  1. No PLC = £49 Old Firm....deceased √ on

Is it this week that Sevco shut doon ?

Is it this week that Gerrard walks away ?

Is it this week that hmrc take the ibrox stadium off them ?

Is it next week that Brendan walks away ?

    Hmmmm ?

Who are the real gullibillies ?

    Hmmmm ?

  2. Guys just back in from game.

They are no great team, we have created the situation we are in.

We can still win this tie.

Poor tonight, but we can play a lot better.

    2-1 the hoops next week

    D. :)

  3. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Tough watch tonight.

Definitely still in the tie but will probably need to score twice next week to go through.

Love BR but needs to take some responsibility.

No other home team in world football goes narrow against 10 men. Why did we?

    Hail hail

  4. Scott Sinclair seems to have either lost a step or his confidence.

    Maybe both.

Tom was very subdued and deserved to be subbed.

Eddie was well handled by an enveloping defence

His youthful inexperience was on show.

Do we start with Leigh against Hearts?

Apart from one shot and their goal, Craig wasn’t overworked tonight.

We came up against a well drilled side, the likes of which we won’t see in Scotland.

So the BBC report seems a wee bit hysterical.

But the events of the evening provided a worrying metaphor for a club where, after years of solid domination and progress, hairline cracks are beginning to appear

  5. it’s ok we’ll have a blog tomorrow on how Sevco Scotland Ltd are going bust.

Brendan has won back to back trebles and has gave the board a list of players to strengthen and so far we haven’t got 1.

3 bids well below Hibs valuation and eventually Villa come in and he’s off.

Remind me how much we’ve made in the CL in the last few years and we’re still fu**ing about with low bids. £7 million for Armstrong and we paid £9 million for Edouard, so basically £2 million we paid for Edouard.

Brendan Rodgers back to back trebles and we’re still messing this guy about.

Not good enough, no it’s fu**ing disgusting.

Brendan just tell the board you wanted to take this club as far as you could but you failed me I didn’t fail Celtic Football Club. The End.

At least wait until the tie is decided.

    HH. ?

  7. Look on the bright side, if we get out knocked out next week then we can focus on wrapping up the league by Christmas. Dembele and Boyata’s fees will cover the shortfall and the shareholders will all be happy. BR will ask for some quality signings and we’ll snap up the young lad that is on fire at Ayr United.

All will be fine. Phil says the rangers are going bust, what else matters?

Still on the bus to Dalmuir Was disappointed 2nd half tonight. First half thought we were great. Play like that in the heat of Athens and we have a chance on our first half show.

    YNWA

  9. Not yet in from the game so haven’t read back. I would guess disappointment would be an understatement.

However. I didn’t see anything that would make me think we can’t win this tie.

We had an off night. One of THOSE games. Bad decision by Ajer who was immense until that point and never recovered his composure. Poor from Eddie. A rarity in itself.

Homegrown talent to the fore. Tierney, Forrest and McGregor. And Brown of course was supreme.

Wish Dembele would have been fit. Thought Griff was lively (again) when he came on.

It’s only half time. And we have the away advantage in the second leg. Assuming we score at least one of course. Can see it going to extra time. Then a killer goal during that period.

  10. Just back from CP. Great performance, poor result. Other than 5 minutes either side of half time we dominanted. They were as expected, defensively very organised but toothless up front (saw them in San Siro last season and they played exactly the same way). Individual errors, I counted three, cost us the goal. Substitutes didn’t work and we were less effective, Griffiths was poor, doesn’t look fit and was everywhere except where you want him to be, in the box. Sinclair has totally lost whatever it was he had. Ntcham, Brown, McGregor, Forrest and Tierney were our best.

They will play the same way next week, they only lost 2 goals in the last 12 games of last season and drew 8 out of 12 EL games. They’ll settle for 0-0 so we need to score first. Will be interesting to see if Boyata or Simunovic replaces Ajer, BR in post match interview said Boyata won’t be leaving tomorrow.

You forgot about the Virgil windfall. To date in this window we have spent £0 and actually banked a few million. And lets not forget no one actually believes we actually paid £9 mill up front for Eddy. So all in all the biscuit tin is bursting.

