Celtic, the Bank of England of investment opportunities

595

Celtic are an astonishing 1/200 to win the Premiership this season; 11 games into a 38 game competition. 1/200 isn’t betting odds, it’s a borrowing strategy. The bookies are borrowing money at 0.5% for six months, an annual rate of 1%. Try borrowing at better rates than that.

Investors get a 1% tax free savings rate, which is also competitive, although they don’t get access to their money for six months without significant penalty. If borrowing rates were higher, returns offered on Celtic would improve to attract more investors. The Scottish Premiership has jumped from being a sporting event to being an investment opportunity less volatile than gold or property.

The 10 point gap between Celtic and second placed Aberdeen is the same 10 points as between Aberdeen and bottom club Ross County. We are metaphorically in a different league than even our closest challengers.

Question is, how did Celtic become the Bank of England of football? It’s not just because they are financially responsible with appropriate oversights, this helps. More importantly, they have used their financial strength to fortify the competitive product on the park. Others have been in similar situations in previous decades without the oversight, which led to enormously entertaining failure.

It might look like Brendan Rodgers has achieved alchemy over a sleeping dinosaur, but he’s only part of the story, albeit an important part. Much of the groundwork was in place when he arrived. Nine of those who started the League Cup semi-final were at the club last season, they were just not nearly as effective.

Brendan’s building on rock solid foundations. That’s what you need to build generations of domination.

So Donald Trump is now speaking as president Elect; conciliatory towards Clinton. He will seek common ground with all other peoples and countries.

The Democrats got it wrong when they selected Clinton over Bernie Sanders.

Trump is a nutter, no doubt about that. However the corruption and warmongering seethes from Clinton and she thought she was untouchable. As with GG, her stance on late abortions was anathema to me and, I suspect, many American Catholics. That could’ve easily been the issue that swung it for Trump.

Now, it is what I is and we need to wait and see what the impact will be. As was pointed out yesterday, if they are the best 2 candidates from 300,000,000 Americans then it’s a sad indictment of the country!

Has the world been given the lesser of 2 evils? Possibly it has but the worst of it is that it will affect all of us, not just the Americans!

    Sad morning.

Feel like crying for my children and your children.

    Oh dear!!

Big Jimmy at 7:50 – I, too, can remember the sense of foreboding when Thatcher was elected- not to office, but as leader of the tories. That was the day I embraced the silver bullet theory; i.e. Everyone is entitled to use one single silver bullet with impunity to get rid of whoever one chooses. Mine was destined for Thatcher. ( My best friend wanted to get rid of his then girlfriend which somewhat discredited my theory, but hey-ho there you go).

    Keep safe everybody.

  5. Anyway,…..we don’t care what the re-writers of the Jungle Book say, what the hell do we care…..

FACT is – Cellic supporters are still on the ootside – looking in.

Bring back THE DONALD and let the carnival begin.

    Sill laughin :) :) :)

  6. America just got its pussy grabbed.

Congrats to the voters in the world’s greatest gerontocracy.

Trump’s Brexit strategy is completed- say enough hateful things to stir up resentment against the other and, once the election is won, draw back from all of it.

Hilary will not be put in jail. There will be no Mexican funded wall (well, maybe, a symbolic build of another short stretch for appearance’s sake) and there will be a scaling down of the mass deportation rhetoric.

What we’ll get is a combination of the Calvin Coolidge/ Ulysses Grant administrations- venal, corrupt and sending federal finance to aid their friends.

Donald Trump is not a stupid man but all his “smarts” are directed towards enriching himself. He has never made a business partner rich nor has he struck deals which served the interests of both sides. But no matter how much money he made or lost, it was always his money that was made and other people’s money that got lost.

The US, now that this part of your anatomy has been grabbed, prepare yourself for the inevitable stage two.

  7. Will the world be a safer place with Trump in power instead of Clinton? Who knows as we will never truly know the answer to that one?

John Pilger was fairly sure earlier this year who was the lesser of two evils. Have we been saved from Satan in a dress or have the Americans voted in Satan with a bad hairdo? Watch this space but may the Lord have mercy on all of us. The following is a bit of a long read.

  11. Shocked and surprised the Trump has won, for all is what against him, he at least doesn’t want war.

The globalists and the bankers won’t be happy, thank feck for that.

  12. The loony religious right taking over the west? Certainly looks like it, good to know that those who voted based upon the teachings of their god got what they wanted, a racist devoid of moral fibre. Good luck with that.

The democrats blew it when they chose HRC, they have controlled the media from the get go and still lost, the American people saw through her lies etc, they should have picked Bernie and got behind him like they did HRC the Trump wouldn’t have had a look in.

Hypothetical question of course. I’m not endorsing Trump just to be clear. Having said that, i don’t think they have the money of appetite for conflict abroad. Civil war is more likely, especially given they can keep their guns.

  19. The Americans had to vote for one or the other. We, on the other hand, can have both so, is it to be Moussa and the Griff up front in the SPL or doo we stick with the favoured one up front?

  20. Maybe PeteC was correct,

I know my first words (thoughts) were… “Mary mother of God protect us” and I wasn’t being a drama queen in a mirror either. I am nobody above a bag of bones and some thoughts but right now I think we are living in desperate and dangerous times.

    Sure.

    No problem .

Donald Trump`s policies are closer to you than those of Hillary the hypocrite.

Trump was supported by the disenfranchised blue collars of the fly over states.

    In droves.

You would think that the snob socialists of C.Q.N. would have the wit to understand , if not support , that cohort.

    But no .

    Brexit revisited.

The voters from the Labour heartland of the North of England actually thought for themselves .

Much to the dismay of those who expected them to ” toe the party line “.

    Bloody marvellous.

Throughout the campaign Trump has gone out of his way to alienate African Americans, Hispanic Americans and women but still millions of them vote for him.

Not being very well informed on American politics I couldn’t say which of the two choices was the least bad but his election is, to me anyway, surprising.
