their rule(s)… the rules are there for a reason…..to prevent corruption

His new team were joint 3rd favourites for relegation and, currently are just one point better off than occupying that joint 3rd bottom place. If Henke does his managerial record, he could be considered for a bigger post like Celtic.

Not really.
Nobody has argued that we cannot attract players to Celtic. There are around 35 listed in our first team squad and we did not rear them all.
So the “inconsistency” is inherent in the statement and accounted for.
Put simply, we can attract some but not all players to CP as financial restrictions and setting will make us an unattractive proposition, especially to the better players.
We can, of course, do better, but there is a reason why better players turn their nose up at Celtic.
£6m nowadays gets you Jordan Mutch or Brett Assombalonga.

Correct. Celtic have handled this perfectly.
One yardstick of how well an organisation is run is how quickly it can adjust to substantial changes in its environment. Celtic have certainly experienced a substantial change in the environment that it faced after defeat to Legia at Murrayfield….. we now have an opportunity to compete at a higher level and to reap larger revenues. To do this it is generally accepted that we need to recruit new players. Now I know no more than most on here and rely on the rumours and statements from the club that are flying around. If these are true(Tonev, Samaras, Sharp etc..) then it looks like the club is relying on old research in order to respond to our apparent good fortune. Surely the scouting system has identified fresh targets? Where is the input from the manager on prospects from Scandinavia? What about this guy that tops the scoring in the Norwegian league(V. O. Kjartansson from Valerenga)? He is young, prolific and probably would not cost a lot. I am not saying sign this guy but rather these are the kinds of targets we should be throwing up at the moment.
Time is against us in getting new appropriate faces in so doesn’t it make sense to look at what you know and have experience of, given the time constraint? RD knows the Scandinavian market, look there. Similarly, the club must understand the Scottish market,(although RD probably doesn’t) players like Pawlett and/or Armstrong are known quantities to the club and deals should be able to be completed quickly. Yet we hear nothing of such targets being considered. Well perhaps the club is smarter than the media and is pursuing such targets under the radar. I hope so, but I have my doubts.
What the club comes up with today plus the one signing before the first Maribor game will tell us a lot about how well the organisation is being run, both on the field of play, and financially. Given that it is Monday already, this is probably already been determined.