BR in post match interview said Boyata won’t be leaving tomorrow.

Not going to the EPL then. Spanish and Italian windows are still open though.

Having said that , hope he stays.

  14. We need to fit Rogic into different formations, against 10 men ffs, we sub him after an hour, they must have been delighted…a guy who can drop and run with the ball and opens up space, poor for me

  15. The only reason that Brendan Rodgers is boss at Celtic Park, is because the man himself is a Tim.

Lenny is a Tim as well.

Constantly undermined by the PLC board, Lenny was.

Brendan Rodgers isn’t going to tolerate the same.

We’ve also signed up for our record breaking sponsorship deal and have sold out season tickets back in June (have Sevco even managed to sell out theirs?).

The commitment shown by our fans and manager is in no way matched by those running our club and they are undeserving of both.

  18. Disappointing night in Paradise despite great backing from a near full house Celtic lacked a cutting edge for the wise old Greek side that knew every trick in the Europa ‘how to waste a game’ manual.

We sprang on them, and threatened in the first half that could have brought a two goal lead, and it was Callum MacGregor mainly assisted by Tierney, that looked like scoring, but how badly we miss Dembele might go unnoticed in the SPL, but not in Europe.

AEK pinged it forward the whole night after mopping up Celtic’s to me, to you to me, to you routine, that could have played on after News at 10 and wouldn’t have troubled the Oscar winning keeper who was the epitomy ‘no sweat ‘ even in the 5 mins added on.

Two £5M CB’s signings might or might have prevented Kriss Ajer and Jack Hendry being put through a wringer everytime the AEK broke forward and threatened to seal the tie , but that investment wouldn’t have prevented Mikael Lustig’s double defensive blundering that allowed AEK to level, at least twice he should have hit row Z but allowed a cross that AJer watched as if frozen by the new lights.

With Hendry and AJer on toast the whole match was frought, the crowd were subdued and nearly dizzy watching sideways stuff, probing passes were rarely apparent other than from ever classy Ntcham. James Forrest’s mazy high speed runs and confidence dwindled with defenders who hid behind one another, the second guy ready to chop or stop at any cost

The substitutes faired no better Griffiths looking for scraps that seem only to fall on his right he needs game, less bench time, and he’s pencilled in for Hearts? Poor Scott Sinclair coming on to try and run the full back, once out of five, is so last year, its too late.

    M.O.M Olivier Ntcham

  19. Thought we started very well with a high tempo, the trio of KT, McGregor and Ntcham caused them a lot of problems down the left. The goal was deserved and it was fine finish. A few slack passes midway through the first half and we seemed to lose our rhythm. Haven’t seen their goal again but it looked like a calamity. Lustig was 10 yards deeper than the rest of the defenders, issued he was accommodating for his lack of pace but would need to see it again to see if he made the correct decision to go with the runner or hold the line, regardless he should have done more to stop the cross. From there i don’t know what happened. Edouard and Rogic had struggled to get going and Ajer had an uncharacteristically poor evening.

As the second half began it was clear we were a bit rattled, so the sending off was like a gift from God, especially as we anticipated their fitness levels to drop towards the end anyway. However the goal did not arrive and in truth it never looked likely. It was like watching so many games from last season when we could not get through a packed penalty box, passing from side to side and reluctant to put a proper cross into the box. Similarly the set pieces were a complete waste of time, as usual. There is a glaring inefficiency in our methods and should this continue we will struggle to score goals this season again.

Regards the tie overall, we are right up against it now, i would estimate our chances of progressing at less than 10% given the conditions over there and our away record. All things considered they were a solid, well organised outfit and they don’t need to attack at home. They conceded very few goals in the League last season and it’s easy to see why. Had the shoe been on the other foot we would never have survived 40 minutes away from home with 10 men. Ultimately this is where the tie is likely to have been lost.

    MotM – Ntcham

  20. Should we occasionally let Scott Sinclair play on the right? He’d be hitting the byline all the time if he was out there. Just a thought.

I’m not happy with our transfer business but the nonsense on here this evening, after a draw with a Greek team, is worse than I’ve ever seen. Some of you need to get a grip.

  21. glendalystonsils on

We tried to get deals done but couldn’t quite get them over the line.

Now where have I heard that before?

    Fool me once…..shame on you.

    Fool me twice….shame on me.

  22. Blimey. Had a quick read back and can’t believe there are quite a few who share my opinion that the result was poorer than the display tonight.

Not sure what the point is if those who continually deride the non-signings/ board.

I say it every season. We only need to build a team to win the League. Anything we do in Europe is a bonus for me.

What I don’t want is to pay out stupid money for players that won’t make a blind bit of difference to our “chances” in Europe. Sure they may increase the chances of qualifying for CL Group stages. But no guarantees.

And on the back of qualifying, what then? We bring in more money, pay the players more wages and charge the fans mor for season tickets. No thanks. Live within our means and keep the prices within the realms of “ordinary” supporters.

Oh. And give us more Tom Rogic. Lewis Morgan. James Forrest. Calum McGregor. KIERAN TIERNEY.

  23. DD bang on.

I thought we were too narrow, Jamsie was standing 10 yards in from shy line and when he recieved the ball he was running inside and passing to Scott Brown.

Jamsie should have been standing beside the linesman right on shy one giving total width and stretching them.

I feel we can do it

  24. SS substitution changed the game.

Our best attacking player was pulled back to the half way line.

  25. Even after years of practice we’ve still not mastered the art of breaking down a packed narrow defence.

hopefully we’ll not have another season of it, we shouldn’t have with the attacking talent in the squad

    @ SUPERSUTTON on 8TH AUGUST 2018 10:53 PM

European football is the reason we are dominant in the league. Without it, we may not be. Why sign Edouard if we are only aiming to win the league? I’m sure we can do it without him. Why get Brendan in? I’m sure as hell that he doesn’t only want to win the league. I’m sure his ambitions are greater than that.

It’s ridiculous to impose a limit on our own ambitions.

  27. !!BADA BING!! on 8TH AUGUST 2018 10:51 PM

I can see Sinclair getting sold tomorrow…

Would probably be best for everyone. We’re not exactly short of players to play wide left and we rarely play with wingers anymore (wingers at wing back which he doesn’t have defensive discipline to do)

  28. The standard of our crosses was shocking…one after another went nowhere…at this level we need to give forwards a chance to attack the ball..

  29. !!BADA BING!! on 8TH AUGUST 2018 10:51 PM

I can see Sinclair getting sold tomorrow…

Unlikely, there aren’t likely to be many suitors.

  30. Go tell the Spartim on

I know it’s stating the obvious but we’re nowhere near equipped defensively to be playing anyone half decent in Europe

Plc champions league gamble looks like it’s unravelled meaning player sales which only makes us weaker so can any of the accountants are us convince us what a great strategy we have?

  31. Delaneys Dunky on

Thought I was watching at home to Kilmarnock fae last season. Similar type of game, same score. It is as though our players huvnae learnt how to score against a 9 man defence.

  32. BATEEN BHOY on 8TH AUGUST 2018 9:49 PM

Disappointing result after a very dominant first half. One defensive error cost us a win tonight, coupled with a lacklustre performance from the front men. Failed to capitalise on an extra man advantage from 60 minutes onwards. Broonie strolled through the game, in control, and Ntcham was composed in every thing he did. Odsonne looked a bit off the pace. mcGregor had a great first half, but faded after being moved to right after Rogic substitution.

Next week will be very difficult now. Obviously, have to score at least one, but we might have more clear chances if we have the chance to hit them on the break.

    KT MOTM. Never in doubt.

    ————

    ??

    What the big mhan says….

    But ON was MOTM

    Ref was excellent.

Big fan of lustig and ajer. But the former’s diminishing pace and the latter’s inexperience May just have cost us £20M

The new multi£M lights are too dazzling. Our defence isn’t!

Their (apparently!) big fat striker ended up giving our centre backs a torrid time.

Defending isn’t a doddle. But it’s also not rocket science as AEK demonstrated.

    I reckon 40% chance. Not 10%

Finally, isn’t it amazing how much a goal changes a match.
